Khrizantema Damage Contest

Commanders!

The Echoes of War campaign is now available and we have prepared another way of obtaining a large number of bonus Battle Coins for you!

In this contest, we’ll be asking you to deal as much damage as possible while driving the 9P157-2 Khrizantema-S (only damage from over 300m counts).

You can compete in two categories, separated by mode:
 • PvP (Random Battles or Global Operations)
 • PvE (excluding Heroic Special Operations, War Games)

Post the screenshot of your result (both the detailed and regular tab) in the dedicated contest channel along with your name, category and result number. We also reserve the right to ask for a replay, so make sure you record your battle. The submission template is as such:
 • Category / Result / Ingame nickname
Attention – as we will be using a program to collect your results, please make absolutely sure you submit them with the template above. Submissions without this template will be ignored.

As an example, “PvP / 50000 / Johndoe” is correct, while “PvP/50 000/Johndoe” is not due to the incorrectly placed spaces.

The contest ends on February 14, 2021 (15:00 CET) and all entries must be submitted by then.

The prizes are as follows:

The winners of both categories will receive 10.000 Battle Coins for the Echoes of War Battle Path, 2.500 Gold as well as the rare Torii camouflage.

Please note:
 • One player can only submit one result, period
 • All submitted results must be from the battles that take place during the event
 • Platoons are not allowed
 • The winners will be announced and the prizes will be distributed after the end of the event
Good luck and see you on the battlefield!

Historical Camouflages – Soviet Forest

Commanders!

Today, we’re going to take a look at another historical camouflage that will be available for free this month. We’re going to be referring to it as Soviet forest camouflage.

The camouflage in the game is based on a photo of T-80BV tanks of the “Western Group of Forces” (the Soviet troops stationed in East Germany) leaving the country. The photo was taken at the Berlin-Adlershof cargo railway station in 1994 and the vehicles likely belonged to the 6th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade (specifically the 65th Separate Tank Battalion) stationed in Berlin. At that point, the Soviet Union was no more and the tanks bore Russian markings.

As for the camouflage itself, it is a real-life pattern for forest environments, consisting of green, brown and blue-gray stripes. The actual camouflage scheme goes back to the late 1977 official camouflage manual, which described the exact shades of colors as well as the strip shapes. The camouflage in question is based on the 1988 revised pattern. It’s worth noting that the same forest camouflage existed in two more variants, one replacing the blue-grey color with light green and the other replacing it with a light yellow color.

Regardless, the camouflage wasn’t used very much until the late 1980s when the need to hide tanks from night vision devices became urgent. The colors were, amongst other things, specifically tuned to reduce the color contrast on the IR devices used by the NATO vehicle and thus obscuring the vehicle better at night.

Even so, it is relatively rare and the abovementioned photo is by far the best known example of it. It seems that aside from previously painted vehicles, this pattern was discontinued in the early 1990s along with the production of T-72B. This type of camouflage wasn’t typically added in the field by the crews, but in specialized repair shops. That is why the silhouette-breaking lines look so crisp, just like the manual dictated.

As the abovementioned text suggests, the camouflage is best suited for various Russian MBTs. It will go great with the T-80 series (including the T-80B), or the T-72A and T-72B. With it installed, your vehicles will look like they came straight from the final years of the Soviet Union. The BMP-1 and BMP-2 IFVs will also look great in this camouflage – these vehicles could be seen bearing it during the 1994 military parade in Wünsdorf, Germany, as the final Soviet troops departed the country.

This camouflage will be usable on all vehicles and for all environments and will be available for free. We do hope you’ll enjoy it and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Developer Q&A: February 5, 2021

Commanders!

During the last couple of weeks, you've asked a lot of questions and today, we'd like to answer as many of them as we can.

Here are the responses directly from the developers of Armored Warfare:

Will Tier 1 to Tier 7 vehicles get rebalanced the way Tiers 8 to 10 were?

Yes. But, unfortunately, we don't have a deadline for that.

