Starbase - Progress Notes Week 11 (2021)

Hello everyone. Here are the progress notes of week 11 of 2021!

Please note that the "Progress Notes" are different from the Starbase Alpha "Patch Notes". Progress Notes are snippets from the development team and what has been worked on during the previous week, and many of the features might not be present in the current or upcoming builds of the Closed Alpha. Some features, especially in the design portion, can be subject to change as the development continues.

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Ship Diagnostic Scanner has been finished and added to shops and Ship Designer
  • Salvage Collector asset design has been finished
  • Connector plug and resource plug components have been created and configured for Large Generator assets and tested
  • Work on Easy Build Mode continues
  • New armor mechanics for penetration depth based on material density have been tested


User Interface
  • New social tab for mission groups has been designed, can be split into units if needed
  • Auction House introduction and additional tutorial choices has been worked on
  • Naming policy for ships, chips and companies has been worked on


Stations and Cities
  • Floating holograms have been removed from the Moon city
  • Old windows have been replaced with the new ones in Lot designer's Small, Large and Hallway -modules
    • Medium halls and the rest of the buildings are in progress
Other
  • Pincer has been updated: second generator unit has been added
  • Vasama purchasing terminal removed from Marketplace.
  • The following ships have been removed from Duratech ship shop:
    • LYNGBAKER A, Beli DTX-BEL8-A, Sinthgut DTX-SGT5-A, Heptifili A DTX-HEP1-A
  • Ships moved to Chemosh ship shop from Rando 3:
    • Chemosh Badger-28, Chemosh Ark I
  • Rando shipshop changes:
    • MLS-8-252 "Truzhenik" added to Rando 3
    • Gourami removed from Rando 3
    • Marlin removed from Rando 2
    • Hype Van, Hype Van Autocannon Blue and Hype Van Autocannon Red removed from Rando 1
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Resource consumption order issues have been fixed
  • Quick melee environmental hit detection while aboard a moving ship has been fixed
  • The tech behind Cargo Lock Beams and Cargo Frames has been refactored, improving multiplayer functionality
  • Thruster consumption improvements (affecting especially Plasma Thrusters)
  • The very base gameplay for tripod weapons has been finished and bug fixing and adding remaining functionality has started
  • Work with chain explosions has been finished


User Interface
  • Work on adding company bank accounts has continued
  • Work on the mail system has continued
  • First version of Mission overview page has been finished


In-game Designers
  • Snapping issues with certain beam combinations not snapping together in SSC have been fixed


[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on improving midair animations continues
  • New transition animations when entering/exiting prone are under work


Stations and Cities
  • Hallway modules' connecting sides have been visually updated


Other
  • Trinity armorset textures and paintjobs have been updated
  • Visual and performance updates have been made to Fast Travel Gate travel VFX
  • Maneuver Thruster: Some of the stability and performance issues have been addressed and some minor visual updates have been made

Hello everyone. Here are the progress notes of week 10 of 2021!

Please note that the "Progress Notes" are different from the Starbase Alpha "Patch Notes". Progress Notes are snippets from the development team and what has been worked on during the previous week, and many of the features might not be present in the current or upcoming builds of the Closed Alpha. Some features, especially in the design portion, can be subject to change as the development continues.

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Weapons no longer leave empty magazines in inventory when the magazine is spent
  • Players are no longer able to punch while in cursor mode
  • Details on material refining process has been worked on
  • Salvage Collector (part of the refining process) design has been started
  • Material Point Scanner has been tested on asteroids, devices and other objects after committed fixes
  • Work on Large Generator continues, current assets have been tested
  • Missile design and launch testing, removing speed inherit fixed some issues with missiles colliding with ships


User Interface
  • Mission invitation and accepting logic has been updated, players accept mission and accepted players are invited by officer


Other
  • Floating resource bridges in one of ther Robur's refill stations have been placed in their correct location
  • Several updates have been made to player ship shops: new ships have been added and some ship placements have been changed
  • Kodiak and Serf spaceships have been updated


[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Quality of life fixes to "facing to up" orientation bind have been made
  • Initial resource network support for material gasses (not yet available in game)
  • Server support for resource generating devices has been worked on
  • Various issues with tripod weapon magazine handling have been fixed


User Interface
  • Mail server support for receiving attachments has been finished


In-game Designers
  • Initialization order related issues that occurred when opening certain maps in the Spaceship Designer have been fixed
  • Issues that caused entering the Station Designer to get stuck with larger stations have been fixed


[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on improving midair animations continues


Stations and Cities
  • Level art for planet city barricade modules has been made
  • OKI and Rando ship shop identifying holograms have been updated
  • Work on Skyscraper Roof 04 interior has started


Other
  • Work on Exorium processing unit model is nearly complete
  • Visual and performance updates to Warp Gate entry VFX

Some features, especially in the design portion, can be subject to change as the development continues.

