Starbase - Progress Notes Week 24 (2020)

Hello everyone! It's time for progress notes again. Here are the notes of week 24, please enjoy!

[h3]Design[/h3]

Features
  • Weapon properties were tested to see which ones aren't currently used
  • Grabbing tool carry limit bugs have been tested in various situations, these issues have been fixed
  • Configurations to make Assembly Job terminals look identical with Mining Job terminals and the new instruction terminal have been started
  • Building Tool has been tested for repairing damaged objects, both with processed material and ore
  • All infantry weapon damage values have been fixed
  • Economy design: preparations worked on for new crafting values, testing and planning
  • Economy configurations, all prices in economy have been set to static values and outpost configurations have been updated to work better in static values
  • New configurations have been made to most of the items in crafting data, this has major effect on value of some items, like weapons, tools, beams and plates (and some electronics)
  • Auction House sell page, listing logic and selling order has been worked on
  • Designs for more cohesive in-game editor UI's are underway
  • Removable railgun ammo in Marketplace is now static and properly glued in
  • Collision error threshold was adjusted in one curved plate (curved end 60x60x12), it now fits/snaps inside (curved 108x108x12)


Stations
  • Lot Designer hall modules are being remodeled to better fit their designated lot area sizes.
  • New module "Small hall 7" has been added to Lot Designer


Spaceships
  • Ithaca v4: More bolts added to fix durability issues when all doors were open
  • Pioneer: Bolt added to fix a durability issue when both doors were open, radiator added to the ship
  • Vector: Bolts added to fix a durability issue in one propellant container when both doors were open
  • Gofer: Bolts added to the pilot chair, the chair was failing durability when moved on the slider


[h3]Code[/h3]

Gameplay
  • Active input not being disabled when leaving a chair by sitting on another chair has been fixed.
  • This was due to an issue where levers that were being pulled would not center etc.
  • Changing a device field name to nothing now results in it resetting to its default name
  • An issue fixed where lot building holograms appeared on top of built objects, potentially preventing further building due to doorway connection restrictions
  • An issue causing crashes when performing a modulo operation with a divisor of zero has been fixed
  • Grabbing a rail mover not updating its device network connection status has been fixed
  • Server support for player-to-player trading has been finished
  • Players are now set not to accelerate falling after a certain threshold velocity
  • Heavy objects now remain kinematic when hit by an impact sufficient to make them move
  • Durability now includes the mass of Modular Ore Cargo Crate contents (although fails to register its changes in many cases, and the implementation is likely replaced with another approach later)
  • Lots of moving objects colliding should now affect the frame rate less than before
  • Autobolter can now add a bolt on existing, partially bolted attachment plates
  • Some devices can now be assembled without bolts (e.g. boxthruster), some issues related to this still need fixing


User Interface
  • A chat message "Trade Cancelled" now shows up when trade window is closed and no trade happened
  • Trade cancelling happening twice has been fixed
  • Magazine duplication has been fixed in Assembly Job
  • Syncing the rewards now works from leaders to members and vice versa
  • Feedback tool's screenshot editor has options for tools, including a color picker, slider to adjust line thickness and font size, and various fonts for the text tool


Spaceship/Lot/Interior Designer
  • The interior designer is currently being worked on
  • An issue where clients were not being able to leave while in test mode has been fixed
  • Load autosave temp GUI has been removed from the File menu; Autosaves can be accessed from the load blueprint dialog
  • Selecting modules hidden behind other components has been fixed
  • Input bugs in station designer system box have been fixed
  • Button inputs have been added to naming and renaming blueprints


[h3]Art[/h3]

Animations
  • One handed tool run/walk animations (3rd person) have been polished
  • Emote_no2_b.has been finished and emote_facepalm_a is in the making
  • Crouch stop and run stop animations have been polished
  • Midair death animations have been updated


Stations
  • Holograms updated in Starting station:
    All the holograms have been visually tweaked to better match the shape of the station's beam structure.
    Exterior hologram decorations added to Command center, Ship Designer Workshop and Spaceship shop
    Positions for holograms in the Ore Storage Towers have been updated to prevent offsetting and clipping with the grids, decorations and other physical objects
  • Exterior decorations and LODs for "Small hall 5" have been updated, due to said module not fitting the small LotArea properly
  • LODs added for the updated Spaceship designer work area decorations in Ship Design Workshops
  • Command center's LOD/farLOD model has been updated
  • Irrelevant barricade tape decals have been removed from numerous modules used in mega station structures


