Angeldust v2.22 release notes

Here's the list of changes in Angeldust v2.22:

Depth charge

Ever felt like the Angeldust game world was lacking in depth? Meet 'ambient occlusion' (AO) that accentuates contours and edges. Check this animation of moebius' new build with and without AO:

Ambient occlusion dials up the realism and visual impact of Angeldust to eleven. It's enabled on all operating systems, devices and PlayAngeldust.com so your buildings look sharp everywhere!

umop apisdn (upside down)

Stairs no longer form weird shapes in places where you don't want them. Instead they will now form upside-down slopes that follow predictable lines. Finally you can build nice roofs like these:

Music for your plants

A few updates we introduced being able to discover and plant trees. Now you can finally give them a proper welcome. Column blocks will now taper to accommodate trees above. Music. For your plants:

Why the long face?

OK, one more quick building improvement: panel blocks on top of thin blocks will now stretch downwards. Make windowsills, tall windows and more never-before-seen stuff:

All are welcome

Angeldust now also (finally) supports registering a new account right from within the game. As of writing, more than one thousand players have already created an account this way. Welcome!

Speak to me

Players now must choose a language upon entering Angeldust for the first time. You can also see the new user interface style here. All major elements are now decorated and animated like paper scrolls:

Weapon of choice

Filtering. Yes. Quickly find the block you're looking for in both your inventory and the shop. Choose a color or block type and you're off. Use the E/F keys on a keyboard or D-pad up/down on a game controller:

The paper scroll decorations in scrollable lists are clickable for actually scrolling. Handy!

Bean counting

The in-game announcements for discovering creatures, materials, trees and more now all feature numerical counters so you know how much stuff you can still discover (this screenshot shows the old visual style):

But we didn't stop here. There's now a full-fledged in-game progress overview, accessible from the telecharger:

… we found 'mute' and we're happy

Steam users rejoice—you can finally mute your hero. It's been a long time coming since the Steam Greenlight days, but it's finally here:

Text me!

There's a bunch of major features without cool screenshots. On Steam/desktop platforms (Windows / Mac / Linux) Angeldust will now default to normal instead of huge text size and enable smooth rotation for nicer visuals on high-FPS systems. You can now also somewhat use the tab-key to navigate form fields.

On all platforms Angeldust will now lay out text much better to prevent crossing user interface element boundaries. Long text is now automatically scaled down to fit. A small tweak, but very welcomed.

Speaking of text, you can now copy chat log contents to the system clipboard using a button. Pretty useful in plenty of occasions!

We've also simplified the Angeldust Terms of Use and stopped sending account activation e-mails to new players. Just enjoy the game!

Angeldust v2.21 release notes

Here's the list of changes in Angeldust v2.21:

TL;DR

Here's the Angeldust v2.21 trailer showing all major changes in glorious 1080p60:

Shades of Blue

Water looks even better now in Angeldust. With specular highlights, rolling waves and soft reflections you can dive right in!

Cloud Nine

Angeldust now has dynamic clouds gently floating by, contracting and expanding during rainfall and snowfall. Lie down in the grass with a friend and just watch the shapes come and go.

Clouds are reflected in the water and ice. Which makes them look really nice.

Fine Texture

Most materials in the game have been retextured to better connect with other materials and colors. Everything now just fits together:

The multicolored 'detailed' visual style is now default. All players will see your builds exactly like you envisioned them:

Old Crafts

Do you like outdated games? Dial the 'old-fashioned' option up a notch. 2009 just called. They want their blocky pixels back.

New Blocks

There's 55 new blocks in Angeldust v2.21. Reds, pinks and purples. There are only 50 new blocks this image, but who's counting?

There's also a water block (with ambient sound):

And a lava block (with ambient sound):

Playful sprites

The animations and liveliness of all characters has improved greatly. Everything now moves more gracefully and feels like a real part of the game world now. It's hard to convey this in an image, you need to see it in motion:

Full Menagerie

There's 25 new creatures in Angeldust. 8 new rideable ones. Go and explore. Report back here once you've found all 287 creatures!

The creature AI has also been tuned and tweaked to be much more lifelike. And also, deadlier!

Light My Way

Magical light is toned down a bit so builds actually show their true colors. Here's Toasta's tower so you can quickly see this major change. Of course, all magical lights still shine brightly at nighttime!

