HELLDIVERS™ 2 News

Helldivers 2 still endures after this week's disaster - here's why

It's painful to see the back-to-back bad news in gaming nowadays, from studio closures to projects falling into limbo. I imagine myself clutching a well-used copy of Fallout: New Vegas and shouting into the sky that we have to go back, as it can feel as though the habits and trajectory of the past decade have failed us. The AAA industry's move to live-service games has ended in numerous storied disasters, and right now it feels like almost nothing new sticks around for long. The exception to the rule recently is Helldivers 2, which has deservedly found and retained an audience.

After the week that nearly ended all weeks for Helldivers 2, things appear to be settling back to normal. Well, as normal as possible in a game where humanity takes the fight to the stars to destroy bugs and bots in huge numbers. Things may be returning to a more normal state of being but there are still some concerns, especially as the release of a new premium warbond is right around the corner.

Helldivers 2 CEO is pushing Valve and Sony to reverse Steam delisting

Helldivers 2 balancing has been "removing the fun", Arrowhead CEO frets - "just tweaking damage numbers is a blunt tool"

The game in question is cheery co-op shooter Helldivers 2, over which Aunty Sony recently upended a can of furious worms by abruptly insisting that Steam players have a PSN account for security reasons and so, blocking players in regions where PSN isn't available. Sony have subsequently walked back the requirement following a backlash of truly hellish proportions, though I understand that the game remains unavailable on Steam in certain regions. By comparison, Arrowhead CEO's Johan Pilestedt remarks overnight that the developers might have been "removing the fun" with their gun balancing seems pretty innocuous.

Helldivers 2 CEO is pushing Valve and Sony to reverse Steam delisting

Helldivers 2 Steam accounts will no longer have to be linked to the PlayStation Network, following significant backlash and criticism from the co-op shooter's community. However, the game is still unavailable to purchase in over 170 countries - when the account linking was initially announced, Helldivers 2 was summarily removed from sale in any region where PlayStation Network is not available, and has not yet been reinstated. Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead, says the studio is now pushing Valve and Sony to have the game relisted.

 • Crash fixes
Fixes
Crashes
 • Fix for common crash related to damage over time use

These are issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed. [Unchanged from yesterdays patch notes apart from the recent playlist issue]
