What’s next for Northgard?

Ohoi Vikings!

We’re working hard on Northgard and you can expect a ton of new changes this year. Keep in mind this roadmap is mostly tentative, hence why no dates will be revealed as of today.
But enough talk, here is what you came for
Northgard in 2023

[h2]The near future[/h2]
Our next update is the annual major balancing patch. It is coming in the next month or so but it is not exclusively balancing that it will be bringing to the game.

Before expanding the game further, it was important for us to focus on some of the more pressing matters that have been brought to our attention over the last few months. With that, this is some of what the next update will include:

- A rework of a number of clans and relics
- Redesign of the base game warchiefs.
- New unique conquests for some DLC clans (more news coming soon)
- The spectator mode that you can already try in open beta. Link to the announcement here



[h2]Coming this year[/h2]
[h3]A new kingdom will reveal itself[/h3]
Born from the events of the recent campaign DLC, a new clan from the southern kingdom will join our vikings. They will bring with them other needed reworks and should arrive around the end of summer
[h3]Other vikings arrive on our shores [/h3]
For the end of the year, another viking clan will arrive and shake up/freshen up the gameplay to provide new and fun ways to play the game.

[h2]What else? [/h2]
Those are the big updates of the year, and as usual we’ll continue to update and improve the game based on your feedback. Thank you for being a part of this adventure on Northgard, the spectator mode is one of the most popular demands since launch, and one that we are glad we've had the opportunity to implement and we hope we’ll be able to give you even more going forward!

Spectator Mode: Open Beta

Hey guys!

As it has been one of your long time request, we decided to work on a spectator mode for Northgard
Here is all the info you need to help us test this addition to the game


Spectator mode

This addition to Northgard will allow one spectator to join the game. As such, this new role will give them access to different options. That way it will be easier to follow what’s happening for every player.



[h2]CHOOSE YOUR POINT OF VIEW[/h2]
The spectator mode will allow you to switch between each player and see their gameplay. You will also be able to activate an “omniscient view” that will allow you to see the map beyond the scouted zone.

[h2]REAL TIME RESOURCES[/h2]
With the options “Resources” and “Military”, you will be able to see how everyone advances and what they are focusing on. That way it will be easy to notice the lack of one player against another.

[h2]STATS AND UI[/h2]
You will be able to follow every stat during the game but you will also be able to hide UI to have a more cinematic view of the action.

[h2]OTHER DETAILS[/h2]
-The spectator mode is made to accept one spectator, you can talk in the lobby but not during the game.
-You can spectate an already started game.

HOW do I access the Open Beta:

1. Right click on Northgard in your Steam Library.
2. Select Properties, then the Beta Tab.
3. Enter the password - bonjourbonsoir
4. Select open-beta in the drop down.
5. Download the update and launch the game.

Cross of Vidar: Epilogue | Available now!

The saga reaches its epilogue

With the release of the epilogue, the Cross of Vidar campaign reaches its conclusion. You can now battle your way through mission 9 and 10 and complete this epic story.
[h3]Clan of the Lion[/h3]
With this release, the clan of the Lion is now available to play in multiplayer ranked games.
[h3]Clan of the Dragon[/h3]
The warchief of the clan of the Dragon is now Surtr following the events of the Cross of Vidar.
You can still find the previous warchief skin as an optional skin in the Treasures.

  • Made the secondary objectives hidden until completing the mission once.
  • Minor UI rework
  • Sheep have been added to some missions (best change ever)
  • Fixed the AI
  • Specific music is now played during each mission
[h3]Mission 6[/h3]
  • Minor map rework to make mission objectives clearer
  • Second phase has been reworked and rebalanced to propose a higher level of challenge
[h3]Mission 7[/h3]
  • Enemy AI now periodically sends reinforcements to zones it already controls.
  • Enemy tiles are decolonized faster
[h3]Mission 8[/h3]
  • Added +20 relationship toward the Dwarves at the start to avoid being in bad relations when colonizing zones near them
  • Minor map rework
  • Reworked the boss fight UI
  • Reworked SFX for the boss fight

[h2]Bugfixes[/h2]
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Added 3D models for the fishermen
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Operative Dwarves doesn’t count in the livability
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Fixed multiple UI
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Can upgrade a tile without having all building slot used
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Repair a building doesn’t add livability
  • Kingdom of the Lion : Save Vedrfolnir give faith
  • Operative Dwarves : Fixed their forge to work as usual
  • Rig’s saga : Fixed mission 11 to not break events when saving
  • Clan of the Kraken : “Near the Sea” does not produce Krowns during the mission “greed Price”
  • Clan of the Boar : Fixed Hvedrung model to not show a horn below it
  • Ceremonial Bonfire : Fixed trades to consume wood
  • Fixed woodcutter idle animation
  • Fixed some localization issues

We’re very proud to present to you all the long awaited second campaign for Northgard, The Cross of Vidar

Cross of Vidar is a new expansion for the world of Northgard, pushing the boundaries of the viking clans to reach a new civilization, the Southern Kingdoms.