  • Ship Diagnostic Scanner has been tested: working as intended, more throughout testing continues
  • Refill Terminal UI re-design has been finished (support for multiple propellant types)
  • Large Generators preliminary design has been finished, asset design has been started
  • Work on easy build mode continues
  • Weapon balance has been worked on, tests and adjustments to small weapons have been looked into


User Interface
  • New Company missions review system for individual participants has been designed
  • Mission rating and medals and Company rank rights have been worked on
  • Features to review mission success and giving feedback have been worked on


Other
  • Locations of Okim 1 and 2 shipshops in Origin station have been swapped
  • Repair job shipwreck (Laborer) has been updated
  • The following ships were removed from Sunny ship center:
    • Gofer
    • Mason
    • Ithaca V1
    • Ithaca V4
    • Ocelot
    • Vector
    • Peon
    • Vasama
    • Twin Vasama

  • The addition of two new material slots to backpack have been worked on
  • Tripod reloading has been worked on
  • Ship Diagnostic Scanner has been committed

  • Work on the mail system has continued
    • Work on the server side support for sending item attachments has started
  • Company Mission overview page has been worked on
  • Station Manager Access page has been worked on


In-game Designers
  • Using ship showroom test flight spawns the ship at the nearest ship spawn area
  • Scene loading code placing certain ships out of bounds has been fixed
  • Furniture-category not being visible in interior designer have been fixed


[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • 3rd person mid-air animations have been polished


Stations and Cities
  • Skyscraper Roof Module 03 has been finished
  • New windows have been made. Waiting for implementation


Other
  • Inventory icons for the updated ladder assets have been added
  • Inventory icons for modular button assets have been added:
    • Button 12x12, button 12x24, light button 12x12, Safety Lid button (Round), Safety Lid button (square) and Switch 12x24cm
    • Some colors have been flipped to differentiate the button variants from each other
  • Inventory icons for Ship Diagnostic Scanner have been added
  • Plasma Thruster: Snap points to the nozzle support legs have been added
  • A set of objects that connect large thrusters have been created
  • Issues with unwanted VFX sometimes appearing behind Mounted Laser barrel have been fixed
  • Work of player re-spawn effects for Reconstruction Machine has started

Hello everyone. Here are the progress notes of week 8 of 2021!

Please note that the "Progress Notes" are different from the Starbase Alpha "Patch Notes". Progress Notes are snippets from the development team and what has been worked on during the previous week, and many of the features might not be present in the current or upcoming builds of the Closed Alpha. Some features, especially in the design portion, can be subject to change as the development continues.

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Spawn orientation has been fixed on Reconstruction Machines: players will now face "away" from the machine when spawning
  • Plasma Thruster exhaust damage effects have been configured
  • Center of Mass and Center of Thrust indicators have been tested in Ship Designer
  • Refill Terminal UI design update has been worked on
  • Work on Large Generator continues
  • Work on Easy Build Mode continues: module rotation, controls and binds have been tested
  • Karnite propellant tanks and configurations for them have been made


User Interface
  • Work on Spaceship tutorial continues
  • Design for new Company ship UI is underway: rank access, personal access and team access has been worked on
  • Station and Ship Manager UIs have been worked on


Stations and Cities
  • A new event space station "Pirate Outpost" has been created


Other
  • Two new buttons have been added: Safety Lid Button Round and Safety Lid Button Square
  • Switch 12x24 cm has been added
  • Several improvements to the decal editing in Spaceship Designer have been designed


[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • An issue with ship despawing when leaving the station while despawn window is visible has been fixed
  • Scrap detection system when loading large amounts of static objects (for example stations) has been optimized
  • Tripod weapon functionality has been worked on


User Interface
  • Work on adding company bank accounts has continued


In-game Designers
  • Decal icons and name localizations have been added to asset browser
  • Automatic thruster naming not working for plasma thrusters has been fixed
  • Several improvements to the decal editing in Spaceship Designer have been implemented


[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on melee animations continues
  • Work on decalizer & painter tool animations continues
  • Missing prone transition animations are in the making


Stations and Cities
  • Missing ramps at player shipshop entrances have been fixed
  • Holograms have been added to player shipshop (Duratech, Okim and Rando) entrances and rooftops to help players identify them


Other
  • Signal booster device has been modeled and textured
  • Moon ground materials have been updated with more variations
  • More launcher related inventory icons have been created
  • Icons for Virtual Mass and Thruster Field Name tools have been created
  • First version of Large Plasma Thruster VFX
  • Significant visual and behavioral updates to Box and Triangle Thrusters
