Server Maintenance and new rules for 5/6 player scenarios

Hi Catanians,

tomorrow on March 9th servers will go into maintenance mode at 11 am [CET]. During maintenance, you won’t be able to play.
We will sue the maintenance to roll out update 2.2.0 which will include the 5/6 player scenarios for the “Basegame”, “Seafarers” and “Cities&Knights” expansion.
The Changelog for update 2.2.0 will follow on March 9th.

Below you will find the new rules for 5/6 player scenarios that have been developed by Klaus Teuber:


We are happy to announce a major rules-change for 5-6 player CATAN games! We are officially replacing the “Extraordinary Build Phase.” Now, two players will “share” a turn (identified as Settler 1 and Settler 2). Settler 1 is the player that rolls the production dice for the turn. Settler 2 is the third player to the left of Settler 1.

1. Resource Production Phase

Settler 1 rolls the dice determine which terrain hexes produce resources for all players (as usual).

2. Trade and Build Phase

Settler 1 performs all of their trading and building actions exactly as usual (no changes to the rules). Settler 1 then ends their trade and build phase.

Settler 2 now gets to take a special turn. Settler 2 may also trade and build as much as they wish, with the following exception: Settler 2 MAY NOT trade with other players (domestic trade). However, Settler 2 is allowed to trade with the supply (maritime trade). Settler 2 then ends their trade and build phase.

Both Settler 1 and Settler 2 may play development or progress cards on their turns, but only Settler 1 is allowed to play a knight card before rolling the dice.

Preview 5/6 Scenarios

We are excited to give you all a sneak preview into the our upcoming update 2.2.0.

This update will include among several improvements a highly requested feature we are very excited to show you today.

The 5/6 player scenarios will be added to the Basegame, Seafares and Cities and Knights expansion without any additional charges. The cost for the expansions will stay the same, we just added the 5/6 scenarios.

This also means, if you already own the "Basegame", "Seafarers" or "Cities and Knights" you will get the associated 5/6 scenarios for free!



The 5/6 scenarios will be played with revised rules created by Klaus Teuber himself.

For all the 5/6 veterans out there: We will post the new rules in advance here as well ;)

Catan Universe 2.1.0 focusses on your feedback regarding the in-game UI we introduced with update 2.0. You will find a lot of customization options as well as improvements in trade as well as the multiplayer. See below what we have been working on:


New Features:

Trading is now handled in real-time → players can start a trade then continue to play, and accept the trade later on
Resource selection handling → click on the card on the opposite site to decrease your offer

New methods to verify the correct sequence of played actions in multiplayer games; If the actions aren’t verified the game will reload automatically to a verified state

Auto-A.I. of other players kicks in if the active player is offline and turntimer runs out

Removed kick timer; players get kicked if their turn timer runs out 3 times; no more kicks in custom matches


Rebuilt complete rejoin/reconnect/reload process

Turn timer doesn’t wait for any UI changes in between actions anymore

Sync active players’ turn timer with trade offer

Sync turntimer on every players’ turn start

Trading is now a simultaneous active/passive timer situation

Robber stops the active players’ turn timer if/until all other players have selected their resources

Auto-A.I. handles C&K better

Stability in UI/client in general

Host is set by servers (before, the clients decided who will be host)

Stabilized synchronization of offline/reconnect state
