Storyline Campaign Prologue: Additional Objective

  • June 2028, Chicago

“Now, one more thing, if you will...”

I rolled my eyes discreetly, but apparently not discreetly enough, as the act did not escape my gracious but somewhat irritating host, who reacted with a frown.

“Master Thorpe, you do not realize the scope, or, indeed, the very nature of things that will be asked for you. Surely you do understand we do not need anyone to show our people which side of the gun points where. The tasks you will face...”

He suddenly paused, closing his eyes as if to recollect himself, rubbing his fingers against forehead. I got the feeling he was about to reveal something he shouldn’t have, something important. Behind the cool veneer was a level of anxiety I did not expect. But these miniscule cracks in facade went as quickly as they came. As composed as ever, he continued:

“It takes far more than wielding a gun to be a man. A man, Master Thorpe, a true man that is, must be capable of anything and know a bit of everything. Wage a war. Compose a sonnet. Dress a wound. Cook a tasty meal. After all...”

Another pause.

“Specialization is for insects, not men.”

That was a nice dodge, I thought, as I refocused on the task with renewed vigor. There’s definitely much more to this contract that I thought. The mask slipped once, it would slip again. Perhaps I could use that to leverage my future salary. We’ll see. But one thing was for certain. This interview was almost over.

Commanders!

We’ve prepared an additional Prologue objective for you; one that can be solved easily, or can take you some time – your choice.

The launch of the Northern Wind Battle Path is imminent. Once that happens, the ability to earn Battle Coins by simply playing will become available even to those players, who do not have the access to the Battle Path.

The task is simple:
  • Obtain 2.500 Battle Coins until June 30, 2021 (should equal playing roughly 2 hours per day from the launch date until the end of Storyline Campaign’s Prologue)
  • Make a screenshot of your account with 2.500 Battle Coins
  • Submit the screenshot with your in-game name to a special form
Rewards:
  • Exclusive player title: “Adventurer”
  • 1 day of Premium Time

Additionally, if more than 30% of all players who complete the main Prologue objective complete this additional objective, an additional 10% negative difficulty modifier will be applied to the campaign (in other words, future episodes will become 10% easier).

Please note:
  • Please absolutely make sure to submit your screenshot to the proper form, you won’t be eligible for the reward
  • Only players registered for the Storyline Campaign can complete this objective
  • Only players who will have completed the main Prologue objective at the end of the Prologue episode can complete this objective
  • The reward in this case will be distributed after the end of the Prologue objective
  • To create a screenshot in the game, please press "Printscreen" and then click on the notification that will appear in the lower right corner to open the screenshot's folder
  • The Secret Objective is now also available

Historical Camouflage – Swedish Export

Commanders!

The final camouflage that’s coming as a part of the Scandinavian asset bundle is the Swedish Export one. This camouflage consists of a very complicated pattern devised by BAE to promote one of the latest iterations of the CV90 IFV, intended for the Czech Republic tender.

This version of the CV90, roughly similar to the CV90 Mk.IV we will have in the game, was presented in two configurations (with a manned turret and an unmanned one) under the name CV90CZ (and CV90CZr respectively) at the IDET 2017 expo in Brno. The Mk.IV version would later be derived from it.

Historically, the camouflage isn’t all that interesting aside from being quite the looker. Arms manufacturers always come up with attractive patterns that catch the eye of potential buyers during official events, making their vehicles look cool and futuristic. But we wanted to take the opportunity to demonstrate the difficulty of implementing such camouflages in Armored Warfare.

In its most basic form, Armored Warfare separates each camouflage pattern into tiles and each tile consists of four channels – three colors and a black overlay. The colors are the RGB channels and are internally marked red, green and blue, although each channel can be set to any color or even to appear transparent, in which case the vehicle’s base paint will appear in its stead. The black overlay is laid on top of them and can have as many shades of transparency as we want – even gradients, which we use to simulate “soft” camouflage edges.

What this means in practice is that while the system is robust enough for even rather advanced camouflage patterns, anything truly complex must be hand-painted, which is why some of the most desired camouflage patterns, such as the Japanese winter camouflage featuring white stripes, had to be implemented as skins (which typically are painted manually).

It’s also worth noting that texture mapping differs from vehicle to vehicle, which is why the same camouflage can appear different on various machines. In the case of historical camouflages, we do our best to make them fit the vehicles they were actually used on. In this particular case, that would be the CV90 Mk.IV.

In this case, we did our best to make the camouflage look like the original using all layers and transparency levels. It isn’t a perfect reproduction, but we believe that the pattern will still be attractive enough for you to consider using it. The camouflage will of course be available for all three environments.

We hope that you will enjoy it and, as usual:

See you on the battlefield!

Battle-Hardened Discounted Bundles

Commanders!

For today’s offer, we’ve prepared a series of Battle-Hardened bundles for four Chinese progression MBTs, including the Type 99A2. These discounted bundles contain Gold as well as the Battle-Hardened status, which will turn your Progression vehicle into a semi-Premium one by increasing its Credit income, Experience income, and by improving its matchmaking quality so that you meet lower Tier opponents in battle than usual, much like Premium vehicles do.

The discounted Battle-Hardened bundles are available for the following vehicles:
  • Type 99A2 Tier 10 MBT (50% discount)
  • Type 99A Tier 9 MBT (45% discount)
  • Type 99 Tier 8 MBT (35% discount)
  • VT-4 Tier 8 MBT (35% discount)

Please note that if you do not own the vehicle in question, you will receive the Battle Hardened status price in Gold instead.

We hope that you will enjoy the offer and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Contest: Famine Speedrun

Commanders!

With Update 0.36 deployed, the Special Operations mission “Famine” is now available with another piece of the Apocalypse season content coming soon – the Northern Wind Battle Path. Today, we’d like to offer you the opportunity to win the access to it in our newest contest.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

As its name suggests, the goal is actually very simple – gather a full team of five players and beat the Famine Special Operation mission on as fast as you can. There will be two categories – one for Tier 7 vehicles and another for Tier 9 vehicles.

Here’s how you can participate:
  • Assemble a team of five players (you included) and form a platoon
  • Play the Famine Special Operation and record your time until June 22, 23:59 CEST
  • Submit the result (along with a replay of your attempt) to the dedicated contest channel on Discord (make sure you read the detailed rules below)

There will be two winning teams in this event (one per category – Tier 7 and Tier 9). Each winning team will receive the access to the Northern Wind Battle Path.

Please note:
  • Only one submission per team will be accepted
  • Team composition cannot change and are considered locked from the moment of the first submission
  • Any changes in composition of a locked team will lead to the affected submissions being disqualified
  • Individual players who are already locked in one team cannot participate in this contest as a part of another team, such an attempt will lead to the entire new team’s disqualification (when in doubt, team leaders are advised to make sure their members are not locked with another team already by checking the previous submissions)
  • Each team must elect its leader, who will be responsible for submitting any results (submissions from other team members will not be accepted)
  • Each submission must therefore include: Team Leader Name, Team Members, Result Screenshot, Result Replay (from any of the team’s members)
  • Should two or more teams achieve the same time, the earliest submission takes precedence
  • All submitted battles must take place between the publication of this article and June 22, 23:59 CEST
  • Players who own the access already (for example by having purchased it during the pre-order period) will receive 2.999 Gold instead

Good luck, commanders, and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
