In Development: Special Operations Mission “Famine”

Commanders!

In today’s article, we’d like to tell you more about the next Special Operation called “Famine”, which takes place on a heavily modified River Point map, changed to match the apocalyptic theme of the season.

The name of the mission comes from the main characters’ attempt to secure a food supply chain for their settlement but, as always, things won’t go as planned. The rest we’ll leave for you to discover, for now, let us focus on the map overhaul and the new mechanics available in this mission.

As you can see from the attached screenshots, we’ve modified the River Point map extensively and effectively turned it into a desert. Some of the major landmarks are still there, but we’ve put a lot of work into making the central area look like a post-apocalyptic raider settlement.

Other, smaller enemy bases litter the map, which brings us to the two main themes and mechanics of the Special Operation. The first is that you’ll be asked to operate a lot on your own. To complete the mission successfully, the best tactic will be to split the team into two groups, each going after its own objectives. That guarantees you’ll be able to complete everything on time – providing you don’t die in the process.

Secondly, the AI enemies will have a new vehicle at their disposal – car bombs. These do pretty much exactly what their name suggests; they drive to you and explode. Taking them out before they reach you will therefore be an absolute priority and you’ll have to pay a lot of attention to your surroundings. As is customary for the Special Operations mode, the mission will be accessible by completing the previous two missions.

We are, of course, hard at work on the final mission of the series as well as on not one, not three, but five new standard PvE missions that will appear in Update 0.36 (albeit not right away at launch). For now, we hope that you will enjoy this one mission and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Between June 3 and June 10, 2021, the following items will be available:
CATTB
The CATTB Main Battle Tank was an experimental platform, developed as one of the early steps in the creation of a next generation Abrams Main Battle Tank, also referred to as the Block III Abrams, or M1A3. It was created in the 1980s as a response to the perceived threat of future Soviet super tanks and featured some truly advanced components, such as the XM291 dual caliber cannon that could switch between 120mm and 140mm calibers. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the development of this tank became unnecessary and the program was canceled in the 1990s. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the CATTB is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank and one of the most powerful and versatile MBTs around, devastating its opponents with its signature double-tap feature, allowing it to fire its cannon twice in short order. This allows it to drive around a corner, deal very high amounts of damage and then retreat back into cover, leaving the enemy reeling from the massive blow.

This vehicle is available via Loot Crates, which drop CATTB parts. Collect 100 CATTB parts from these Loot Crates to assemble the whole vehicle.
Panzer 87-140
The Panzer 87-140 is an experimental version of Panzer 87 (Swiss Leopard 2A4), fitted with a RUAG 140mm smoothbore cannon and an armor kit called WE. It was developed in the 1980s and early 1990s to counter the next generation of Soviet MBTs, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project was shelved, only to resurface around 2005-2006 but never passing the experimental stage. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Panzer 87-140 is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. Much like other Leopard series MBTs, it’s a long-range fighter with an extremely powerful gun and the ability to fire with pinpoint accuracy. Even though its armor leaves much to be desired, at long range, this MBT has few equals and can be considered one of the best snipers of its class.

The Panzer 87-140 Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Swiss Digital Camouflage
This is a Swiss digital camouflage that will go very well with your Panzer 87-140 MBT, but also a standard Leopard 2, also used by the Swiss military.

The camouflage is available in a bundle, containing:
 • Swiss digital camouflage
 • 14 days of Premium Time
 • 2.000 Gold