Angeldust v2.20 release notes

Here's the list of changes in Angeldust v2.20:

License to Build

Build with both your best and your newest friends! Give and retract building permissions for your land claims right from the telecharger. Meet friend. Permit friend. Build a lasting friendship together:

Your friends are notified of their new permissions:

Details Are Forever

You can now enjoy Angeldust in a new 'detailed' visual style where many textures have additional details. See this dimly lit comparison:

Shelves now sport books. Timber framing is made of wood. Windows have glass in them. Doors have actual hinges and knobs. I already feel at home:

The World Is Not Enough

You could already freely explore the beautiful Angeldust game world. But the world isn't enough. Family motto. So you can now visit beautiful world wonders at the press of a telecharger button:

You can meet up with other players at wonders. At regular intervals a different wonder is loaded into the telecharger. New wonders are continuously added. Here's one. Wondrous indeed:

The Man with the Golden Table Cloth

Somewhere in the crossfire of a whispering war all tables lost their table cloths. Angeldust v2.20 brings them right back. Talk about wonders:

From 'Play Together!' with Love

With the previous update you could earn coins using the 'Play together!' game mode. Angeldust v2.20 allows you to earn coins when telecharging to a player who is playing together. Live stream viewers teleporting to Firefly rejoice!

Angeldust v2.19 release notes

Here's the list of changes in Angeldust v2.19:

Serious Request

In-game friend requests! It's been a long time coming. Enjoy sending and accepting friend requests right from within Angeldust. Accessible using the new telecharger 'Friends' button:

BUT WATI! THERE'S MORE! If you have a lot of friends, once any of them come online, they will be at the top of your telecharger. You'll always be able to visit your online friends this way.

More friends. More fun.

To make new friends there's now a daily bonus for using the 'Play together!' feature in your telecharger. You can get A LOT of coins each day using this. Here's a complex schematic, let me know if you are able to decipher it:

"I'll cut you down to size!"

Last update brought discoverable, plantable trees. Turning this up to eleven you can now chop them down block by block, resizing the tree as you like:

You can now also place trees anywhere. They'll fit snuggly within their allotted space (making it green). Using these new features you can make nice plant and flower pots, like this:

Get on my level

A few top Angeldust players have a lot of coins. A LOT of coins. Previously they couldn't show off their status in-game due to a cap at level 250. Literally unplayable, so we fixed it. Enjoy much higher player levels in-game:

Machete don't text

Some call it essential. Some call it cute. You can now scale the text size on all desktop platforms (Windows, macOS and Linux) to see more stuff on screen. Thanks to Alex for suggesting this feature:

Using the 'minimal' text size Angeldust will cram a lot of items in the inventory display on a full HD display:

Additional changes
  • Add distinct 'friend offline' sound effect
  • Make axe action repeatable to streamline tree chopping
  • User interface layout improvements

Angeldust v2.18 release notes

Here's the list of changes in Angeldust v2.18:

Improved texture set!

It took awhile, but Angeldust now as an improved and polished texture set. Buildings now really stand out, mountains are more impressive and the overall presence of being 'in the game world' is much improved.

There will be a more extensive post on this improvement, but here are a few initial screenshots already, showing parts of the new texture set on builds by Geldis and KitoBär:

Trees, a crowd!

The builder hero can now discover, unlock and plant trees. Target the tree trunk with your axe and swing. Your axe will even glow yellow and give off sparks in the hotbar:

Each tree gives you 750 coins. That's some easy cash up for grabs:

Planting is as easy as well. Select the tree from your inventory, and use it on the spot where you want it. You'll need plenty of room (trees are big!) and you can only place them on top of blocks:

Hint, hint!

The 'new stuff' nearby hint is now more awesome than ever before. Along with the extra sparks flying of your shovel and axe, it's hard to miss new, unlockable items in the game world:

In addition, the Angeldust website (at PlayAngeldust.com) will now also list trees as possible discoveries in each of the game world areas:

Iconic improvements

Speaking of the Angeldust website, it now has updated block icons with a transparent background. Also, the stairs block icons now have shadows (in-game, too!):

Additional changes
  • fix hedge block not sticking to other materials
  • added fences around village park trees
  • improve village foliage appearance consistency
  • allow riding on undiscovered creatures
  • fix water color not being affected by fog
