Submarines in Random Battles

Captains!

In this article, we are going to tell you about the arrival of rental submarines in Random Battles; anti-submarine weapons of cruisers and battleships; and balance changes to submarines.
Submarines
Submarines have been present in Ranked and Co-op Battles for almost 2 months now, and we are extremely grateful for the battles you have played, as well as your feedback. By participating and telling us your opinions, you helped us determine what the next steps in submarine development should be.

We have planned a number of further changes based on the data and feedback we collected. The first of these is the addition of anti-submarine weapons to all Tier V–X cruisers and battleships in Update 0.10.9, except for hybrids and Dutch cruisers.

We are aware that adding anti-submarine weapons on a large number of ships can have a significant impact on the effectiveness of submarines, so we have made a number of balance changes to the new ship type:
  • We have changed the characteristics of torpedoes, and submarines now have tube-by-tube torpedo-launching capabilities. Tube-by-tube torpedo launching will allow for more dynamic gameplay and better control over the number of torpedoes launched during an attack. To encourage submarine Captains to use sonar pings for better accuracy, the width of the torpedo launch sector has been increased.
  • German submarines were weaker compared to American submarines in terms of damage they were able to deal. To make them even in terms of this parameter, we've increased the maximum damage and the chances of causing flooding of torpedoes launched by German submarines.
  • The torpedo tubes of German submarines are mostly located in their fore ends, which is great for attacking from longer distances. To shift German submarine gameplay toward long-range combat, we increased the range of their torpedoes.
  • American submarines, in their turn, can be quite effective in short- and medium-range battles, because their torpedo tubes are located in both their bows and sterns. To encourage American submarine Captains to embrace this style of combat, the range of American submarines' torpedoes has been reduced.

Reduced dive capacity depletion if the submarine is detected. The increase of dive capacity depletion in Update 0.10.8 significantly affected how comfortable it was to play submarines, and it also impacted their effectiveness. To make the detection of submarines impact their gameplay less, we've reduced the dive capacity depletion rates when submarines are detected.

Summary of Changes

• Dive capacity depletion of a detected submarine reduced from 4 to 3 units/second.
  • Torpedoes are now launched tube-by-tube. If a submarine had several torpedo launchers in her bow or stern, they are now displayed as a single torpedo launcher in her bow or stern, respectively. The torpedo launcher reloading concept remains unchanged.
  • Width of the torpedo launch sector increased by a factor of 2.5.
  • Changed the parameters of torpedoes and sonar pings.
U-69
• Maximum damage of torpedoes increased from 7,067 to 7,533.
  • Chances of causing flooding with torpedoes increased from 37 to 41%.
  • Range of torpedoes and sonar pings increased from 9 to 11.5 km.
U-190
• Maximum damage of torpedoes increased from 7,467 to 8,633.
  • Chances of causing flooding with torpedoes increased from 40 to 47%.
  • Range of torpedoes and sonar pings increased from 10 to 12.5 km.
U-2501
• Reload time of torpedo tubes reduced from 85 to 77 seconds.
  • Maximum damage of torpedoes increased from 7,700 to 8,633.
  • Chances of causing flooding with torpedoes increased from 41 to 47%.
  • Range of torpedoes and sonar pings increased from 11 to 14 km.
Cachalot
• Range of torpedoes and sonar pings reduced from 11.5 to 10 km.
Salmon
• Range of torpedoes and sonar pings reduced from 12.5 to 11 km.
Balao
• Range of torpedoes and sonar pings reduced from 14 to 12 km.

We have also changed the settings for AI-controlled submarines in Co-op and Training Battles. AI-controlled submarines will now be more active in battle. This will help prevent situations where the battle takes too long because players have to find and destroy the last enemy submarine.

The next step in testing submarines is to add them to Random Battles. This will allow us to accurately evaluate their state and gather feedback from a larger number of players. Another important element of testing is to check submarine gameplay in the 12 vs. 12 format, because it has a considerably different battle tempo and density compared to Ranked Battles.

