Helldivers 2 patch adds optional account linking to the game's settings and changes the Tenderizer's colour

Here's another Helldivers 2 patch, dropping in to offer some fixes to your game - which include adding a fresh option to link your PSN and Steam accounts via the game's settings.

This is a noteworthy development, given the massive backlash Sony recently got when it tried to make linking your PSN and Steam accounts a mandatory requirerement for PC players, a decision the publisher then walked back after the game was review bombed. To be clear, linking the two very much still looks to be an optional thing at the moment, with this patch just adding a new means by which you can initiate the process, if you're so inclined.

In the notes for patch 1.000.304, which mainly targets some pesky crashes, Arrowhead simply writes that: "Optional account linking [is] now available in the Account section of the in-game settings." So, there's a new way for you to go about doing it if you fancy, which is perfectly fine news for now, even if some players look to be a bit unsure of whether this change should reassure them about linking remaining optional in the long-term.

Helldivers 2 Star Wars mod will let you and your nerdy mates do some Clone Wars roleplaying while you kill bugs

Hello, Helldivers 2 people. And Star Wars people. You'll both be glad to know that there's a mod pack in the works which'll bring both of those two things together, by visually transforming the shooter into the perfect tool to re-enact some Clone Wars battles.

Yup, you've recently had to consider what Helldivers 2 might have been like if Arrowhead had opted not to make it live-service, and now you're having to consider what it could be like if all of your team mates looked like something that little green lad - aye, Yoda - could lob into the atmosphere using his force powers.

The mod pack that accomplishes this is the work of modders Irastris and Kboy, with YouTuber ToastedShoes having recently teamed up with some friends to show off their intergalactic work. As you can see in the clip below, the mod swaps the usual getups of you and your mates with those of clone troopers, as well as filling the game's maps and cinematics with a host of familiar Star Wars ships and droids.

Former Helldivers 2 lead writer's next game is "Fire Emblem if it were published by Annapurna"

The former lead writer of charming super-fascist simulator Helldivers 2 is working on a strategy and tactics RPG in the vein of Nintendo and Intelligent System's Fire Emblem games, which aren't available on PC and as such, are a complete mystery to you, a lifelong desktop warrior who would sooner cut their hand off than suffer it to brush against one of those filthy Nintendo witches, I mean Switches.

To fill you in, Fire Emblem is known and sort of celebrated for being a rich ensemble fantasy story with character permadeath. Helldivers 2, meanwhile, is a game in which people are as expendable as bullets, and the storytelling is deliberately brittle because it consists largely of clownish propaganda. Put the two sets of inspirations together, and what do you get? You get a headline, that's what. Beyond that, we can only dream.
