In Development: TR-85M1 Bizonul

Commanders!

The last prize of the Wars of the Past Battle Path remaining to be announced is the Romanian TR-85M1 Bizonul Main Battle Tank.

The Bizonul (“Bison”) is the last member of a long line of Romanian tanks going back to the 1970s. During the Warsaw Pact era, Romania had been the odd one out, a major outlier in the communist bloc, going “its own way” towards socialism like Albania or former Yugoslavia. For its dictator, Nicolai Ceausescu, this became a major issue after the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia. Romania was one of the few Soviet bloc countries that didn’t participate in it along with Albania and Yugoslavia. However, it wasn’t because Ceausescu loved the process of democratization in the 1960s – on the contrary, he hated the reformists as “counter-revolutionaries”, the reasons he condemned the invasion was the fear that the Soviets would meddle in his own affairs.

As a result, Romania started to develop its own (nearly completely locally produced) line of medium tanks roughly similar to the T-54/55 series. The goal was to become completely independent with modern arms production on the Warsaw Pact since Romania (much like former Yugoslavia) couldn’t get their hands on the latest weapons due to its status of an “unreliable ally”.

The first tank of these indigenous vehicles was the TR-77 prototype, designed in 1974. The designation stood for “Romanian Tank, 1977 model”, followed by the production version designated TR-580 (the number stood for engine horsepower) even though the actual production started in 1979 with 405 tanks built until 1985. Contrary to some sources, this tank was not a modified T-55, although it was clearly based on it. Its armament (100mm rifled gun based on a Romanian anti-tank gun) and engine (a local modified version of the V-2 engine) were both locally made. Everything on the tank was fairly rudimentary, roughly on par with a basic T-55.

In parallel with the abovementioned tank’s development, Romanian engineers worked on a new engine based on the MTU design used in the Leopard 1 tank (the plans for which were clandestinely obtained). The work was finished by 1985. Combining the TR-580 tank with this new engine produced a variant called TR-85 (or TR-85-800) because the engine produced some 800-830hp (sources vary). This variant was then put into production between 1986 and 1990 with roughly 400 vehicles built.

By 1990, such production was something Romania could ill-afford and the rearming program collapsed after the fall of communism, leaving the military with hundreds of obsolete tanks the upgrade of which had to be attempted with a very tight budget. However, at the same time, Romania was looking to join the NATO and was in desperate need of some upgrades.

The program to improve the TR-85 tank was launched in 1994 under the designation TR-85M1 Bizonul (“Bison”). The tank received new armor, new FCS and an upgraded engine. Between 1997 and 2009, 54-56 vehicles were upgraded to this standard and it remains the most modern Romanian MBT to this day.

In Armored Warfare, the TR-85M1 Bizonul will be a Tier 5 Premium Main Battle Tank as well as a prize of the Wars of the Past Battle Path campaign, obtainable for reaching Level 20.

But before we tell you more about it, here’s the usual disclaimer:

The numbers below are very preliminary as the vehicle has not been properly tested. They are sure to change and should only be discussed as an indicator of how we’d like to set the vehicle up.

With that being said:

The TR-85M1 will resemble other Soviet Tier 5 vehicles of the same Tier but the lack of protection will be compensated by increased mobility and firepower, giving it a slight slant towards the Light Tank class. Overall, the best tank to compare it to would be the T-55M1.

It’ll feature mediocre composite armor without any active or passive measures, but the mobility will be ensured by its 900hp engine, which is quite a lot for its 50 tons. The maximum speed will reach 60 km/h, but this will be possible to improve via additional progression. This upgrade will:
 • Increase the maximum speed to 75 km/h
 • Improve the hull traverse by 10 percent

Firepower-wise, at first glance, the 100mm gun sounds somewhat underpowered for its Tier, but aside from average penetration and damage values, it’ll also feature some interesting elements such as:
 • Improved propellant module, reducing the penetration over distance penalty
 • Two-round clip, which will be possible to upgrade via additional progression to a three-round one

And last but not least there are the stealth and spotting values, which will start, once again, on average values, but you’ll be able to upgrade them as such:
 • Thermal Imager module providing improved spotting range and the ability to spot through bushes
 • Special Tracks module providing reduced camouflage penalty for moving

In summation, the TR-85M1 Bizonul will be a mid-to-long range fire support vehicle with excellent mobility and utility values, almost like a Light Tank. It’ll come in handy in PvP, but in PvE, it’ll have to stay in the rear in order for it to remain effective.

We hope that you’ll enjoy this MBT as well as the entire Battle Path and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
Panzer 87-140
The Panzer 87-140 is an experimental version of Panzer 87 (Swiss Leopard 2A4), fitted with a RUAG 140mm smoothbore cannon and an armor kit called WE. It was developed in the 1980s and early 1990s to counter the next generation of Soviet MBTs, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project was shelved, only to resurface around 2005-2006 but never passing the experimental stage. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Panzer 87-140 is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. Much like other Leopard series MBTs, it’s a long-range fighter with an extremely powerful gun and the ability to fire with pinpoint accuracy. Even though its armor leaves much to be desired, at long range, this MBT has few equals and can be considered one of the best snipers of its class.

