Game Balance
General
Rating Decay
- Players rated 2600+ who have not played a ranked game in 2+ weeks will decay 10 rating points per day. This will help keep the top of the ladder representative of the currently-active best players.

Classic
- Blitz and Ordered Chaos special modes are now less likely to show up as a hot mode & randomly selected mode. A new Classic mode coming next patch, and another one soon (TM) after that!
Legion Spells
Investment
- Income: +33 → +32

Loan
- Income: -33 → -32

Shifting power from Investment to Loan.

Pawn Shop
- Gold: +70 → +65

Very high pick rate.

Protector
- Regeneration: 0.8% → 0.7%

Very high pick rate.
Fighters

Balance Watchlist
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If anything is being more closely monitored than usual, it will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:

Game length

Over the last few months, average game length has increased by 1 minute. We ran an in-game poll asking ranked players their thoughts, and from thousands of responses, here are the results:
  • Happy with game length: 66.6%
  • Want longer games: 21.6%
  • Want shorter games: 11.8%

One interesting result was that preferences vary by rank. Bronze-Expert players (97% of players) prefer longer games, and Master+ players (3% of players) prefer shorter games. Good news is that at every single rank, most players are happy with average game length.

Mid & late game workers

In some game states, it's not rewarding enough to push workers in the mid and late game. We're evaluating systemic changes to fix this, but to avoid breaking the game near the end of the season, it's best to wait until the Season 2024 patch in January.

Chaos

From a game balance point of view, Chaos has a reasonable pick rate and win rate, comparable to Cartel, Cash Out, Greed, Yolo, and Fiesta. However, some top-ranked players have expressed concern with the more RNG nature of Chaos. We're still gathering feedback and considering changes.

Improvements & Fixes
Improvements
• Pulverizer now more consistently shows its VFX/SFX, even if the unit died when the stun hit. Also made the VFX a bit louder.
Fixes
• Fixed a bug in the Leaderboards tab where the Divine leaderboard was missing (as a dropdown item in the Level leaderboard)
  • Fixed a bug in Spectator mode where emotes didn't work for spectators other than the first slot
  • Fixed a bug on low resolutions (e.g. Steamdeck) where the in-game King Upgrade panel was covered up by the bottom-left HUD panel (mercenary icons/autosend indicator)
  • Added emote animation types (horizontal shake, rubberband, etc) to localization spreadsheets

Closing Remarks

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Halloween weekend! With this update, we are excited to introduce new units to the game! The goal of Pirate Skeleton is to bring the fun of Grarl to more openings & strategies. Spectral Scallywag brings built-in synergy with Pirate Skeleton in that its ability is quite strong early-game. It also has late-game scaling potential with its dodge + max health mechanics.

Thank you again for playing Legion TD 2! We hope you continue to enjoy the game.

If you've enjoyed the game, but haven't left a review yet, please consider posting a short (hopefully positive ) review for the game! If the game reaches 90% positive, Steam will give it more visibility = more players = more freelo better matchmaking!

If you enjoy these updates, please give it a Thumbs Up, too!

And as always, if you have constructive criticism, let's chat about it. Discord and /r/LegionTD2 on reddit are our main channels of communication, and aside from the development team, there are community helpers who can ensure your feedback is heard, as well as answer pretty much anything you've ever wanted to know about the game. If you want a guaranteed answer from the devs, the monthly AMAs on /r/LegionTD2 are your best bet.

Sincerely,
The Legion TD 2 Team

Team Sign-up Instructions
  • Sign-ups are open from NOW until October 21 9am PST / 6pm CEST.
  • To sign up, find a teammate and form a party. After you're both in the party, have one player type "/signup [team name]" (e.g. /signup Snail Kings) in chat. You should see a confirmation message that your sign-up went through. For those who participated in previous Nova Cups, you no longer need to do /join to signup.
  • The first 16 teams to sign up in each division can participate. Other teams are waitlisted. There are usually no-shows, so waitlisted teams are encouraged to be present in the Discord and ready to play. View the team list to see your sign-up position and division.
  • If there are more than 32 teams checked in, there will be an additional best-of-1 qualifying round to allow more teams to participate. It is a best-of-1, rather than a best-of-3, to keep the event from running overly long.
  • Both players must join the Legion TD 2 Official Tournament Discord. Make sure to set your server nickname to match your in-game name.
Solo Sign-ups
  • You may sign-up as a solo with a suggested team name using the "/signup [team name]" command. Solo teams will be added to the Public Teams list, then be formed into teams on the day of the tournament. Solo teams will be randomly assigned a team name from either of its members.
  • If there is a waitlist, team sign-ups will always take priority over solo sign-ups
  • If you sign up as a solo, but then you find a teammate, you can re-sign up as a team any time before check-ins start. Just use the /signup command again with the new teammate. The tournament organizer will void your old solo signup after they process your new team signup.
  • After check-ins are over, all checked-in solo players will be randomly formed into teams by the tournament organizer. You cannot request a specific teammate at this point; if you want to play with a specific person, you should have signed up as a team instead.
It is still strongly recommended to sign-up as a team to guarantee your spot in the tournament and to give you time to practice with your teammate beforehand.

