HELLDIVERS™ 2 News

As it turns out, Helldivers 2's self-killing spike has been due to shrapnel, not ricochets - don't worry, a fix is coming

Following Helldivers 2's latest patch, players have suddenly found themselves being insta-killed by their own ordinance on a regular basis, something that they'd no doubt find quite funny if they weren't, you know, trying to score victories for Super Earth.

While a change to ricochets that came as part of this latest patch - which also featured a pretty extensive array of balancing changes to weapons - was originally thought by many players to be behind this spike in self-shootings, Arrowhead's now revealed the actual cause.

In a post on the game's official Discord server, community manager Spitz outlined that the studio has found the issue to actually stem from rogue shrapnel being kicked out by shots from the Eruptor - something a few investigative players had theorised might be the case.

Helldivers 2 dev debunks ricochet damage, but there's another problem

Arrowhead has officially debunked the ricochet damage rumor after it dropped the latest Helldivers 2 patch, but the team has discovered another issue in the meantime. While some of the community was in a frenzy over the belief that patch 01.000.300 made some explosive rounds ricochet back at you and kill you, it was quickly debunked by others. Arrowhead also debunked this with its own research, but found that there are actually some problems with shrapnel damage instead.

Helldivers 2's most broken weapon finally getting the fix it deserves

Since launch, the Helldivers 2 Spear support stratagem has been broken. The anti-tank missile launcher should help you take out Bile Titans, Automaton Fabricators, and other large enemies, but the haphazard lock-on feature, lack of ammo, and inconsistent damage output make it one stratagem you currently don't want to waste the valuable 9,000 Requisition Slips on. That, however, is all about to change.

Helldivers 2's latest update comes under fire for ricochet changes, as players can't stop shooting themselves

Hello. Helldivers 2 gots a rather beefy new patch yesterday, and now people can't seem to stop finding ways to accidentally defeat themselves in battle. What's to blame for this sudden rise in rather hilarious mistakes? Well, a change to how bullet ricochets work seems to be drawing the majority of the ire.

Yup, while there's some of the usual unhappiness about the nerfs that came as part of the patch's array of balancing changes to weapons, which were admittedly outnumbered - or at least equaled - by the amount of buffs on offer, the big backlash this time is related to what bullets do after they leave your gun. That being, in a lot of these recent cases, casually pinging straight back into the body of the helldiver that fired them.

So, as a bit of context, one of the changes Patch 01.000.300 enacted is this: "Shots that ricochet from heavy armored enemies will now properly hit the Helldiver who fired them." The idea behind looks just to be focing folks to be a bit more disciplined with their fire, since they'll now be at risk of the consequnces.