The Panzer 87-140 Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Challenger 2 Streetfighter II
The Streetfighter II is an upgrade program to overhaul the venerable Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank for the conditions of modern battlefields, especially urban combat. It features a number of improvements and extra components, most notably a dozer blade, a Brimstone ATGM twin launcher and an advanced camera system by Elbit. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Challenger 2 Streetfighter is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. Its main advantages include excellent frontal armor (enhanced by the presence of its dozer blade covering its lower frontal plate), increased ramming damage and long range lethality, courtesy of a powerful ATGM launcher. Whether you desire to bring the fighting up close or support other MBTs at distance, the Streetfighter’s got your back.

The Challenger 2 Streetfighter II Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Leclerc T40
Sometimes called the French Terminator, this vehicle was designed on the Leclerc MBT chassis with one purpose in mind – to accompany tanks and fight off infantry attacks the same way as the Russian BMPT series does. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Leclerc T40 is a Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer. It offers you a combination of a durable hull, rapid-fire 40mm automatic cannon and, most importantly, the Javelin missile system. Simply right-click the target, wait until it becomes locket and fire the Javelin ATGM – it will home itself on the target, attacking its weak roof armor. Thanks to this ability, the Leclerc T40 is one of the most destructive vehicles in the game.
Leopard 2 Revolution
The Leopard 2 Revolution is a continuation of the older Evolution upgrade, intended to improve the performance of the older variants of the Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank in order to make it excel even on the battlefields of the 21st century. The improvements include a comprehensive armor upgrade, ROSY soft-kill APS and smoke grenade launchers as well as an entire suite of cutting edge electronics. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Leopard 2 Revolution is a Tier 8 Main Battle Tank. It is not only well-armored, it also features an extremely accurate 120mm gun with advanced ammunition, allowing it to destroy its opponents at very long ranges, rivaling those of Tank Destroyers. The German tanks in general perform best at longer ranges and the Revolution is no exception.
Marder 2
The Marder 2 was an experimental German IFV, developed in the late 1980s to replace the aging Marder IFV. It featured more armor, a new turret and a brand-new Rheinmetall dual-caliber autocannon that could fire both 35mm and 50mm rounds. Despite its qualities, the vehicle was never accepted in service due to its high cost and because it was no longer needed because of the fall of the Soviet Union. A single surviving prototype can be found today in the Koblenz military collection. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Marder 2 is a Tier 8 Armored Fighting Vehicle. With its 44 tons, it’s one of the heaviest and toughest AFVs around. Unlike many other AFVs of its Tier, it is not armed with guided missiles, relying instead on its extremely powerful 50mm autocannon. This vehicle can also deploy Mechanized Infantry.
AMX-10 RCR
The AMX 10 RCR is the updated variant of the French AMX 10 RC fire support vehicle by GIAT, originally developed in the early 1980s. This light and nimble wheeled 6x6 AFV was armed with a 105mm gun, allowing it to knock out even armored targets at considerable distances. Over 200 of these aging vehicles were upgraded by Nexter in 2010 with improved armor and electronics, enabling them to fulfill modern battlefield tasks until their eventual replacement by the Jaguar. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the AMX 10 RCR is a Tier 8 wheeled Premium Tank Destroyer. It’s incredibly agile with its wheeled chassis allowing it to outrun pretty much any enemy on the battlefield save for the fastest AFVs. Its gun accuracy is also top notch, making this vehicle perfect for sniper-style gameplay as its thin armor can’t protect it against enemy shells at close distances. This vehicle also comes with the Hydraulic Suspension active ability.
Kampfpanzer 70
The Kampfpanzer 70 is the German sibling of the MBT-70. Back in the 1960s, the Germans and the Americans cooperated on the creation of a new, highly advanced Main Battle Tank, armed with a powerful 152mm gun and cutting edge technology. The project was a failure and the tank was never adopted for several reasons, including an extremely high price. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Kampfpanzer 70 is a Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank, just like the MBT-70. Although both vehicles generally look the same way, there are some differences. For one, the Kampfpanzer 70 cannot fire the Shillelagh guided missiles, but can use HE ammunition, making it truly deadly against lightly armored opponents.
Pile of Gold
We also have the Pile of Gold Loot Crate for you. This Loot Crate contains copious amounts of Gold for you to win.

This Loot Crate includes:
 • 250.000 Gold
 • 100.000 Gold
 • 50.000 Gold
 • 10.000 Gold
 • 5.000 Gold
 • 1.000 Gold
 • 500 Gold
 • 100 Gold

Starting today, we’re implementing a new mechanic to the MY.GAMES Market Loot Crates (no worries – the in-game crates will remain the same). The mechanic is simple – instead of purchasing the Loot Crates, you purchase keys to them, which you then use to unlock them.

However, please note:
 • Discounts do not apply to Loot Crates, but rather to Keys
 • It is possible to buy multiple keys for a single chest type
 • Keys belong to individual Loot Crates (that is, a key to a Commander Loot Crate purchased now is not guaranteed to work on a Commander Loot Crate a month down the line)
 • Keys can be found in a separate Market section

We hope that you will enjoy the offer and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
