Surviving Mars Relaunched crashes on Steam as the strategy game's paid remaster doesn't even fix the original's flaws

Paradox Games and Haemimont Games recently released Surviving Mars Relaunched to largely middling Steam reviews, maintaining a worrying trend of titles from the publishing giant behind many of the best strategy games not quite hitting like they used to. Worse yet, the release of this remaster treads another fine line - scrubbing the original version of a product in favor of a new edition that some are finding to be virtually identical in the worst ways.

Surviving Mars: Relaunched arrives in orbit next month, bringing a whole new political system and every DLC from the get-go

When I first saw that city-builder Surviving Mars is getting a remaster, my first thought was "Isn't that a bit soon? It only launched recently." It turns out 'recently' was seven flipping years ago. That's a shorter period than between the original Resident Evil and its 2002 HD edition. Truly, my ability to measure the passage of time has been destroyed since 2020...

Remaster of sci-fi city builder Surviving Mars locks in date for lift off and promises all-new expansions

Would you go and live on Mars, if given the opportunity? I couldn't leave my family behind, but if they were invited too, I think it'd be a fun adventure. I'm not keen on the idea of an eight-month long journey with a six-month old baby, though. Thankfully, that's why we play videogames. We can skip all the travel and the dangers of space travel and simulate the life on Mars thing on our computer screen. It's not exactly stress-free, but Surviving Mars significantly reduces the danger. As one of the best city building games and colony sims out there, I can't wait to head back to the red planet in Surviving Mars Relaunched, which has just announced a release date and all-new expansions.
