Sound Changes in Update 0.9.6

Update 0.9.6 has brought some major changes to the in-game audio. We’ve updated the Wwise sound engine, added new sound effects, and changed a number of audio settings.

Today we'll explain in detail how to customize the in-game audio to meet your preferences.

Basic Audio Settings ● Fine Audio Settings ● Other Settings
Basic Audio Settings
We recommend using default volume settings, where all the parameters are set to maximum volume. With these settings, you'll experience every detail of the sound effects and get the best experience from the game.

If the sound seems too loud, navigate to General volume level to adjust the volume of all in-game sounds.
Fine Audio Settings
If the general volume controls are insufficient, you can change the fine settings in the audio customization window. These controls manage the different sound effects in our game:
  • NEW Damage audio volume: covers the sounds that indicate hits of the ship, aircraft, water, islands, and other surfaces, as well as sound effects for fire and flooding.
  • Gunfire volume: is the volume of all shots.
  • Interface volume: is the volume of the sound effects that are produced when you click icons, tabs, and notifications, as well as when you activate equipment, etc.
  • Music in the Port and Music in Battle: regulate music volume in the Port and in battle correspondingly, as well as the volume of the horn when you launch the game client.
  • Ambient sound volume: accounts for the sounds of nature on maps and background sounds in the Port.
  • Engine sounds: determines how loud ship and aircraft engines are.
  • Voice message volume: accounts for voice messages during battle, such as phrases from the quick commands chat, notifications about the remaining battle time, and other voice messages.
Please note: we've removed the SFX volume setting. It managed all non-music sounds in the game, except voice messages, thus duplicating certain fine settings options and causing confusion.
Other Settings
Let's take a look at some additional options that also deserve your attention.
  • Sound quality: the default value of this parameter is set by the game automatically, depending on your PC's characteristics. This parameter affects the game's performance.

Setting the sound quality to High is optimal for most devices. Low quality supports all the key sound elements of the game, leaving out minor details and reducing the load on the system. When the sound quality is set to Ultra, your sounds will be at their most intense and detailed. However, make sure your PC is powerful enough to handle it. It's also advisable to have high-quality speakers or earphones; otherwise you won't be able to appreciate the game's sounds on maximum settings.
  • Voiceover language: from this list, you can select any voiceover language that’s available in the client. The default choice is the selected language of the client.
  • Voiceover modifications: from this list, you can select one of a few modifications for the voiceover. There are user modifications and those offered by the game's developers. The latter include Alexander Ovechkin, ARP Commanders, Bad Advice: Cap, and other modifications with Commanders who have unique voiceovers. If you select one of these modifications, the Commander's voice will be used as the voiceover for all your battles.
If you pick the National modification, your Commander will speak the language of the ship's nation, provided that this language is supported by the client. With National voiceover +, this rule is applied to all Commanders in battle. Commanders with unique voiceovers (i.e. those from the Fleet of Fog, Ovechkin, and others) speak only one language.
  • Music mode: allows you to switch the modes of music played during battle.
    • Original: in this mode, you'll hear only brisk battle tracks, played one after another.
    • Dynamic: in this mode, you'll hear custom-made tracks that evolve dynamically, depending on the distance to the enemy and battle situation.
    • Mixed: is the most diverse mode, which combines the advantages of both the Original and Dynamic modes.
    • War Drums: is a special music mode for those who prefer an epic yet laconic music experience.
  • Choose audio source: shows the available sound sources. The audio settings are slightly different in the Earphones and Speakers modes.
If you use a surround sound system (5.1, 7.1, or higher), the game's audio settings will adapt to it automatically. But this audio setting must be selected at the operating system level.
  • Quick messages voiceover (enabled by default): turn this option off if you don't want Commanders to pronounce quick messages in the game.
  • Wide dynamic range (enabled by default): turn this option off if you want all sounds to be equally loud. Dynamic range is the difference between the loudest and the quietest sounds in the game. The broader the range, the more natural and realistic the game will sound. We advise you to disable this option if you use internal laptop speakers or small speakers that can't reproduce the full audio frequency range.
Note: if you disable the Wide dynamic range option, don't forget to return all fine settings regulators back to 100%, as all the sounds will have the same volume, and the regulators will only turn a certain group of sounds on or off.
  • Loudness compensation (disabled by default): use this option if you want to play with a low audio volume and hear the sounds more distinctly.
  • Voice Assistant (enabled by default): turns the announcer in the Port on or off. The announcer helps you understand new interface elements and informs you about achieving new Access Levels.

Voice Chat: in this menu section, you can customize the settings of the in-game voice chat.

Take note of the Radio communication effect setting, which also affects the voice chat. You can also select a radio effect variant in the Voice chat processing drop-down menu.

