Itch.io's 1,000 games bundle for Ukraine raises $6 million

March 19, 2022: The Itch.io Ukraine bundle has now concluded, raising over $6 million.

The Itch.io Ukraine games bundle was a stellar deal, as for the cost of just $10 people could get their hands on nearly a thousand indie games - including names such as Superhot, Celeste, Wandersong, and Skatebird - with the money entirely going to support charities working in Ukraine.

As companies such as EA and Microsoft pull sales in Russia, many are pushing for charitable donations to relief organisations in Ukraine. Aside from suspending sales, Activision Blizzard has promised to match "employee donations 2:1" to support Ukraine. Cold War city builder Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic will get a new DLC pack with all its funds donated to charities, and John Romero's new Doom 2 level has raised over €25K in relief funds.

Earlier this month, Itch.io began its Bundle for Ukraine, containing around 889 games and 102 digital game-related items. They could all be unlocked for a minimum $10 contribution, all of which is split between two charities working in Ukraine - the International Medical Corps and Voices of Children.

YouTuber finds Celeste's lost Game Awards trophy on eBay, returns it

It's already one of the best platform games on PC, but 2018's Celeste also won the trophy for the Best Independent Game at The Game Awards that year. This month, however, YouTuber PrestigeIsKey discovered that trophy when shopping for a replica on eBay - which apparently the developer never received.

It wasn't just one of our favourite games of 2018, platformer Celeste is also an excellent example of LGBT+ characters done right. It won the best indie game trophy at the TGAs for 2018 over the likes of Into The Breach, Return of the Obra Dinn, and The Messenger - but the team never received the trophy again afterward.

Events took a funny turn this month when YouTuber and streamer PrestigeIsKey went looking for a replica Game Award on eBay and discovered a "Game Awards Game Trophy" for $500. The seller says it "came from one of our liquidation sources" but otherwise didn't know where it came from. Upon unboxing it, PrestigeIsKey discovered it was clearly marked as the award for Celeste.

Celeste developers announce new game Earthblade

Celeste and TowerFall developers Extremely Ok Games have announced their next game. Sort of, anyway. They've announced its name and given a "vibe reveal" in the form of a poster, logo, and music by Lena Raine. If I had to describe the vibe, I'd call it magical and hopeful, but you can do your own vibe check on Earthblade right now.
