Two new Helldivers 2 stratagems just dropped, and one is a must have

Two new Helldivers 2 stratagems have just arrived in the co-op shooter, and you'll want to get your hands on them if you're taking on the current fight against the bots. Arrowhead Game Studios has dropped a pair of new support weapons, the LAS-99 Quasar Cannon and the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun, and you'll definitely want to get your hands on the former, which from our early testing offers an EAT level of devastation in a rechargeable package.

Terrible news, fun-loving Helldivers 2 folks, Arrowhead wants you to avoid having snowball fights for now

It's defintely not Christmas, but Christmas in Helldivers 2 has basically just been cancelled. Arrowhead's advising that you refrain from lobbing any snowballs at your mates until further notice, until it figures out how to fix your favorite pastime from inadvertently causing crashes.

That's right, you might be safe to use your arc weapons again without fearing any sudden freezes, thanks to the game's latest patch stopping that from being a thing, but now you've got to avoid trying to cover someone in a suspicious patch of yellow snow you've found mid-op and are somewhow okay with picking up. To be fair, you're now supposed to be making sure those pesky bots get driven back now anyway, so you've got plenty to keep you occupied.

Over in the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, Arrowhead community manager Baskinator announced this depressing news, declaring: "Helldivers, avoid having snowball fights". Don't worry though, this isn't some kind of punishment for failing a major order or, er, being a bit too reticent to stop killing Terminids and actually deal with the galaxy's current biggest threat.

"We're aware of a crash caused by picking up and throwing snowballs," the developer explained, "We hope to have this fixed in the near future, but until then, we advise against snowball throwing". So, there you go, if you want to make sure you don't get booted out, stop trying to take people's heads off every time you drop onto a frigid planet.

What are the best Helldivers 2 settings? Democracy is the flavor of the month, and taking on hordes of Terminids is much easier with a buttery smooth frame rate. With that in mind, we've put Helldivers 2 to the test to figure out the best video and gameplay settings that will bring you the best performance.

Helldivers 2 doesn't demand the best graphics card, but a lack of upscaling tech like Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR will make stable frames harder to come by for older gaming PCs. Our best settings will try and navigate this shortfall as much as possible, but upscaling tech arriving in the future isn't off the table just yet.

Avoid these Helldivers 2 guns to survive until the next patch

Helldivers 2 APC-deliverer isn't gamemaster Joel, claims source, raising grim prospect of multiple Joels

Yesterday I posted a story about Helldivers 2 game master Joel, which showed him delivering an unreleased vehicle to a random group of players before vanishing into the ether. But this morning came a thunderous plot twist. Someone on team RPS was contacted by a verified source with first hand knowledge of Joel's shady activities. The source has confirmed that APC-deliverer Joel isn't anything but an imposter, a fake, a generous fraud. The Real Joel, it seems, isn't so brazen with his actions.

Nice, Helldivers 2's latest patch stops the game from freezing when you fire three lightning-infused guns

Good news, if you've been having issues with Helldivers 2 freezing since its last patch was deployed, there's now a new one designed to stop at least some instances of the game doing just that when you use specific guns.

If you're out of the loop, things had been going well in-game for the soldiers of Super Earth until a number of pesky issues hit last week, likely contributing to the failure of a major order, which some players were seemingly told hadn't failed, even though it definitely had. Arrowhead's been working very hard on sorting a lot of them out and here's a big fix, as the focus starts to go back to what cool stuff might happen in-game next.

As detailed in the very snappy notes for patch 1.000.104, which was teased last week, it has one job and hopefully will do it well. That one job is fixing the game's arc-based weapons, and stopping the act if firing them from freezing the game. The guns and stratagems in question are the Arc Thrower, Arc Shotgun, and Tesla Tower.
