Super Sketch Bob News

Version 1.1.1 Release

Happy Saturday, Super Sketchers! I come bearing news both good and bad.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that Super Sketch Bob is officially now using a shiny new framework that will run better than ever! The bad news is that we had to switch due to circumstances well beyond our control as the framework the game used to run on, nw.js, is now depreciated. As a result, savegame files from Version 1.0.x versions of the game are not compatible with newer versions.

This sucks. We get it.

But silver lining? You can now play the game with better performance, upgraded physics, and a ton of bug fixes to make everything run much more smoothly. If you ever had issues with collision physics when bopping enemies before, those should now be fixed permanently.

Additionally, we've improved Cross/Link compatibility with Frip and Froop's Logical Labyrinth DX and our currently in development third game, so look forward to that.

How We're Making It Right

We're also implementing a special "Thank You, We're Sorry" program for anyone whose Super Sketch Save Data was lost during this transition. For the entire month of April 2025, if you send an email to [email protected] with a screenshot of Super Sketch Bob in your Steam library, we'll give you access to our Discord server at the Deep Thinker level for one year absolutely free (a $120 value!)! This gives you access to a ton of cool perks like:

 • An exclusive Discord role where you can see development of my next game.
 • One free Steam key for either of my already-released titles.
 • Beta access to my next game on Steam Early Access.
 • Watch and participate in bi-monthly development, Q&A, and liveplay streams with priority for questions in Q&As.
 • Your name in the credits of my next game.
 • Behind-the-scenes content from Super Sketch Bob and Logical Labyrinth DX.

Regarding Ongoing Support of Super Sketch Bob

Hi, all. Lead designer Riley here with an update on Super Sketch Bob going forward.

Biting Off More Than I Could Sketch

Looking over the game, the biggest problem was that I bit off more than I could chew. I was a young, dumb 20-something when I started this project in 2014 and my logic was "Well, if 12 people made Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1988 with that era's tech, surely three people can make a similarly sized game now!"

Although I'm a much better game dev now, the cracks definitely show. Around 2018, most of the team went their separate ways as real life got in the way and I finished the game on my own. I'm still proud of what I accomplished, but I can see that it needed more QA and focus testing. A LOT more. I'm still squashing bugs as I find them and making other improvements here and there, though.

The Road Ahead

Even though Frip and Froop's Logical Labyrinth DX is coming out in a few days and Game 3 is in pre-production, I want to make this crystal clear:
I have zero intention of abandoning Super Sketch Bob.
Bob and Liz still hold a very special place in my heart as does every one of you who played this game. I will continue to support it for the foreseeable future with new patches, fixes, and updates. I have every intention of making it as stable as possible and improving the gameplay wherever possible. I firmly believe that games are a living, breathing medium and that developers should take advantage of player feedback to improve whenever possible, even after release. It's crucial to the health of a game and the future of the industry to keep an open dialogue between players and developers and I intend to do just that.

Right now, I'm working a day job in addition to working on Wayward Thoughts Interactive stuff, so my time is very much split, but I'm in this for the long haul. Game development isn't just something I do for fun; it's something I've wanted to do my entire life. This is my calling and I don't intend to cut and run; I want to build something here. I want my players to know that I do care about my games and about them. Yes, you. Each and every one of you.

Coloring Over the Blank Spots

If you have any problems with the game, and I mean any problem, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. You can submit a ticket at http://support.waywardthoughts.games and I will personally respond to every request and do my best to make it right.

Super Sketch Bob is, and continues to be, a labor of love and I'll keep at it. I hope you'll stick with me as we continue this journey together.
