Deceit v2021.2.0 - Game Mode Update & Birthday Event

In this update we celebrate four years of Deceit, and update the game mode based on the feedback you’ve given us!

[h3]Birthday[/h3]

This week we celebrate Deceit’s 4th Birthday! Thank you to everyone who has made this possible by playing and supporting us. We’re incredibly excited for what we have in store this year, and look forward to putting thousands more friendships in jeopardy... To celebrate we’ve introduced a small collection of cosmetics into the Loot Booth for a limited time:

[h3]Day Time Objectives[/h3]
  • Items now freely spawn across the floor without assignment: 18 in the first area, 12 in the second, and 6 in the third.
  • Players can claim an objective by starting it, once you have done so you must complete it before moving on to the next.
  • Players are limited to claiming a set amount of objectives per floor: 3 in the first area, 2 in the second, and 1 in the third.
  • Players can view what items have been spawned, and what items are remaining, by using the ‘Q’ interface to view the minimap.


[h3]Night Time[/h3]
  • Generators now spawn across the map, power them at night to bring the lights back on and progress to the next area.
  • Generators take a short 4 seconds to fix and give power. The amount of power required to turn on the lights is based on the area and players alive.
  • The Terrors have had their health & speed reduced to account for these changes.


[h3]Minimap[/h3]
Whilst making your way around the maps, it is often frustrating to communicate with your teammates where you are, and it’s difficult to know where you’re meant to be going. To address this, we’ve revamped the minimap you see whilst pressing Q. Previously, this Q menu just showed a static, unlabeled image of the map which wasn’t all too useful. Today’s update brings a dynamic, information-rich map that is your go-to help you figure out your way to escaping (or stopping the innocents in their tracks!).


[h3]Voting[/h3]
  • After starting a vote players will only be able to vote on the player that was downed, rather than both that player & the player that started the vote.
  • The required amount of votes to eliminate someone is based on the area, or the number of players remaining, whichever is lower.
  • Unchanged: In the Casual queue, you must interact with the body to trigger a vote, and all players can then vote from their HUD. This interaction can be interrupted if you take damage. In Custom games you can choose between this and shoot-to-vote.


[h3]Ranked[/h3]
  • The ‘shoot to vote’ option is now default in the ranked game mode.

[h3]Gunplay[/h3]
  • Aiming Down Sights (‘ADS’) has been dramatically improved, bringing new animations and several Quality of Life features.
  • A setting has been added for adjusting your Mouse Sensitivity when in ADS.
  • Reloading whilst holding ‘RMB’ will now correctly put you back into ADS at the end of the reload.
  • Pressing ‘RMB’ whilst sprinting will now cause you to stop sprinting and enter ADS, instead of requiring you to manually let go of ‘Shift’.
  • Waypoints are now translucent, instead of removed, when in ADS to enable players to see new waypoints that are popping up (for example when doing the target objective).
  • Players no longer drastically react when hit by bullets, causing them to distort and becoming momentarily harder to hit.
  • [FIXED] The gun doesn’t line up with the center of the screen for Female characters that are ADSing. This caused bullets to go higher than where you were aiming.


[h3]Movement Speed[/h3]
  • To improve the pace of the game and create more tension at night we have added a stamina system.
  • Whilst running you will over time lose energy, when your energy is depleted you will still be able to sprint but slower.
  • Stop sprinting to regenerate your energy over time.
  • Make sure you’re saving your energy at night to get away from Terrors.
  • To account for these changes, terrors are now slower.


[h3]Maps[/h3]
  • Each map has had more cover added to them, these can be used effectively in hiding from one another
  • The Lumberyard has been reduced in size, to bring it more aligned with other maps.
  • The bathroom has been removed from the ground floor of the Asylum.
  • A large number of consumable and blood bag spawns have been moved.
  • Fuse boxes now spawn in fixed locations.


[h3]Win Condition[/h3]
Innocent can now get a team win if they are executed, wait until the end of the game & a fellow innocent escapes. If an Innocent is voted out they are not eligible for team win.