Other
  • Icons updated for Small Gas Container, Medium Gas Container, Large Gas Container and Fuel rod
  • Sparrow armorset's textures have been added
  • Sharp medium size rocks for ice asteroids have been made
  • Work-in-progress models for medium-sized ice rocks, and ice rock placement tests have been made
  • Ice rock placement tests for ice asteroids ongoing
  • Small changes made to tonemap, resulting in less contrast between dark and bright areas. Bloom values still waiting for modification support
  • Laser rifle's projectile and muzzle flash have been updated
  • The 10mm bullet hit and projectile effects have been modified
  • Laser turret effects have been updated and the projectile now matches the updated laser rifle effect

Features
  • Re-design for the Mining Backpack has been made, there is now more slots for items
  • Ore mass and carry limits have been tested in the Mining Job for possible issues
  • New instructions have been added to all Assembly Job workstations
  • Economy and terminals have been added to the new infantry arena
  • Fixes and configurations to the economy are being worked on
  • Design for player to player trade functions are being worked on
  • Design worked on for trade UI changes (player credits moved and standard credit field)
  • Trade safety features, messaging and errors are being worked on
  • In-game chat whisper logic has been updated to work better with new player names
  • Shop Item description should now correctly show keybinds if item has keybind info written to the description


Stations
  • Floor lights have been added to the Asteroid Mining Job workstations
  • Ore storage towers have been relocated in stations: Capital Imperial (Origin), Empire Outpost and Kingdom Outpost
  • Marketplace's landing platforms are now reserved for landing only; ships can be spawned in the take-off docks
  • Issue where some Lot Designer modules can't be placed in their corresponding lot area sizes is being worked on
  • "Mini station U" has been changed, in preparation for an upcoming battle event


Spaceships
  • Player made ships have been added to the marketplace and to the economy ("Aphelios" made by TGess and "Mule" made by Okim)
  • Ship "Anubis" is now available in Ship showroom
  • Premade ships have been updated due to a durability fix


Spaceship Designer
  • Rotate tool "Tick Amount" & "Rotation speed" settings have been added to Tool Options
  • Move tool "Unrestricted Movement With Camera" setting has been added to Tool options window
  • Snap Tool "Snap Tool Lock Time" setting has been added to Tool Options window


Lot Designer
  • Plans made to start implementing Interior Designer to function alongside with Lot Designer

Gameplay
  • Fixing tool only highlighting each targeted hologram once has been fixed
  • Issues with headlamp lighting up equipped tools excessively have been fixed
  • Headlamp light staying in the scene after the player exits has been fixed
  • An issue where headlamp keybind getting bound twice when resetting all binds to defaults has been fixed
  • Headlamps don't cause visual 'syncing' to other players anymore
  • Programmable progress bar panels having empty variable name field name by default has been fixed
  • Server support for player-to-player trading has been partially implemented
  • An issue caused by resource networks has been fixed
  • Cables and pipes are now destroyed when grabbing a part of a structure connected by them alone
  • Durability fixes (frame beams no longer created by two connections to only one other beam; beams connected to thruster bases are also validated more accurately)
  • Durability warnings added for (otherwise valid) non-frame beams
  • Durability visualization adjusts exposure
  • Autobolter support has been added for non-orthogonal (currently, the 30-degree) beams
  • Lifeline now stuns warped players for a while, during which they can only sit into chairs
  • Regular point snapping has been optimized, so that it can be used with larger objects


User Interface
  • Rendering and dragging have been added for slots in the trade area
  • An issue with swapping between crate slots and station storage has been fixed
  • Items now show up in the correct size in the trade grid
  • Dragged items now disappear in the source inventories
  • A check for space has been added for offered items
  • 'Request trade' option has been added to social tab context menu
  • Trade window now open and close for both players.
  • Ellipse, line and freeform tools have been added to the Feedback tool's screenshot editor


Spaceship Designer
  • Scene saving and loading while MUUS is currently active has been prevented
  • An issue where "File / Open premade blueprint" unexpectedly opens the remote blueprint dialog if the current scene is empty has been fixed
  • Missing localized values have been added to the save error popup when the user attempts to save an invalid scene
  • Lot terminal blueprint controls have been hidden from non-admins
  • Rotate tool, move tool and snap tool settings have been added to tool options window
  • An issue that prevented the rotation (and sometimes move-) tool from being used after switching tools has been fixed


[h3]Art[/h3]

Animations
  • Unarmed run/walk strafe animation has changed: affected animations are being worked on, so they work correctly with the new strafe
  • Crouch stop animations have been polished
  • Rifle crouch stop animations are in the making
  • Clap and mid-air death animations are in the making


