AUTUMN 2024: New Mountainside Maps + 50% Sale Discount



Greetings, Agents. Not only is Intruder 50% off during Steam's Autumn Sale, we're excited to unveil that Mountainside 2.0 is officially leaving beta.

With the full release, we're also introducing two new map variants: Mountainside Sunset and Mountainside Night.

Alongside the updated Mountainsides, which are available right now, you'll earn 200% experience from Intruder matches until Steam's Autumn event concludes on December 4, 2024. Your double XP earnings should help toward unlocking a series of limited time cosmetic items as well.

Now, the view is good from up here. So let's take a look at what Mountainside is like after hours.



[h2]Mountainside: Sunset & Night[/h2]
The sun has finally set in the mountains. In the sunlight, everyone was exposed and vulnerable -- incoming Intruders as well as eager Guards on the exterior. As daylight dims behind the rocky range, shadows begin to play a stronger role in developing new strategies for Mountainside Sunset. Keep an eye out for new angles and opportunities as you explore during the golden hour.

Meanwhile, with Mountainside Night's dramatic shift toward more severe nighttime shadows, teams will no doubt need to reimagine their infiltration routes, package extractions, and defensive tactics. Intruders can't linger in the dark forever, though....


The Guard team's helo strike also has more impact than ever now. While flushing out sneaks and snipers, the helicopter gunship now ignites a forest fire. But that's not the only way to illuminate the mountain trails...

The rooftop spotlight may prove to be an essential tool in exposing enemies slinking through the shadows as well. Intruders will need to avoid the sweeping spotlight to avoid exposing themselves in the upper levels as well as the facility exterior.

[h3]Autumn Cosmetics[/h3]
Each year, we try to put the giving in Thanksgiving, so as mentioned above you'll receive 200% XP bonus for the duration of the Autumn Sale! But that's not all -- for a limited time, you can also unlock the annual exclusive cosmetics for the season. Now get to playing, ya turkeys.


[h3]Improvements & Fixes[/h3]
The Superboss Games team has also been quietly hard at work on long-term technical improvements for Intruder. We recently designed and integrated a custom occlusion culling system. This means that if you're in Mountainside's lower-level bathrooms, the engine now knows you can't see the upper-level executive office -- so it doesn't render those objects at all.

Occlusion culling is a common process in many game engines, including Unity -- but we have some specific needs for Intruder that made this custom upgrade worthwhile. We've been testing this enhancement with Mountainside, and you can expect to have up to a 40% increase in frame rate in certain areas of the map!

Here's a preview of the new system in action:



The camera is flying to multiple predetermined locations and figuring out what objects need to be enabled/disabled to improve performance.

Mountainside performs better than ever because of this, and we're working as quickly as we can to bring the custom occlusion culling system to Cliffside next, and more maps after that!

[h3]Checkpoint and Beyond[/h3]
Speaking of more maps...we know the Intruder community has long been looking forward to the Checkpoint map, which we know we've been quiet about. While our focus has been on other maps and features, we can confirm that Checkpoint is in active development right now -- along with other exciting Intruder features to be announced.

We'll have more to say about this soon, Agents.

[h3]DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?[/h3]The H2 shotgun is currently the only weapon with damage falloff! Shooting at enemies further than 10 feet (3m) away means that you'll need a third shot to finish them off -- beyond that distance, you also might not be able to knock down your target! Hammerhead headshots (Hammerheadshots?) will always instantly kill an enemy at any range, even if they are wearing armor!

Intruder Competitive League: Season 9



Greetings Agents,

Have you been longing for the ultimate Intruder experience? Something like a league where you can play competitive matches of Intruder with a team of the best agents out there?

Look no further: The Intruder Competitive League is about to start its 9th Season!

[h3]What is the Intruder Competitive League?[/h3]
The Intruder Competitive League (ICL) is a community-hosted event where you can play against the best Intruder players in the world, or maybe even become one yourself! With weekly matches against the top teams, you can hone your skills, learn new strategies, and claim the Championship.

[h3]How do I participate?[/h3]
You can participate by joining us on Discord and checking out the channels under the Intruder Competitive category. We have info for the current season, rules, rosters, schedules and more so no matter what questions you have they can be answered there!

[h3]When does it start?[/h3]
Enrollment for new teams is OPEN NOW and roster registration ends on September 22 at Midnight PDT. After that window closes, you're welcome to join an existing team at any time during an active season.