Developer Bulletin 0.9.7
German carriers leave Early Access, a new collection, Naval Base update, and other improvements.
IMPORTANT! Because the Update is still being tested, the information in this Bulletin is tentative and reflects the state of game development at the time of its publication. Some changes and new features may be removed entirely or implemented differently by the time the Update goes live. Screenshots, specific values of certain characteristics, and details of in-game mechanics will not necessarily be relevant after the Update is released.
German Carriers: Part 2 ● Ranked Sprint ● Changing Keys for Consumables ● Unique Upgrades ● Naval Base Update ● Other Improvements
German Carriers: Part 2
The branch of German carriers will become available for all players to research with the release of Update 0.9.7.
Please note: the rewards for activities on the Public Test server may differ from those on the live server. German carriers are not available to research on the Public Test server.

The game event in Update 0.9.7 is presented by Directives, Daily Shipments, and a new collection dedicated to the German Navy.

You can get German Navy containers as rewards for completing Directives, as well as from Daily Shipments. Each container contains two elements of the new collection, as well as other rewards.

The "German Navy" collection consists of six sections, with six elements in each. Elements of the collection can be obtained from the event containers, and also daily containers if you've activated the subscription. The reward for completing the collection is the ability to mount two flags and alternative camouflage patterns on German ships.

The Port of Hamburg has been updated.
Ranked Sprint
Update 0.9.7 brings with it a new Ranked Sprint with a 3 vs. 3 format, playing Tier IX ships.
Changing Keys for Consumables
An option to set the order of consumables for each ship is going to be added in 0.9.7. The order of consumables is saved on the server, so you won't need to set it again if you're playing on different computers.
Unique Upgrades
We're continuing to work on making changes to the existing Unique Upgrades, and also adding some new ones.  The current concept provides an additional opportunity to mount an upgrade with special-but-balanced bonuses in comparison with regular upgrades.

These changes will balance the effectiveness of unique upgrades, and at the same time preserve the unique gameplay of each ship.
You can view the detailed list of changes on the Development Blog, and in the article about Update 0.9.7.
Naval Base Update
• Added improvements for the Treasury, which will allow Clan leaders to regularly exchange Oil for rewards for the Clan.
  • The Research Center, which applies a bonus to the amount of received XP, has been renamed "Naval institute." A new building named "Research Institute" has been added. It increases the amount of Research Points received.
  • Depending on the Clan's activity in Clan Battles, the water area of the Naval Base will be filled with a proportionate number of ships. As more Random, Co-op, and Ranked Battles are played by Clan members, more vessels will appear.
Other Improvements
Two new battle signals, which can be obtained in exchange for credits, coal, and Research Points, have been added to the Armory.
  • X-Ray Papa Unaone: increases the action time of Smoke Generator by 15%.
  • Sierra Bravo: increases the action time of Hydroacoustic Search by 10% and reduces the cooldown period of Defensive AA Fire by 10%.

They will be added to the "More Signals and Camouflages" daily container at a later point in time.

When entering the game for the first time after the update, a short video will play back. It can be skipped by double-clicking any keyboard button. Another video will play back on the login screen. This video can be paused.

Updated the upgrade icons.

Public Test Now Available via Steam!

Each World of Warships Update goes through many test phases before it hits the Live Servers. The Public Test is one of the final phases of testing any updated game features. The results of all the tests allow the developers to maintain the highest possible quality of the game on the Live Servers.

Sometimes the results of the Public Test affect the developers' decisions on whether or not to introduce certain changes on the Live Server, or postpone them and roll them out during a later Update. Some test phases cannot be carried out without a large number of players, even if we use a lot of special testing bots, because no machine can imitate the behavior of a real player. Your participation in the Public Test is very important to us, as well as your comments about any new features prior to the release of each Update.
Active participants of the Public Test are eligible for special rewards that get added to their accounts on the Live Server.
How do I access the Public test?
If you want to join the Public Test for the first time:
  1. Use this link.
  2. The Public Test account is created automatically upon the first launch. You only need to choose any available nickname.

After doing that, you have the option to link an email address to your Public Test account inside the game, as long as it's not in use for another PT account. You can receive rewards on your main account which is linked to the same SteamID or email as your Public Test account, so it's fine if your main World of Warships account doesn't have a linked email address.

Please note: if you have previously participated in a Public Test outside of Steam (i.e. via the WGC), you'll have to create a different Public Test account for linking to your SteamID. Therefore if you wish to receive remaining PT season rewards — you'll have to do that using the WGC account. Apologies for inconvenience.

If you've participated in a previous Public Test on Steam, simply update the client, launch it, and you will be logged in automatically upon launching.
Please note the following: Player Support does not accept complaints about violations committed on the Public Test server.
When will I receive my rewards?
The rewards will be added to your main account after several working days of the release of the respective Update on the Live Servers, not immediately after you fulfill the criteria.

Important: the Public Test server is available only during special test rounds, which usually last from Thursday to Monday on some weeks. You won't be able to connect on the other days.

You can get the details about the Public Test's time, as well as its combat missions and rewards, in a special news article on the website that is published before every round of the Public Test.