Moreover, adding rental submarines to Random Battles will allow a larger audience to try out the new ship type, get used to playing them, or come up with some tactics to oppose them. When submarines are added to the game on a permanent basis, this will help prevent battle queues being filled with submarines, since they will be mostly selected by players who are interested in the new ship type.

You can get submarines to rent for 7 days by completing sequential combat missions that are updated every 2 weeks.

Offering submarines in this way will help us keep an eye on how many of them are out on our seas and prevent extended queue times. Apart from this, we are going to closely follow submarines in Random Battles, and we will be able to quickly take measures if their presence in Random Battles has an adverse impact on gameplay.
Anti-Submarine Weapons
The Depth Charge Airstrike consumable has been added to all Tier V–X cruisers and battleships that don't have anti-submarine weapons, except for hybrids and Dutch cruisers. At the same time, the range of Depth Charge Airstrike has been changed for all battleships that already had this consumable.

The Depth Charge Airstrike Modification 1 upgrade has been added to the 4th slot of all Tier VI–X cruisers and battleships that already had the Depth Charge Airstrike consumable.

Prepare to dive, and good luck!

Halloween: Nightmare Operations

Captains!

On the night of October 31 to November 1, the shadows get thicker, and the monsters awaken again. To drive out the darkness, you must become a monster yourself.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Some familiar Operations return. Are you ready to take helms of incredible steel monsters to dispel the darkness?
Halloween

This year, we are celebrating Halloween in two stages
• The first stage takes place throughout Update 0.10.9. During this period, Operations Saving Transylvania and Sunray in the Darkness will be available.
  • The second stage starts on the third week of the update and lasts until the release of Update 0.10.10. You will be able to participate in the Twilight Hunt temporary battle type—a reworked version of the Big Hunt that was available during Update 0.10.2.

In this article, we are going to remind you about the festive Operations and tell you about the updated rewards. As for the Twilight Hunt, we will talk about it later in a separate article. Stay tuned for more news on our website!

Both Operations will be available as Operations of the Week. Players will also have an opportunity to team up with their friends in a Division and fight the evil at any of the three difficulty levels throughout the entirety of Update 0.10.9!

Attention! The first completion of the Operation at the Super Hard difficulty level with three Stars or more will reward brave Captains with a new Jack-o’-Lantern Premium container.

By completing Operations at every difficulty level, you can earn expendable camouflages, signals, and days of Warships Premium time. The more successfully you fight, the better your reward will be!
Saving Transylvania
Operation Saving Transylvania will be available at Normal difficulty during the first and last weeks of Update 0.10.9 and at Hard difficulty during the second week. You can also complete the Operation as part of a Division throughout Update 0.10.9 at all three difficulty levels, including the Super Hard one.

The main task in this Operation is to escort a ship called Transylvania on her winding route to a safe place. On the way, you must protect her from the attacks of catapults and Zikasa ships possessed by the darkness. At the end of this journey, players will face the final boss—the evil and dangerous battleship Rasputin.

For Operation Saving Transylvania, we will provide players with the following ships manned by Commanders with 21 skill points:
  • Destroyer III Blade with Commander Abraham V. Hellsinger
  • Battleship III Jackal with Commander Henry J. Hide
  • Cruiser III Igor with Commander Victor F. Einstein

[expand] [/expand]
Halloween Commanders earn Elite Commander XP, which can be spent on training Commanders of the in-game nations.
Primary task
Escort and protect Transylvania during her escape through the Portal.
Secondary tasks
Apart from the primary task, the team can complete five secondary tasks to increase the reward they earn:
  • Transylvania must not lose 50% or more of her HP during the voyage.
  • Destroy at least 16 Zikasa ships.
  • Neutralize all catapults on the map.
  • Transylvania must not stop until reaching the end of the route. To ensure that this condition is completed, at least one player should always remain near the ship.
  • Sink battleship Rasputin.