[h3]Patch Notes[/h3]
  • The ranked season has been reset. With the new season comes a new perk tree, bringing two new emblems to unlock.
  • Players are now instantly killed if they’re executed and there is no antidote available to be used.
  • The ‘bleeding out’ period, after being executed, has been increased to 30 seconds.
  • Added a ‘Number Of Infected’ setting for Custom Games, you can choose between 2 (default), 1 or Random (either 1 or 2). If there is only 1 Infected they’ll be given extra blood as if their partner had been eliminated.
  • The ‘Detective’ perk will now only show bounds of when blood was drunk, instead of exactly when it was drunk. The potential options that it’ll show are “less than 20 seconds ago”, “less than 40 seconds ago”, “less than a minute ago” and “over a minute ago”.
  • The Tracker now lasts 60 seconds, but the information is only shown to you.
  • The travel time on Vents has been reduced by a couple of seconds. They will also now show you the position and progress of the generators whilst in them.
  • The number of Fuse Boxes on each floor has been reduced to 5/4/3. Each Fuse Box now reduces the time by 30/25/20s per floor.
  • Players are no longer outlined to the Infected during the day if they jump or shoot. They are still outlined when sprinting.
  • If a Quick Vote fails then the player being voted on will be automatically revived.
  • Muting players and viewing what challenges you currently are progressing have both been moved to the ‘Escape’ menu.
  • Improved our tracking of game server crashes & reduced the likelihood of unexpected issues happening after a crash.
  • Players no longer have their speed significantly reduced when going up & down stairs/slopes.
  • Our translations have been updated thanks to our Community Translators.
  • [FIXED] Traps sometimes go off but only slow the Terror instead of downing it too.
  • [FIXED] The ambient audio notifying you of a Terror being nearby sometimes incorrectly fades out, despite a Terror being close.
  • [FIXED] The game doesn’t instantly end if the last Innocent escapes whilst another Innocent is bleeding out.
  • [FIXED] Players walk in a non-intended way if they’re holding a knife or are crouching with a shotgun out.

[h3]Patch Notes[/h3]
  • The Valentines mini-event has ended, removing the cosmetics from the Loot Booth & the Profile.
  • Quick Votes can now be cancelled by either reviving the player being voted on, or having the day timer run out (either naturally or by smashing a Fuse Box).
  • With the introduction of vote cancelling, the limit on how many votes can be called has been removed.
  • Character images have been added to the Quick Vote interface.
  • The last 5 seconds of the Day Period no longer stops votes from being started, or Fuse Boxes from being interacted with.
  • Discussions will now only start once everyone has voted in the Quick Vote, or the voting time runs out. If there are enough votes to eliminate a player the Discussion won't start.
  • Improved the visuals of the interaction prompt.
  • Further improved our metrics for determining why some players are unable to properly connect to games.
  • Improved how we handle our communication with Steam in order to mitigate any issues caused by Steam being under load.
  • Updated our translations thanks to the Community Translators in Discord.
  • [FIXED] The Valentines Rose melee weapons are given a blue outline to the Infected.
  • [FIXED] The in-game chat box cuts off the end of sentences.
  • [FIXED] Transforming into Terror form on top of a Trap will cause you to be a 'Terror' in Human form.
  • [FIXED] Players are able to interact with other players (voting / reviving) whilst being downed.
  • [FIXED] Re-pressing 'V' doesn't close the Quick Vote interface.
  • [FIXED] Players are presented with the Revive & Quick Vote interaction prompts before they're actually able to interact with the downed player.
  • [FIXED] After being downed, players need to re-press one of WASD in order to move again on spawn.
  • [FIXED] Pressing 'Q' interrupts channelled interactions.
  • [FIXED] Some consumable items are unable to be picked up in the Asylum.
  • [FIXED] Players are able to access areas of the map that they shouldn't be able to in the Asylum's Swimming Pool, the Lumberyard's Shower area & the Forest's final area.
  • [FIXED] Players are sometimes unable to interact with the Laptop in the Lumberyard's Shower area.

Valentine's Day Mini-Event

Hello Test Subjects!

Today we're bringing you our first ever Valentine's Day mini-event! A collection of love (and hate!) related cosmetics have been added to the loot booth, and are also purchasable from the profile page for Credits. The event will run for 1 week, ending on Friday 19th February. And that's not all, this Valentine's we're running a Double XP event until 11AM on Monday.