Stations
  • First version of holograms have been added to Capital Imperial (Origin) station
  • Ore Storage Towers updated: four color variants made and lights added
  • "Barricade tape" decals have been deleted from multiple decorative station objects
  • LOD mesh and textures in small Ship Design Workshops' lounge areas have been updated
  • Both small and large Ship Design Workshops' farLODs have been updated: Unnecessary interior
  • windows removed, and textures and tintmasks changed.
  • Textures and tintmasks for both small and large Asteroid Collection halls' farLODs have been updated
  • LOD/farLOD have been added to hall module "Prospector Shop 1 A"
  • Tonemap updated: Brightness increased, specifically in darker areas
  • Spaceship Designer's work area decorations have been updated
  • Proper textures have been added for the remote explosive
  • Sharp L size rocks for asteroids have been made
  • A total of 35 ice asteroids have been created
  • The weapon effects of laser rifle have been improved
  • Lights have been removed from projectiles and weapon hit effects
  • Icons have been updated and added for the following tools: Building tool, Pipe tool, Cable tool, Welding tool, Bolt tool and Saw tool

[h3]Design[/h3]

Features
  • Collection area sizes were adjusted in the Asteroid Mining Job: now the collection area covers the whole collection shaft
  • Sell terminals were added to new ore storage towers
  • Station windows were added to the LotBuildingManager as part of the framework which is mandatory to build first
  • Asteroid Mining Job rewards were increased by 50%
  • Furnace Design has been worked on, current math calculations have been finished
  • Anubis has been added to the market and to the economy
  • Major material price adjustments and related economy design configurations have been made
  • Design for trade UI changes have been made
  • Improvements for social menu player invitations (group, company and friends) have been made


Stations

  • New Kingdom Outpost station has been updated:
    • Kingdom's Spaceship shop -grid slot has been placed
    • Vertical bridges rotated to their correct setting
    • StationAreaEntity has been resized and centered
    • Spaceship Design Workshops' instance load modes have been corrected


  • Proving Grounds updated:
    • Spaceship Design Workshops' instance load modes have been corrected
    • StationAreaEntity has been resized and centered
    • "Ore storage tower" has been completed, and several copies have been placed on stations: Capital Imperial (Origin), Empire Outpost and Kingdom Outpost


Spaceship Designer

  • The number of Main Flight Computers (MFC) is now limited in Spaceship Designer (max 5)
  • Spaceship Lamps have been finished: 8 colors for each variant

Gameplay
  • 'Approaching safezone border' -messages now appear when approaching from either side of the zone, not just from outside
  • Lot hologram code has been optimized to perform a bit better
  • A flashlight has been implemented for robots
  • An option has been added for magnetic boots unseating behavior
  • Ship recovery system has undergone some changes
  • Item prediction issue when moving items between inventories has been fixed
  • Durability now shows everything in yellow when designing a ship that does not yet have a valid frame
  • Lifeline has been tweaked
  • Stations now manufacture the intended amounts of items in all cases


User Interface
  • Lifeline icon now show up only if there are friendly ships within the range
  • Reward fluctuation system has been implemented
  • Initial bare-bones version of a screenshot editor has been implemented for the Feedback tool
  • UI for player trade is in the making


Spaceship Designer

  • Lot designer blueprints have been hidden from asset browser and open blueprint dialog in the ship designer, and vice versa
  • A bug that allowed buying invalid ships has been fixed
  • Forced autosave added before the user opens the open blueprint dialog
  • Forced autosave added before the user opens a previous autosave stash file


Planets and Moons

  • Issue with moon surface not counting as a collision when releasing grabbed items has been fixed
  • Moon surface generation has been updated


Renderer

  • Asteroid ring optimization is in the making

  • Walk stop and crouch stop animations have been polished
  • Giggle and clap4 emotes are in the making
  • Emote_sulk has been modified heavily
  • Emote_yes2 a and b have been updated: 2a got a small modification and up down aimings, 2b got heavily modified
  • 1st person animations have been made for the Pipe Tool


Stations

  • LODs for Station_hall_b_medium_18 have been updated
  • LODs for station_modules_trading_market_station_elevator_hall have been updated
  • LOD/farLOD models of mega_station_slot_37152_command_center_1_a have been updated and new texture maps have been baked and painted


Other

  • Hall and hallway module icons have been updated in Station Creator, so that they match the actual modules
  • Remote explosive, remote detonator and explosive pack assets have been added with preliminary textures, and are ready for final texturing and gameplay implementation
  • Resource Bridge: Vcxel generation improved, so that it accurately aligns with the connection surface
  • Ore storage tower level art has been finished
  • Normal maps for snowy asteroid rocks have been adjusted
  • Sharp XL asteroid rocks have been made
  • Asset for small control panel speaker and small signal baton have been created
  • Lifeline icons have been updated