Schedule

Saturday, October 21
  • Check-in window: 8:45 - 9:15am PDT / 5:45 - 6:15pm CEST
  • Games: 10am - 1:30pm PST / 7 - 10:30pm CEST
    • Round of 16 (Best of 3)
    • Quarter-finals (Best of 3)
Sunday, October 22
  • Check-in window: 9 - 9:30am PDT / 6 - 6:30pm CEST
  • Games: 10am - 1:30pm PST / 7 - 10:30pm CEST
    • Semi-finals (Best of 3)
    • Final (Best of 5)
Check-in
  • Teams must check in via the Legion TD 2 Official Tournament Discord. Waitlisted teams should also check in.
  • Any team that fails to check in will be disqualified. The next team on the waitlist that checked in will earn a spot.

Game Format

The custom game room creator should enable Tournament Mode in the room. This will ensure the following settings:
  • 2v2
  • Mastermind only
  • Hybrid disabled
Division 1 & 2 Only
- Conquest rules apply. (Once you win with a Mastermind playstyle, you can't use that playstyle again for that series)

Game Balance
General
King
- Damage decreased by 33%
- Lightning Hammer: Percent health damage: 4% → 6%
- Upgrade attack: 7% → 10%
- Now smarter about targeting in certain circumstances

This brings the king closer to pre-tenacity levels; it is now slightly stronger against huge leaks. Also, upgrading the king is stronger.

Recommended Fighter Value
- Formula adjusted to weight mythium more

This should be more accurate particularly at higher mythium counts.
Legion Spells
Glacial Touch
- Damage: 50 → 45
- Percent slow: 90% → 95%
- Percent slow against bosses: 90% → 80%

Shifting power from AOE to slow, and nerfing against bosses.
Fighters
Dwarf Banker / Big Wig
- Attack speed: 0.92 → 0.94

Low win rate and pick rate.

Violet
- Lightning Strike: Damage 80 + 0.15% max health → 85 + 0.15% max health

Small nudge to make Violet more rewarding.

Infiltrator / Orchid
- No longer count as ranged after arming with shurikens

Gateguard / Harbinger
- Chaos Hound / Cerberus: Attack speed: 1.04 → 1.02

High win rate and pick rate.

Butcher
- Health: 1310 → 1340

Head Chef
- Health: 3670 → 3750

Low win rate and pick rate. Longer games indirectly nerfed Butcher and Head Chef.

APS / MPS
- Attack speed: 1.32 → 1.27

High win rate and pick rate. Longer games indirectly buffed APS and MPS.

Whitemane
- Health: 4550 → 4500
- Damage: 179 → 177

High win rate and pick rate. Longer games indirectly buffed Whitemane.

Soul Gate / Hell Gate
- Healing reduction: -50% → -60%

Gates are in a good spot, but still a bit oppressive with healing.
Waves
Wave 8: Kobras
- Attack speed: 1.563 → 1.538

Wave 9: Carapaces
- Attack speed: 1.504 → 1.527

Shifting power from wave 8 to 9.

Wave 14: Killer Slugs
- Attack speed: 1.19 → 1.2

Wave 15: Quadrapuses
- Health: 2230 → 2210
- Giant Quadrapus: Health: 8920 → 8840

Shifting power from wave 15 to 14.
Misc. Balance
Blitz (Classic Mode)
- Build phase game speed slowed a bit: 1.7x to 1.3x → 1.6x to 1.0x

In response to feedback that players didn't have enough time to build.
Balance Watchlist
The dev team is constantly monitoring game balance, between looking at data and listening to community feedback. If specific units/spells are being more closely monitored than usual, they will be listed in this Balance Watchlist section. For this patch, the following are on the watchlist:
  • Dwarf Banker / Big Wig, especially in Classic
  • King balance
  • Summoners
  • Healers
  • Ramping units
Improvements & Fixes
Major Improvements
Card Trader Overstocking
Now can stock duplicates of cards! This makes it easier to collect your favorite cards whenever they are overstocked. Additionally, Weekly Quests now give 1x Card Trader Reroll each!
Minor Improvements
• New Emoji: JULES (Screenshot)
  • Hovering a player’s rank in the loading screen or postgame screen now shows their rank name & elo range (Screenshot)
  • Added a little bit more grace period for deploying/upgrading fighters the moment before a wave starts (total wave time is unadjusted; this is just a cosmetic change that displays the timer slightly ahead of “actual” time)
  • Emotes are now enabled for Spectators, though their emotes will be visible to only other Spectators. This mainly affects the Nova Cup casts.
Fixes
• Fixed a UI issue where the Match Found popup would be mistakenly displayed in the loading screen
  • Fixed a bug where players who had a newly earned Weekly Quest were unable to reconnect to a game in progress
  • Fixed a few minor bugs with the ping wheel (“wants to send”) on Wave 21 displaying the wrong text/sound
  • Fixed a bug where Game Coach mistakenly warned you about being overbuilt on Wave 18 or later
  • Fixed a bug where Pack Rat Treasure Hunt wasn’t considered an opening for Masteries
