The final day of our Winter Tournament 2020 event exemplifies some of the best in strategic execution, pinpoint precision gunplay and exhaustless stamina from our participants!
The first matchup for the day sees the return of SmashGaming, previously knocked out on Day 1 to Team Toasty with a 2-1 loss. As the best performing team from the losing teams in the playoffs, they had a second chance by meeting with Japanese team RHS - Japanese Invaders+. Their spirits were on fire, easily showing their grit as they smashed through with a 2 - 0 win, leaving the Japanese team to pick up the pieces in a clean win.

The first match begins at 0:45:32
Moving up the bracket, Alces was ready to show that their might had a right to be in the competition on the road to the finals. After a short intermission for SmashGaming to catch their breath, the match began. In the first game, Alces very quickly gained map control holding 65% of the resources of the map in their race to get their tanks out. Returning champion player TheMightyToast easily carved out a path for the team with his deadly gunplay allowing for a solid first win. In the second match, SmashGaming changed up their gameplan and opted to rush directly for the victory points, going for an early tick down on Alces victory point pool and followed through with some well placed Iron Guard drops, keeping Alces too busy to recapture the victory points, tieing the match 1-1. The final game went to Alces who brought in the M33 tanks with timely upgrades, smashing any chance for SmashGaming to enter the finals.

However, there was a chance for redemption for SmashGaming to leave with a piece of the grand prize as they were now matched in the 3rd position fight with their previous rival Team Toasty. Not looking for a repeat, SmashGaming stood firm in their ground, rallying up to a full 3 game match with Team Toasty. Some lessons, however, are learned in the moment, as the first game went to Team Toasty. Taking in what they saw from the quick rush by Team Toasty's officers for the victory points, they played ball and just as quickly sent their own to contest those victory points with a nearly unstoppable supply of GSF Marines and Field Supports. Game 2 went to SmashGaming and with a repeat of their strategy, they nabbed 3rd position and gleefully took the spot with wide smiles.
Moving on to the grand finals, the two teams have shown incredible feats of strategic execution and teamwork, now it was time to see which team was better. At the beginning of game 1, team Malaysia Europe comfortably gained significant ground and held all three victory points, all seemed lost for Alces until a sneaky engineer, micro'd by EmptySoul01 made it's way to the outskirts of Alces's home base and deployed a Barracks. Within moments, a Phalanx Crew was trained and deployed, directed at the left side entrance, bottlenecking any infantry and officers. Supported heavily by the team's heavyweight shooters, TheMightyToast and Fraggoth, it was only a matter of moments when team Malaysia Europe's Command Centre fell.
Which such a dramatic diversion, it was time for team MalaysiaEurope to play their tried and true strategy in game 2, M33 tanks with Reactive Armor. Set in their decision, they began the game with intense concentration. Alces, however, had veteran commander, EmptySoul01 and he still had plenty of tricks up his sleeves. Playing as the AXERON faction, a favorite of his, it was clear as day what play he would use. Opting for Power Plant Overload and enhanced repair pods, Alces would be generating plenty of energy early reducing the need for his teammates to capture energy points to feed the AXERON war machine. It less than 10 minutes, Alces had firmly aligned themselves to victory as 3 of their officers had maneuvered their way into the base and came prepared with battlesuits, MULEs and the very powerful MASER rifle. The win went to Alces 2-0, they will be crowned this year's champions.
With that came a close to our Winter Tournament 2020, we the organizers extend our thanks and gratitude to all the participants and viewers who came online to support our annual event. We look forward to seeing everyone again online and on the frontlines.