Will some parts of older vehicles become animated where appropriate? For example, various case ejection ports, side skirts and so on.

Generally speaking, yes. These animations are now always present on new vehicles. On the older ones, we implement them as a part of ongoing model overhaul program.

Will you buff AFVs across the board?

No. They are already fulfilling their battlefield role.

Will you add more night-fighting maps or options (such as a thermal imager mode)?

No, at least not for the foreseeable future.

Will you improve the decal system by allowing decals to be resized or repositioned from their fixed places?

We are currently investigating this topic. For now, we have no definitive answer.

Will you buff machinegun elevation and depression angles?

Most machineguns in the game are coaxial. Their elevation and depression should therefore match that of the main gun, which is sufficient. In some rare cases where no such coaxial machineguns are present (mostly on various SPGs), we are setting these angles independently.

Will the spotting system be fixed?

As far as we know, it is currently working correctly. If you have evidence to the contrary, please submit it via the usual channels (dedicated Discord bug and feedback channel, for example).

Will the reverse steering be finally fixed?

We are aware that the system could use some more improvements but for the most part, it's working correctly. Any improvements to it would require major overhauls of certain mechanics at the expense of other planned features. That would not benefit the majority of players.

Will the old PMC base system ever return to the game?

No.

Are you planning some major new vehicle visual customization options (such as adding camo nets to all vehicles)?

Not for the foreseeable future.

What about the Battalions? Are there any plans specifically for them?

So far, we have no specific plans to do that. It's quite possible that some improvements to various Battalion mechanics will appear in the future, but, generally speaking, the whole Battalion system is currently working as intended and requires no urgent fixes. One thing we are looking into, however, is the ability to add your own Battalion logos. Obviously, there are some serious pitfalls to the system – we have no intention of allowing players to run around with swastikas or some lewd images on their tanks. So, for now, we can offer no promises other than that we're looking into it. Likewise, we currently have no plans for more Battalion-exclusive vehicles or Heroic maps, as these quite expensive to produce while benefiting only a small percentage of players. Right now, we want to focus on content for everyone.

Some of us don't like the Grassy Fields (Pleternica) map in high-Tier PvP. The open nature of this map leads to an excessive amount of draws, as nobody can cross the open fields without being shot to pieces. Will you remove this map from PvP?

We won't remove it, but we reduced its chance to appear on top Tiers. The map itself is valuable in the sense that it provides more gameplay diversity and less repetitiveness on higher Tiers.

Will you add a Contract Mission status window directly to battles?

Sadly, we cannot. The contract objective completion calculations only take place when the battle is finished.

Can you add a voice warning that you are running out of ammunition of a certain type?

We'll look into it.

In real life, the Armata platform (T-14, T-15) does have ERA elements on its sides. In the game, it does not. Will you add them?

We'll look into that as well.

Please explain the HEAT-MP shell purpose. To us, it's very toxic, because it allows you to deal damage even upon non-penetration. The ATGMs do this too, but they do have a lot of disadvantages the HEAT-MP shells do not, such as being exposed to enemy fire, or being fired by vehicles with light armor.

The HEAT-MP shells are intended to be sort of warning shots. They don't deal massive damage upon non-penetration, but they do force camping MBT players to move, because otherwise their hitpoints would get chipped away with every shot. And it's working. We are currently considering reducing the HEAT-MP non-penetration damage to make this shell type not as obviously superior to the standard HEAT rounds as it is, but we won't remove it altogether.

Are you planning to return alternative weapon systems to VBL or Wiesel? Will MBT-70 get its 20mm autocannon?

Not at the moment, for any of these questions. But we'll consider it.

Will you add more maps to the Global Operations mode?

Not for the foreseeable future. Map-wise, we are currently focusing on new Special Operations, new standard PvE missions and new PvP maps, roughly in this order (since PvP got a new map fairly recently).

We feel that soft-kill APS does not work against AI opponents. Is that intended?