This camouflage can be installed on any vehicle that has the camouflage customization feature available, and can be used in all three environments.
Leopard 2 Revolution
The Leopard 2 Revolution is a continuation of the older Evolution upgrade, intended to improve the performance of the older variants of the Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank in order to make it excel even on the battlefields of the 21st century. The improvements include a comprehensive armor upgrade, ROSY soft-kill APS and smoke grenade launchers as well as an entire suite of cutting edge electronics. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Leopard 2 Revolution is a Tier 8 Main Battle Tank. It is not only well-armored, it also features an extremely accurate 120mm gun with advanced ammunition, allowing it to destroy its opponents at very long ranges, rivaling those of Tank Destroyers. The German tanks in general perform best at longer ranges and the Revolution is no exception.
Marder 2
The Marder 2 was an experimental German IFV, developed in the late 1980s to replace the aging Marder IFV. It featured more armor, a new turret and a brand-new Rheinmetall dual-caliber autocannon that could fire both 35mm and 50mm rounds. Despite its qualities, the vehicle was never accepted in service due to its high cost and because it was no longer needed because of the fall of the Soviet Union. A single surviving prototype can be found today in the Koblenz military collection. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Marder 2 is a Tier 8 Armored Fighting Vehicle. With its 44 tons, it’s one of the heaviest and toughest AFVs around. Unlike many other AFVs of its Tier, it is not armed with guided missiles, relying instead on its extremely powerful 50mm autocannon. This vehicle can also deploy Mechanized Infantry.
WWO Wilk
The WWO Wilk is the second Polish vehicle of Armored Warfare named after the ferocious pack animal. It is a fire support variant of the Rosomak, replacing the original IFV turret with the Cockerill CT-CV one, armed with a 105mm gun. A prototype of this vehicle was built and tested in 2012. After passing the tests, it was offered to the Polish Armed Forces but failed to catch its attention despite the excellent trial results. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the WWO Wilk is a Tier 8 Tank Destroyer. A lower tier counterpart to the existing progression vehicle Wilk XC8, its mobility is comparable to other vehicles using the Rosomak platform, while its 105mm gun firepower allows it to compete with such vehicles as the American Stryker.
ASCOD LT-105
If there was a word best describing the ASCOD platform, it would be the word “international”. It was developed by the Austrians and the Spanish, adopted by the British and available with a wide range of turrets. The joint project from 1988 eventually led to a number of vehicles using the ASCOD platform, the two best-known results of which are the Austrian Ulan IFV and the Spanish Pizarro IFV. The ASCOD LT-105 was a fire support variant of the platform, offered with pretty much any turret a customer would like, including those from B1 Centauro, M1128 MGS or even a South-African one by Denel. However, after two decades of not having to found any customers, the project was terminated and by 2015-2016, it was removed from all official offers. You can learn more about it in a dedicated article.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In Armored Warfare, the ASCOD LT-105 is a Tier 8 Premium Light Tank. It is fairly unique in one aspect. It is possible to select one of the two turrets: the manned Denel turret with the GT7 gun or the Low-Profile Turret by General Dynamics with the M68 gun, known from the M1128. The first turret has better kinetic shells but fires in a normal manner, while the latter has a clip-style autoloader, balanced by worse overall characteristics of the gun.

In Development: CV90 Mk.IV

Commanders!

The second vehicle prize of the Northern Wind Battle Path will be the CV90 Mk.IV Tier 8 Premium Armored Vehicle and today, we’d like to tell you more about this extraordinary piece of military equipment.

The CV90 platform has an interesting and long history, described in our previous articles (Part 1, Part 2). To sum things up, the original CV90 (the CV9040 variant, or rather Strf 90) entered service in 1991 and was gradually modernized from the A model to the C model over the next decade or so. With the vehicle gaining popularity and foreign customers, several upgraded platform variants emerged over the years:
 • The original Swedish service model was referred to as Mk.0
 • The Mk.I platform from 1994, used by Norway incorporated some of the Swedish upgrades, including upgraded protection and its engine tuned to 608hp
 • The Mk.II platform variant from 1998 with a more powerful 680hp engine, a better vehicle control system and an advanced suite of electronics
 • The Mk.III platform variant from 2006 with another engine and protection improvement as well as an electronics upgrade

The Mk.III version is the latest version currently in active service, but a brand-new variant called CV90 Mk.IV The Mk.IV variant was unveiled in 2018 and was developed for export, specifically for the Czech Republic contract to replace the aging BVP-2 IFVs, in which it is competing against the Lynx and ASCOD platforms. Compared to the earlier iterations, the Mk.IV variant features a more powerful 1000hp diesel engine by Scania, a new suspension and boasts two ton higher carrying capacity than its predecessor. Included is a next-generation electronics architecture that allows the vehicle to stream BMS data in real time.

