"I think it’s unfair to kind of geofence the genre": Original Stalker designer talks Eurojank in not-so-Euro games


Video games, or more so the people who play them, I suppose, have this annoying thing where they assign a genre name as an insult. I don't want to reignite the discourse around JRPG as a term, but it certainly was used in quite a derisive and othering manner in its earlier years. The term walking sim was used more as a point of ironic degradation, even though it was perfectly apt in many ways. Then there's Eurojank, a sort of real but not technically real genre that describes ambitious but imperfect games made by European developers. And Andrii Verpakhovskyi, designer on the original Stalker games, doesn't think such jank should be geologically categorised.

[h2]S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition is now available on Steam![/h2]

Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Prypiat get a refresh with enhanced graphics, next-gen console optimizations, and broader modding support.

The trilogy receives a visual upgrade across all platforms, featuring improved lighting with godrays, screen space reflections, and global illumination for a more immersive experience. Textures and 3D models for NPCs, weapons, and environments are enhanced, with advanced shaders for water and wetness effects and updated skyboxes for a dynamic world. 4K pre-rendered cinematics sharpen storytelling, and an adjusted FOV improves combat visibility.

PC players gain Steam Deck optimization, Steam Workshop access for mods, cloud saves for progress backup, and full gamepad support.

For PC, to thank our loyal fans, owners of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games get the Enhanced Editions free, and buyers of the Enhanced Editions receive the original versions included.

Fancy a jaunt back into The Zone? GSC Game World released the long awaited Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl last November, steadling improving it after an (understandably) rocky launch. There's been several hefty updates for the sequel released along the way, and it turns out the developer has been even busier than expected. GSC Game World announced Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition today, a revamp of the original three games, Shadow of Chornobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Prypiat, that mostly brings in some visual upgrades.

Console release and weeklong Steam deal for all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans

Winter is a tough season, especially in the Zone. And even though some winter days felt like late March, stalkers are jubilant to welcome the advent of spring. The season when everything is new, the world refreshes, and the Zone is no exception. Curious mutants lurking through the grass searching for adventures, artefacts and anomalies are easier to spot. Seasoned veterans are ready to find what was left under the snow, some romantic stalkers are happy to see first flowers and traders are ready to welcome newcomers.

It is up to you to choose one you prefer.