Sunray in the Darkness
When Transylvania and her defenders return to their home realm, they face an even bigger evil. The entire kingdom is at risk! The most advanced ships of the royal fleet are awaiting your orders. Put a stop to the invasion and save the civilians!

Operation Sunray in the Darkness, which has already become a traditional continuation of Saving Transylvania, will be available to players as the Operation of the Week at Normal and Hard difficulty levels. Take on Operation Sunray in the Darkness to get generous prizes!
  • At Normal difficulty, the Operation will be available during the third week of Update 0.10.9.
  • Hard difficulty level of the Operation will become available on the fourth week.
Throughout Update 0.10.9, the Operation can also be completed as part of a Division at Normal and Hard difficulty, as well as at Super Hard one.

The Forces of Darkness are breaking through the Portal. Your mission is to fend off their attacks, but you won't be alone. The security towers will try to seal the Portal, but you will have to protect the towers from enemy ships. Along with monsters, the Filth—a dense fog—is leaking through the Portal and endangering life itself.

Be careful: While in the Filth, your ship takes damage each second. The amount of damage you receive depends on your ship type. Besides this, visibility and ship detectability decrease significantly in the Filth. At the same time, the Filth benefits your enemies by restoring their hit points and reducing the amount of damage they take. Note that your main task is to protect the towers until they seal the Portal.

For Operation Sunray in the Darkness, we will provide players with the following ships manned by Commanders with 21 skill points:
  • Destroyer VIII Urashima with Commander Mina Hurray
  • Cruiser VIII Svyatozar with Commander Ivan K. Ulibin
  • Battleship VIII Magnu-S with Commander Klaus V. Teslau

[expand] [/expand]
Primary task
Protect the towers until they seal the ominous Portal to another dimension.
Secondary tasks
The team can complete five secondary tasks that increase the reward they earn for completing the primary task:
  • Successfully defend at least two towers.
  • Sink battleship Rasputin.
  • Sink aircraft carrier The Great Gorgon.
  • Destroy 30 enemy ships in the Filth.
  • Successfully defend Transylvania.

German Battleships: Early Access

German Tier III–X battleships have arrived in the Early Access. We're going to tell you everything you need to know to get started with these ships, and most importantly—we're going to reveal how you can get your hands on them.
German Battleships: Part 1
What are the features of the new branch?
  • While they don't have so many main battery guns, and those guns have a rather short range for this ship type, these battleships come out on top against their peers when it comes to accuracy. The shots you do fire will fly true and hit hard.
  • Tier VII ships and higher are armed with long-range torpedoes.
  • Numerous accurate secondary battery guns.
  • Low detectability.
  • Starting from Tier VI—a variant of the Hydroacoustic Search consumable that's similar to the type that German cruisers are equipped with.
  • A variant of the Fast Damage Control Team consumable that differs from the standard Damage Control Party by having a reduced cooldown time and limited number of charges.
Things to Know About Early Access
German Tokens are a new temporary resource that you can obtain by participating in our new Personal Challenges temporary event, from free daily bundles, and from bundles available in exchange for Doubloons and Community Tokens in the Armory.

Rewards for German Tokens: sequentially available bundles with new German Tier III–IX battleships; the German Eagle permanent camouflage for IX Prinz Rupprecht and X Schlieffen; the German Navy permanent camouflage for VII Prinz Heinrich and VIII Zieten; the "German Battleships: Part 1" commemorative flag; and other items.

Early Access to X Schlieffen, together with a Port slot and 10-skill point Commander, will be one of the lots at the upcoming Lighthouse auction. The starting bid is 1,000 Doubloons; in total, 1,000 lots will be auctioned.

The Lighthouse auction will be held from October 7 through 11. You'll find details about the auction's rules, the lots, their quantity, and the starting bids in a dedicated article that's scheduled to be published on our website later this week.

The Hamburg Port has been updated to celebrate the arrival of the German battleships in Early Access.

When Update 0.10.11 goes live, the German battleships will become available for all players to research