No, that's not intended. If it's so, please submit a bug report.

The Type 99A2 Tier 10 progression MBT is too weak – it has a really thin upper front plate, thin sides, offers poor gun depression and no real niche for its playstyle. Can you improve its performance?

We know that it's not great and we are planning to overhaul it in the future. For now, we can't promise any deadlines, it's not like the vehicle is critically broken so that it requires an immediate intervention. Additionally, some of the abovementioned arguments aren't entirely valid. The upper frontal plate is protected by modern ERA, which was overhauled recently. The sides (although only the frontal portion of them) are amongst the thickest on Tier 10 MBTs and we will actually make that thicker area larger. As for the gun depression, that aspect is dictated by the vehicle's geometry – we can't improve it without the gun clipping into the hull.

What about the CATTB? It's poorly armored and has a long reload time to boot.

The sides will receive a buff. The frontal armor of this vehicle is average – as intended, so we won't be improving that. The reload time will not be improved either.

The BMPT series does not have sufficient autocannon ammunition. Any plans to improve it?

Yes. We'll improve the entire BMPT series ammo count to match that of the T-15. In other words, these vehicles will have 1200 autocannon rounds instead of 900.

Can you give us a list of vehicles that can go in reverse as fast as going forward?

AMX-10 RCR, Begleitpanzer 57, CATTB, FV101 Scorpion 90, FV101 Scorpion Kastet, FV101 Scorpion, FV107 Scimitar, FV438 Swingfire, Object 490, Rooikat 76, RST-V Shadow, Sabre, Taifun and Type 10.

Can you tell us what the intended use for Russian MBT gun-launched ATGMs is?

They can help in situations where you need to fire at targets below your maximum depression angles. They also are the only rounds available to Russian MBTs, which are also capable of dealing damage upon non-penetration (unless of course you are also carrying some HE shells).

Some top-down ATGMs deal full damage even to vehicles with unmanned turrets. Some don't. What's up with that?

It all really depends on the length of the HEAT metal jet and the angle of impact. Generally speaking, the system works as intended – if the jet does not penetrate the main hull of the vehicle and only goes through the unmanned turret, the damage will be reduced. If the jet is long enough to go all the way through the unmanned turret and penetrate the hull, the vehicle will take full damage.

That's it for today, commanders. Do you have any questions for the developers? Don't hesitate to leave them on Discord and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Offer: Eastern Bloc Week

Commanders!

Today we’ve prepared the following items for you:
 • Object 490 Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • BM Oplot Tier 9 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • M-95 Degman Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • ZUBR PSP Tier 7 Premium Tank Destroyer
 • BWP-2000 Tier 7 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
 • MT-LB S8 Tier 6 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
 • Iron Crate (this time with ZTQ-15)
Between February 4 and February 11, 2021, the following items will be available:
Object 490
The Object 490 Main Battle Tank was an advanced concept from the waning days of the Soviet Union. Designed in the 1980s, it represented a radical departure from the MBT paradigm. Its distinct wedge-like shape, along with the fact that the crew was located in the back, offered unparalleled levels of protection. But the most interesting part of the design was its double suspension paired with two engines, allowing the vehicle to stay mobile even after suffering significant damage. However, the conclusion of the Cold War put an end to this design, along with many other advanced Soviet projects. You can learn more about this vehicle in our dedicated article.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In Armored Warfare, the Object 490 Tier 10 Premium MBT is perhaps the best armored vehicle in the game. It’s a true behemoth that is almost impossible to slow down, let alone knock out, and concentrated effort is required to stop one of these things when encountering them on the battlefield. The combination of extremely thick armor and a powerful 152mm gun makes this tank incredibly deadly, even though these advantages are balanced by its mediocre agility and the fact that its gun is only forward facing. This MBT is ideal for you if you prefer slow, methodical advances while dealing massive amounts of damage with each shot. If you keep your flanks secure, you’ll be all but impossible to stop.

