Somua SM: Armor and an Autoloader
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
It looks like the AMX 50 100 or Lorraine. What, you didn't penetrate it? That's because, unlike its lightly armored counterparts, the heavy Somua SM confidently withstands enemy hits. Its three-shell autoloading gun rids an enemy of 930 HP per magazine, pleasing its commander with victories and a solid credit income!
Sometime after your first battle in the Somua SM, you might get an offer for a Legendary camo that changes the tank's name in battle to Somua Grenadier.

Despite their physical resemblance and equal armament, unlike the researchable AMX 50 100, the new Somua SM relies on protection, not on mobility. Its turret has 200 mm of armor in the lower part and 135 mm of armor in the upper part, while the thickness of the upper armor plate of its hull is 155 mm. Taking into account the slopes, these parts of the armor can withstand hits from guns that penetrate up to 240 mm.

A small change in the hull's position towards an enemy shot increases the effective thickness of the armor, but don't overdo it, or else you risk your tracks. The lower armor plate is traditionally weak—its thickness is only 50 mm. So try not to expose it to enemy fire. The turret's vulnerable points are the commander's hatch and a small armor strip below the gun. The Somua SM must maneuver to prevent the enemy from targeting these spots.
It's important to pay attention to the turret's position in battle. It is an oscillating type of turret where gun depression affects the slope angle of turret armor. This angle is optimal when the gun is parallel to the ground. Elevating the gun will expose the vulnerable spot below it. If the gun is depressed, the entire upper part of the turret can be easily penetrated.

The Somua SM's gun features a 3-shell magazine with a 3-second reload time between shots. During the first 6 seconds, the tank is capable of dealing 930 HP of damage. The 232 mm of penetration is enough to penetrate most Tier VIII targets head-on. Its dispersion and aiming time are not of sniper quality, therefore, its gun is most effective at close and medium ranges.
After all three shells are fired, the tank needs quite a long time to reload: 25 seconds without equipment or 23 seconds with food provisions and Improved Ventilation installed. To survive this temporary helplessness, the Somua SM's commander must choose directions with multiple covers and avoid fighting on their own. This is especially important because the new tank can't quickly escape enemy fire and drive to the other end of the map.

The Somua SM moves steadily, just like a heavy tank with decent armor should. It will take just a couple of seconds to accelerate to 20 km/h, before reaching 30 km/h in about 6 seconds. Accelerating to the maximum of 40 km/h is possible when moving on a long, straight road or down a hill. The leisurely-paced suspension doesn't allow this tank to meet every shot from fans of outmaneuvering with its frontal armor, but the quick turret will ensure that the Somua SM always keeps offenders at gunpoint and doesn't fail to return fire.
Though the Somua SM is decently armored, it's not suitable for playing on the first line of attack. Its protection should be primarily used not for blocking damage but for effectively trading damage with enemies. To take aim and deliver all three shells right on target, the Somua SM must take advantage of its increased protection and stop.
In clashes with other heavies, the Somua SM will demonstrate great results on the second line of attack, teaming up with the most durable heavies like the Tiger II. Unleashing the entire magazine and safely reloading under the cover of an ally will allow this tank to successfully breach enemy defenses.

If medium tanks on the enemy team outnumber those on the allied team, the Somua SM can reinforce this flank. Its appearance will surprise the enemy while its frontal armor and firepower will help allies to quickly wipe out the enemy "cavalry". It's important that allied medium tanks stay low key and wait for the Frenchman's arrival, as it doesn't stand a chance on its own.
In any case, the Somua SM is capable of dealing impressive damage, and the amount of credits earned in battle will delight the commander of this new tank.

The Somua SM boasts a perfect gun depression angle of 10 degrees. This tank effectively takes advantage of terrain irregularities to hide its lower armor plate. Sticking the turret out from behind the hill, reeling off the entire magazine at the enemy, and retreating calmly to safety for reloading is a great strategy!