  • Reduced the size of Bloon by 33% to improvement movement through small openings (like half opened doors) and the new Mountainside glass office doors.
  • Improved colliders on the fan housing so bullets aren't blocked by air.
  • Rephrase demotion duration ("Permanent" -> "Indefinite")
  • Send stats on room disconnect
  • Added better debug keybinds, now assignable
  • Give arrest or kill XP, not both
  • Fixed computer blocking explosions

Mountainside is the largest and most complex objective map Superboss Games has ever built. You can play the top-to-bottom remake right now in public beta. We’ll be making continuous updates over time to make it even better, and we're planning Sunset and Night map variants for Mountainside once it exits beta!

Mountainside joins Cliffside and Oceanside as another fresh reimagining of a beloved map. We’re looking forward to your feedback on the Superboss Games Discord. (Mountainside Old will still be available for your lobbies.)

[h3]What's New in Mountainside[/h3]
Visual Overhaul: The Mountainside facility has been reimagined with a ton of new art, improved lighting, contrasting colors, visual effects, atmosphere, and more. Inside and out, from one room to another, the visuals are better than they've ever been. Some familiar places may feel quite different than you're used to, and upgrades to the facility's security systems should make engagements within and without all the more interesting.

Layout Changes: Mountainside's new level design allows for entirely new hiding spots, ambush points, exfil routes, and more. Stay sharp, Agents, and prepare to alter your tactical approach in every scenario. Be sure to explore each of the new rooms, areas, and opportunities within the region -- whether you're ziplining onto the roof, coming in from below in the brand-new sewer system, or rigging doors that give the enemy unexpected angles. We can't wait to see how your teamwork changes in this refreshed environment, which previous strategies prevail, and where you make your sniper's nests.

Deadlier Helicopter Patrol: As always, you can hit the emergency button within the facility to summon a helicopter. The helo will patrol the bridge and ridge as usual, but its attack pattern is even more dangerous than it used to be. We'll let you discover the specifics for yourselves during the mission, but one piece of advice: Find cover.

[h3]What's Next[/h3]
We’ve been hard at work on several other ongoing projects within Superboss Games – with Mountainside 2.0 entering beta, you can expect plenty of fixes and updates to make it the best it can be. But what lies beyond this mountainous range?

In addition to planned fixes and upcoming updates, we’re making nice strides on A.I. enemy behaviors. We’re looking forward to sharing more about that when the time is right (and when our A.I. is on its best behavior).

We’re also looking ahead to our final map remake: Riverside 2.0. We’re in the early phase here, and much like Mountainside we’re eager to share updates with the Intruder community as we go. Your input and excitement during Mountainside 2.0’s development was and is deeply appreciated.

Once Riverside 2.0 is complete, we’ll forge ahead to completion on our next original multiplayer map: Checkpoint. We’re keeping busy over here at Superboss HQ, and can’t wait to get these updates in your hands. Until then, you can monitor Intruder’s future on our Development Roadmap.

While we're at it, here's the latest round of additions, updates, and upcoming features:
  • New Intruder desktop icon on Windows (Might need to reinstall for it to appear)
  • Fix for exiting rooms while map is changing sometimes forcing a room rejoin
  • Fix for lock picking through glass, walls, while really far from the door, etc
  • Fix for lock pick starting new lock immediately upon closing last one
  • Fix for vote left open when switching rooms
  • Fix for CS gas and smoke grenades from previous rounds appearing when joining a server
  • Fix for cursor showing or hiding/locking at the wrong times, like when dying or switching teams
  • Fix for custom pickups displaying the wrong message after being dropped and picked up again
  • Fix for spec cam drifting if using smooth cam during match end
  • Coming Soon to Mapmaker: New nudge zone code for greater customization and ragdoll nudge zones
  • Also Coming Soon to Mapmaker: An upgraded system for attaching custom pickups to character belts -- allowing players to loot bodies, which can be restricted by team. More to come on this
[h3]DiD yOu KnOw ThAt!?[/h3]You cannot slip on Tactical Banana peels while prone. Approach this dangerous gadget with extreme caution should you seek to disarm or evade it – its front is always toward enemy. Stepping onto the Tactical Banana could be a final, fatal error. So...don't. Instead, go prone.