Alongside the new campaign this expansion includes a new faction: The Kingdom of the Lion, so prepare yourself to forge new alliances and clash with new rivals!

[h2]The Cross of Vidar Campaign[/h2]
The new campaign takes place a few years after the end of the previous story: Ragnarök has ravaged the land of Northgard, threatening our clans’ survival. In a desperate move, a few of them will begin a journey in hopes of finding a new home. There, they will meet new characters, get involved in a series of conflicts and alliances, and take part in a quest for the three swords that are said to hold the power to put an end to Ragnarök.

The new campaign consists of 8 new missions, unique gameplay twists and a new story to uncover centered around both returning and new protagonists.
On January the 19th the Epilogue for the campaign will be released for free to all owners of the campaign and will add 2 additional missions to conclude the epic story of the cross of vidar.

[h2]The Southern Kingdoms[/h2]
Introduced in this campaign is a new civilisation, entirely different from vikings, with their own traditions, technologies, and culture: The Southern Kingdoms.

[h3]Features[/h3]
  • Southern Kingdoms have their own set of unique buildings, and unique units.
  • Their buildings evolve in different forms, with different effects.
  • They do not use Lore but Faith instead.
  • They have some specific Knowledge, and Blessings are replaced with Vows.
  • They cannot use Lorestones, Circle of Stones or other Viking artifacts to produce Lore, but can use them to produce more Kröwns or Faith.
  • The Chapel is your main building. It spawns new subjects, your base unit.
  • Subjects produce Faith instead of Food.
  • Buildings have no builder nor worker limit, but you can only assign additional workers if the Livability in the zone is sufficient.
  • Workers in a zone with 8 Livability or more have a +30% production bonus and +10% bonus population growth.
  • The Chapel protects all subjects in its zone from the cold and feeds them until winter comes. It also heals units assigned to it.
  • Building upgrades cost less Stone. It is not necessary to upgrade the Chapel first.
  • Feasts give +2 Happiness and apply Prosperity to all of your zones.
  • Military units can be upgraded with different military upgrades.
  • They have their own relics, different from the viking ones.


[h2]The Kingdom of the Lion[/h2]
The first playable of the southern kingdoms is the new Kingdom of the Lion. A kingdom focused on religious and military means.

[h3]Start-with[/h3]
  • Zones with military camps gain +1 Livability.
  • Killing a foe generates Faith if Hildegard takes part in the fight.
  • Military units can be recruited using Faith instead of Kröwns.

[h3]Fame 200: Religious Processions[/h3]
  • Feasts cost 3% less for each acquired Knowledge and Vow.
  • Each military camp in a zone with Prosperity gives a +5% attack bonus to the associated units.

[h3]Fame 500: Rise of the Twelve Peers[/h3]
  • You can evolve Monks into Paladins for a cost in Faith.
  • Paladins can be assigned a Relic and carry it with them, including into enemy territory.
  • Relics require no building slot.

[h3]Knowledge[/h3]
  • Steelwork
    • Each military building in a zone with an active Smithy provides a +5% defense bonus to the associated units.
  • Ost
    • Your next Sentry Camp upgrade is free.
    • Military XP gains are increased by 15%.
  • Marchfield
    • Military upgrades unlock faster and have a higher chance to trigger.
  • Chanson de Geste
    • Killing mystical creatures generates Faith
  • Miraculous Healing
    • Religious buildings slowly heal units within their zones.

[h3]Relic: Lance of Longinus[/h3]
  • Clan units who died within the Lance's zone can be revived in exchange for Faith.

Rat Infestation event
  • Rats now target houses and reduce Food production in the zone. Silos and upgraded Foraging Posts protect the zone against the infestation.
UI
  • Buildings placement on the construction panel has been changed.
  • Several texts have been corrected.

[h3]Bugfix[/h3]
  • Pathfinding issues have been resolved.
  • When a tower is attacked on a Landvidi zone, it now displays the units attacking the tower.
  • When a special Townhall has already been unlocked by completing a Conquest, the notification for unlocking it is no longer displayed.
  • It is no longer possible to transfer a tool or relic being forged to an ally by transferring the forge building.
  • Spike Barricade now correctly appears on all zones.
  • Helheim Invasion event now works correctly.
  • It is no longer possible to open several building panels at once.
  • It is no longer possible to send Food without assigned Merchants in Campaign 1 - Mission 7
  • Mining progression is now correctly displayed.
  • Damages inflicted by Kraken final Conquest bonus have been reworked.
  • Thralls no longer gather more Food in a zone with a Silo if they are not assigned to a Food production building.
  • Names can now be changed in Creative Mode.
  • Several value roundings adjustments.