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • New instruction terminals added to all Mining Job workstations:
    Issue with the screens being destructible by players was fixed, now all screens are static and indestructible
  • Ship blueprint feature for fixing ships on the go is under design
  • Economy design: plans for in-depth material value overhaul is being worked on
  • Economy configurations made for the newly added stations
  • Resource systems conversion components have been checked on, design for simplified system for
  • inventory integration is being investigated
  • Changes made to the group and company chat notifications design: everyone in group/company now have identical group chat log
  • Furnace design is being worked on
Stations
  • New Kingdom outpost station is being worked on
  • Proving Grounds station has been finished and added to the universe
  • Medium Hall 18 added into Lot Designer
Spaceships
  • Modified blueprints created from Spatha, Knight and Wing, without cables and pipes:
    These can be used in the Demolition Job
  • Generator button issue in Remus has been fixed, buttons would not work correctly due to difference in their "OnStateValue"
  • Anubis has been added to the pre-made ship list in Spaceship Designer
Spaceship Designer
  • Updates to the Spaceship Designer Asset browser have been made:
    New folder called "Hardpoints": hardpoints are now in this folder
    Turrets folder is now called "Weapons": this folder consists of only weapon parts now
    New machinery sub-folder created, called "Utility": fixed mounts, turntables, cradles and robot arms now under this folder
    Generator folder is now called "Power": battery is now located here
    Furnace folder has been renamed to "Tools": Tractor Beam, Utility Body, Utility ammo have been moved to this folder
    Interactables folder is now called "Controls": Progress bars, Text Panel, Panel base, FCUs and MFC are now under this folder
    YOLOL: YOLOL rack parts are now in this folder
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Gas converter not being detected by the box thruster even when placed properly has been fixed
  • An issue where lamps in lots not being buildable due to material consumption issues has been fixed
  • Thrusters can no longer generate propellant
  • Ship recovery cost now takes ship's carried material value into account
  • Asteroids now have a larger loading range of 200m (from 12m), a bug where asteroids wouldn't occasionally load has been fixed
  • Station lots no longer reload when finishing building the blueprint
  • Issue fixed in resource network calculations that caused a part of the network to advance very slowly and seemingly not consume some resources at all
  • Recovering ships that are hosted by a player has been allowed
  • Issue with grab, release and blocked -highlights not showing up when blocked by a LOD model has been fixed
  • Ship chair quick-bind system has been revised to fix an issue with constant resetting
User Interface
  • Item collection tooltips now show the name of the collection if it has been named
  • Warning triangles and flashing error messages have been added to item shop when chosen item cannot be bought
  • Inspect CV window not showing rank insignia of the inspected player has been fixed
  • An issue where company invites were not always showing the Company name has been fixed
  • Received and sent group invites now show up in Social tab group page UI
  • A bug where objects ended up in the world when trying to drag to a slot that doesn't allow it has been fixed
  • Support added for inclusion of basic hardware statistics in Feedback tool's reports
Audio
  • Movement sound volume adjustment has been fixed
  • Audio feedback for approaching, entering and leaving safe zone and snap mode toggle in grabbing tools has been plugged in
  • Support added for feedback sounds on unsuccessful firing of bolt tool
  • Support added for reloadable tools to indicate shortage of bullets by audio
Spaceship Designer
  • Saving blueprints with an existing name has been prevented
  • Autosave reliability has been improved: autosave must now be manually recovered from the File context menu
  • An issue where using the rotate or move tool could cause the editor to become unresponsive has been fixed
  • An issue where loading a premade ship blueprint and saving the current scene caused nothing to save has been fixed
  • Generated ship LOD models appearing in incorrect rotations and positions has been fixed
Planets and Moons
  • Range finder device not detecting moon surfaces has been fixed
  • Optimizations to improve the moon noisemap baking efficiency are being worked on
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations
  • Pipe Tool rig has been made
  • Reload animation has been made for the Welding Tool (3rd person)
  • Transition animation for activating the Universal Tool during crouch with pickaxe equipped has been made
  • Transition animation made for activating the Universal Tool during crouch with pistol equipped
  • Issues with arms incorrectly holding the pickaxe when in hammer mode or when moving when in prone position have been fixed (3rd person)
  • New emote animations are being worked on
Stations
  • Unnecessary geometry with flipped normals has been fixed in station_base_ramp_108x216x216
  • The exterior LODs for Marketplace's "Back Alley" have been updated
  • The hallways' farLOD model and texture maps in Empire Spaceship Design Workshop (Large) have been updated
  • Irrelevant warning decals have been removed from various Lot Designer modules, grid slots and decorative objects
Moons and Asteroids
  • Ice material variation for asteroids has been made
  • Two snowy material variations for asteroid rocks have been made
Other
  • Remote explosive, remote detonator and explosive pack assets with preliminary textures have been finished, ready for final texturing and gameplay implementation
  • Asset created for small control panel speaker and small signal baton
  • Lifeline icons have been made