The Object 490 MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
BM Oplot
The Oplot is a heavily upgraded T-84 Ukrainian Main Battle Tank, which is based on an older design called T-80UD. It is currently the best tank the Ukrainian military industry can offer. You can read more about its history in our dedicated article.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In Armored Warfare, the BM Oplot is a Tier 9 Premium Main Battle Tank with a playstyle similar to the T-80U. Power-wise, it’s roughly on par with the T-90MS of the same Tier, but it has a very unique ability. Its advanced Duplet armor consists of several ERA layers, making it able to negate more than one HEAT shell impact. It takes several precise hits aimed at the same location to break through it, making it a very resistant vehicle on the battlefield.
M-95 Degman
The M-95 Degman is an advanced Croatian prototype MBT, developed during the 1990s and 2000s. It is based on the previous Yugoslavian project, the Vihor MBT, which in turn has its roots in the improved T-72M series produced in former Yugoslavia. You can read more about its history in a dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the tank is relatively fast and fairly agile while carrying some potent firepower for its Tier. In fact, its owners can choose from two powerful guns:
 • 125mm 2A46 Russian-style smoothbore gun, known from many Russian MBTs
 • 120mm CTG NATO-style smoothbore gun that you know from the Challenger 1 Falcon MBT

It’s worth noting that the 120mm shells have higher penetration values and the gun can also fire Falarick ATGMs while the 125mm gun has higher damage per shot. Both guns will feature good handling as well as overall performance to offset the vehicle’s weakness, which is its mediocre armor. The Degman must rely on its mobility and firepower to survive, making it an ideal vehicle for aggressive, daring players.
ZUBR PSP
The ZUBR was a Czech privately-funded project by PSP Bohemia from the 1990s to develop a successor platform to the aging Soviet-era BMP-series IFVs and various other obsolete specialized vehicles. Even though it was quite advanced for its time, it was ultimately unsuccessful due to the end of the Cold War and the subsequent cuts in European military budgets, including the Czech one. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the ZUBR PSP is a Tier 7 wheeled Premium Tank Destroyer. What makes it fairly unique is the fact that you can choose from two different weapon systems for this vehicle:
 • Cockerill CT-CV turret with 105mm gun
 • Four-barreled TOW ATGM launcher

Each of these weapons changes the gameplay style of the vehicle considerably and it is up to you, how you configure this powerful machine.
BWP-2000
The BWP-2000 IFV was a Polish attempt from the mid-1990s to develop a replacement for the license-produced BMP-1 in the Polish military, since it was getting obsolete by that point. Its protracted development led to its cancellation at the onset of War on Terror, leaving Poland without a modern tracked IFV to this day. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the BWP-2000 is a Tier 7 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle armed with 60mm cannon as well as a set of ATGM launchers. When it comes to AFV playstyle, the BWP-2000 is definitely more of an infantry carrier and fire support vehicle than a scout due to its large size and powerful armament as well as the ability to deploy Mechanized Infantry. It can take quite a bit of punishment and deal it in equal measure.
MT-LB S8
The MT-LB S8 (also called Strela-10 RSZO) was unveiled only recently as the means for Ukraine to combine two items they did not need by themselves in order to use them effectively during the Civil War. The first one, not quite useful to the Ukrainians by itself, is the Strela-10 self-propelled SAM – its deployment is quite limited due to the fact that the separatist forces do not have any air force. The second item is an aircraft or helicopter rocket pod that is used to fire 80mm S-8 unguided rockets. Together, they form an ad-hoc rocket launcher. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the MT-LB S8 is a unique Tier 6 Armored Fighting Vehicle. What makes it stand out? Its armament, of course. This AFV does not have a lot of armor, nor is it incredibly fast, but it can fire its two full rocket pods (each has 20 rockets) within 30 seconds or less. The rockets have HEAT-MP projectiles and are absolutely deadly against practically any target, but especially against those without composite armor. On the downside, the rockets are unguided and quite inaccurate. This vehicle is not for the faint of heart!