The CV90 Mk.IV can carry multiple turrets with two being offered for the Czech contract – a standard manned turret and an unmanned MCT-30 turret by Konsberg. The Armored Warfare variant combines the manned turret with an advanced 50mm Bushmaster autocannon for maximum firepower. With the Czech contract still undecided and delays expected due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Mk.IV currently remains a prototype only with 1 or 2 vehicles built and shown across various military expos.

In Armored Warfare, the CV90 Mk.IV will be a Tier 8 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle. But before we tell you more about it, please note:

The numbers below are very preliminary as the vehicle has not been properly tested. They are sure to change and should only be discussed as an indicator of how we’d like to set the vehicle up.

With that being said:

The CV90 Mk.IV will be a classic heavy-duty Infantry Fighting Vehicle with decent mobility and survivability, but also excellent firepower. If you are familiar with the Marder 2 IFV, you’ll feel here right at home.

Protection-wise, the CV90 Mk.IV won’t offer all that much except for some basic frontal protection against autocannons. On the other hand, it will have a decent health pool of 2250 hitpoints (with the Kevlar Spall Liner module installed) as well as the option to unlock the Iron Fist hard-kill APS and Experimental Smoke Grenades via additional progression (by completing extra Battle Path missions and challenges).

Its mobility will also be fairly decent with the maximum speed being 70 km/h, the reverse maximum speed being 40 km/h. It will take 3.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 32 km/h thanks to its powerful engine (1000hp Scania DS16 diesel), although the CV90 Mk.IV won’t be exactly nimble due to its 36 tons of weight. Its mobility will allow it to perform some basic scouting, but it’s not what it will excel in.

The truly strong side of this vehicle will be its firepower. On one hand, we have the 50mm version of a Bushmaster autocannon, capable of sustained fire (that is, no clip reloading is needed, just like on the Marder). The gun will fire AP shots only (that’s right, no PELE) with 240mm of penetration and 65 points of damage per shot. The rate of fire will be some 250 rounds per minute, translating into some 14250 points of damage per minute. That is, of course, only a theoretical number – in reality, plenty of vehicles will be sufficiently armored from the front to withstand. HE shells will also be available.

And that’s where the ATGM launcher comes in. The CV90 Mk.IV manned turret carries a double Spike-LR missile launcher (1100mm of penetration, 2 seconds between launches followed by 20 seconds of reloading time). Additionally, you’ll be able to choose from one of two additional progression modules affecting this launcher, allowing you to:
 • Fire both missiles at once (with the launcher reload time being 17 percent longer)
 • Fire missiles one at a time, but 15 percent faster after one another (with the launcher reload time being 10 percent shorter)

The point is, you’ll have the choice between the hit-and-run tactics (by releasing both missiles at once and retreating for a longer reload period), or a more sustained damage model where you keep the target in your sights, cycling weapons in a smart way to maximize your damage output over time.

And, last but not least, the camouflage and viewrange values will also be fairly decent (31 percent, 450 meters) and, on top of that, the vehicle will be equipped with the Recon Package module, increasing your viewrange by 30 meters when standing still. The CV90 Mk.IV will naturally also be able to carry Mechanized Infantry.

All things considered, the CV90 Mk.IV will be fairly versatile. The ideal role for it will be second line fire support. Deploy your infantry, hide behind an obstacle, a bush, or even your team mates, and let loose. Combining both weapon systems will yield the best results, unless you are playing PvE against lower Tier vehicles of course. Still, can’t hurt to release a missile or two once in a while. The bottom line is, this vehicle will be fairly new-player-friendly and is designed to be enjoyed by the widest audience possible.

We hope that you will enjoy it and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
