Terror Updates

Hey Everyone,

This Friday the 15th we are not only releasing our Christmas event we are also doing some big changes to the core gameplay.

It’s no secret that behind the scenes we’re always working on things we think will make Deceit even more fun. Today we’re sharing our current plan for revamping the way Terror’s work – feel free to share your feedback below.
In a series of previous updates we expanded the arsenal of the innocent players with a significantly improved inventory system allowing them to utilise more items quickly and effectively. Following that we added new items and changed the usage of old ones to cultivate different play styles, this ultimately gave rise to our light and darkness update that has shaped Deceit into the game it is today. Now we’re transforming the game again as we follow a similar path for the Terror.

Instead of one terror form we’ll be making a variety of unique monsters, each with their own visual style, special abilities and stats. Our aim is to launch this with the classic terror (Experiment), a fully fleshed out Yeti and the DLC Werewolf. Overall despite their unique nature our aim is to provide more content for users who have not paid for additional DLC and tune any paid content to be different and not stronger. It’s important to us that no user feel they are required to play a specific monster and instead plays around with what they feel they enjoy and works best for them, pride and accomplishment is from playing the game not paying the game.

Disclaimers aside, here are the changes to the terrors:

Each of the terrors has its own unique active ability and each of them have different health and speed stats makes them all their own gameplay experience. These abilities are available as soon as a player transforms into terror form and once used they have a cool down before they can be used again.

Experiment (Classic Terror)
The Experiment is our all-rounder a good balance of speed and survivability. Its active ability is one designed with utility in mind that will help when trying to engage innocents or escape from them.

Active: Decoy – A clone of the Experiment rips out it and runs straight forward for 5 seconds. If the clone is damaged or its 5 second life span is reached the decoy is destroyed and it produces a thick cloud of smoke to obscure other players view.

Yeti
The Yeti is the tank terror, he is slower than the others but can take more punishment. Its active doubles down on this.

Active: Frozen Fury – The Yeti creates frosty armour and becomes invulnerable to both physical and light damage but it will also reduce his speed for a for a few seconds.

Werewolf
The Werewolf is our assassin terror, very fast but also fragile so engagements with the innocent must be carefully considered. But its Active helps balance the fragility a little by disorientating innocents.

Active: Outcry – The Werewolf unleashes and blood curdling howl that causes all human characters within its radius to become confused and their vision is blurred for a few seconds.

Terror select
Terrors are selected at the start of a game, upon waking up infected players will have 15 seconds to choose a terror from the new terror menu accessed by pressing the Transform key.

And finally, each of the two new terror types have their own unique skins each fitting within the themes, the Ape like Yeti and the Canine Werewolf.

Also if you had already unlocked the Yeti skin we are giving you a couple of items to replace it, a unique yeti terror emblem and its value in GM credits.

Hold on for hats, jump in for jumpers and come claim some coal – For this event, all you need to do is play! As you earn experience you’ll also be given special points based on whether you’re naughty (infected) or nice (innocent) which will take players down two unique paths of unlocks new to Deceit.

Community Update – Remains of Halloween, patch preview future plans

Hey everyone,

As the Halloween event draws to a close and the candy coloured dust settles, I wanted to let you in on what we’ve been up to, some of the changes for Monday’s end of event patch, and share some vague details of what we’re working on over the next few months.

Firstly, as many users will know, over the last couple of weeks our technical team have released a number of server side updates addressing user volume and server stability. As of the last round of changes, we’re confident that we’ve covered the former and are keeping a close eye on the later. In the wake of over a quarter of a million new users it’s been an interesting challenge but most importantly it’s exciting to welcome all the new members of the community and interact with each of you as you get to grips with Deceit. I’m expecting to put out a post going into more depth on this topic relatively soon.

(Pre)Monday Motivation
On Monday, we’ll be ending the Halloween event meaning all Halloween tokens will be converted into normal tokens, candy will be removed from the map and Halloween points can no longer be earned making all rewards final. For players close to their next reward we’ve made things a little easier; we’re providing double experience gains for the remainder of the event meaning over the weekend you’ll be able to earn and spend more tokens generating significantly more Halloween points for your last chance at this year’s rewards.

Alongside the close of the event we’re fixing some high priority issues, adding a few hotly requested features and making some less than subtle balance tweaks which should up the ante once more. As with every patch we’ll post the full patch notes on the day but I’d like to share some highlights which I know will resonate with many members of the community.

  • The game now opens in 720p windowed mode for new users
  • Added chat to the End Game Summary screen
  • Fixed a bug where you could use the inspection kit multiple times
  • You can no longer use text/voice chat when bleeding out
  • Relocated some blood bags in the forest and arctic map

Fishing for feedback

This patch has been largely shaped by user feedback so it’s important to us that you keep it coming. We read every topic, discord message, direct message, tweet, visitor post and review and it’s important to us to have so many users involved, making sure we can shuffle around our priorities to work on things that matter to you most.

With so many users around the globe I’d like to extend a special shout out to the admins of various community pages who’ve helped us with hearing voices from different regions such as KaizerZ from the Thai community and Lui from the Chinese community. Without the help of so many altruistic individuals and our community translators our work would be significantly more difficult.

Patch to the future

In addition to continuing to squash bugs and tweak gameplay, we’re focussing on some larger points of interest for the game over the next few months which we’d like to share. It’s important to remember that none of this has a specific date and it is currently mostly conceptual. Please do not flood us with requests for further details as we will provide them when they are available to provide.

  • Among our top priorities right now is anti-cheat integration, we’re testing a few different solutions internally and looking at the best ways to punish users such as integration of Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC).
  • Our environment team have been discussing and drawing up the initial conceptual stages of a new map, a key part of this is reviewing how the gameplay in the three existing maps works and what users find to be the most fun and engaging. This entire process is likely to take a few months at the least but we’ll share some more information on this when it’s available.
  • We’ve received a huge amount of positive feedback around the Halloween event so we’re discussing how to make an even better Christmas/Winter event and give all of our fans something to look forward to over the holiday season.