Patch Notes - 05.02.2021

[h3]Patch Notes[/h3]
  • Re-added some Game Master voice lines when players are taking items.
  • Traps will now be activated once they're visually placed on the floor & you've heard the priming audio. The animation length has also been reverted to the original timing, fixing the audio de-sync, but the time for the Trap to activate is the same.
  • Female characters will now correctly rotate when standing still and looking around.
  • Adjusted the connection logic to our game servers to reduce the likelihood that players fail to get past the loading screen.
  • Further improved our backend metrics to help reduce the occurrences of games failing to start. Alongside this we've also made some adjustments to reduce the frequency of this occurring based on our previous metric additions.
  • Reduced the blood gained from your Infected partner being eliminated from 1,000 -> 800.
  • You can now use the 'Q' menu to mute players, and view the current map, whilst the Infected select their partner & Terrors.
  • [FIXED] After using the antidote, or lethal, the item is placed on a hidden 1 second cooldown.
  • [FIXED] Players can very rarely use the antidote, causing it to be removed from their inventory, and have the bleeding out player not be revived.
  • [FIXED] Traps don't damage the Infected in Terror form if they were the one to place them.
  • [FIXED] Occasionally items aren't removed from the inventory after using them (for example, the Camera being left at 0% charge)
  • [FIXED] Using a Tracker when owning 2 of them will cause both to disappear.
  • [FIXED] If a player trades an item for another item, then re-collects their original item later on, they will have more ammo than intended.
  • [FIXED] Downing a player whilst they're crouched will cause them to be 'downed' but standing up.
  • [FIXED] Infected players can incorrectly sometimes gain double the intended blood for their partner being eliminated.
  • [FIXED] If the Infected level up multiple times in one go they will only get 1 execution, instead of multiple.
  • [FIXED] The map on 'Q' is incorrect until you move to a new area after waking up.
  • [FIXED] Picking up Armour at night will play your character's voice line.
  • [FIXED] Taking an item from a crate at night will play your character's voice line.
  • [FIXED] Taking someone else's item from a crate will cause your character to play their voice line.
  • [FIXED] Tasks related to using Double Objectives, or collecting items from them, don't progress.

Patch Notes - 29.01.2021

[h3]Patch Notes[/h3]
  • Reduced the delay between Camera flashes from 1.5s to 1s.
  • The Torch will now apply its first tick of damage & slowing effects when you activate it, rather than waiting for the next tick (0.25s). To counterbalance this, the initial slow & DPS applied have been reduced. Both of these values still get stronger the longer you have the Torch on for.
  • Removed the 15% damage reduction on Pistol bullets against Terrors.
  • Terrors will now take longer to speed up after being affected by Light items, providing more opportunities for players to slow them and then escape.
  • Increased the blood you gain on the final floor when downing an Innocent whilst in Terror Form from 150 to 200.
  • In order to provide more opportunities for the Infected to transform and wreak havoc at night, it now takes 3s to capture each tick of a Power Point (up from 2.5s). Furthermore, the amount of power you gain per tick has been adjusted to elongate the night period whilst there are a lot of players alive, and to speed it up significantly if there have been a lot of eliminations.
  • Increased the maximum number of Pistol bullets that you can carry to 45.
  • Made some adjustments to the connection process to the game in order to minimise the chance that players are unable to connect, causing the game to fail to start.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause players to occasionally reach a never-ending loading screen..
  • Improved the performance of the Lumberyard map.
  • All of the targets for the Target Practice objective have been adjusted to make it easier to hit all 3 without delay.
  • Updated the Pin Entry objective visuals in certain maps.
  • Added some extra objectives to the Forest to reduce the likelihood of receiving the same one back-to-back.
  • Added some new tasks for daily challenges, including completing the new objectives and collecting power from the power points.
  • Daily challenges will now auto-activate when they’re given out, provided you have slots available to do so.
  • Added a custom game option to allow Innocents to communicate at night.
  • Added a custom game option to disable perks.
  • Added a custom game option to disable selecting your infected partner and instead make it random.
  • Reset the ranked season. Due to the Perk Tree being added very recently, your points and perks won’t be reset until the end of the next season (scheduled for the 25th of February).
  • [FIXED] Occasionally the Forest map will turn dark after a player has been executed.
  • [FIXED] Players don’t always look like they’re facing the direction that they’re aiming in.
  • [FIXED] The Pistol doesn’t animate when you shoot, reload or draw it.
  • [FIXED] The on-hover Challenge information in the in-game ‘Q’ menu is hidden behind the minimap.
