Helldivers 2 dev discusses the possibility of bigger squads

The four-player squad limit in Helldivers 2 creates just the right amount of anarchy. Stratagems are falling from the skies, bullets are whizzing past your helmet from every direction, and in the midst of all the chaos you're trying to communicate with your comrades without accidentally dropping an air strike on their shiny metal domes. So what would Helldivers 2 be like if there were more than four of you? Turbulent, to say the least.

Helldivers 2 faces "grim projections" after we beat two billion bugs

Sunday April 21 @ 4:40am PDT Arrowhead now says that thanks to an Automaton attack, it is now "unable to provide updates to liberation percentage and ongoing galactic war progress for the foreseeable future."

In what feels like an act of defiance, it looks like we're meant to lose the next Helldivers 2 major order. After we beat two billion Terminids in less than a day Arrowhead Game Studios gave us the task of successfully defending ten planets, and it's not going well. Now, a message from one of the community managers says there are "grim projections" for us, and that we'll likely lose ground on both fronts against the bots and bugs. Whoever said live service games had to be fair?

UPDATE: Good news, Helldivers 2 players, galactic war progress tracking is now up and running again, following a "minor outage"

You might want to wait a touch before you carry out any major orders in Helldivers 2, as it seems there's a problem related to tracking them.

If you're currently out in the trenches fighting for sweet, sweet democracy in Helldivers 2, but you're noticing that no progress is being made on the game's current major orders, it appears there's a reason for that. Earlier today, the official Helldivers 2 Twitter account put out a notice saying there's a "minor outage" that's stopping your "liberation efforts" from being tracked properly, and it's not entirely clear why right now. "Helldivers! Our galactic war systems are suffering a minor outage after the destruction of a long-range array on Vernen Wells," reads the tweet, in character as always.

"During this time, your liberation efforts may not be tracked and progress may not display properly. Our teams are looking into the issue as we speak!" To put it into real world terms, there's some kind of bug (pun not intended), and developer Arrowhead is trying to fix it, but you'll have to wait a bit before it's ready. It's not actually clear as to whether it's just a visual issue, and that progress is being tracked but just not displayed, but maybe if you don't want to have your time wasted, it's safe to hold out until the issue is resolved.

What's next for Helldivers 2? Making it "the best live service game you've ever played"

As with any live service game, plenty of Helldivers 2 players have differing opinions, but no matter what Arrowhead wants to do just one thing: make the best live service game ever.

No one really expected Helldivers 2 to blow up as much as it has, including developer Arrowhead. That much was evidenced by the myriad of server issues the game suffered from at launch, as well as some other bugs along the way (and I don't mean the ones you're tasked with killing). So, with a whole load of players, comes a whole load of people saying the game should do this or that. A recent post on the Helldivers subreddit from a user by the name of TheGentlemanCEO went into their own problems with the rest of players, talking about how some players wish Arrowhead would focus on bug fixes before adding more Warbonds, saying that Sony would mind if Arrowhead didn't do so (thanks, PCGamer). However, frequent poster and Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt offered some context and clarity to what the situation at the studio is actually like.

"I appreciate your sentiment and post," wrote Pilestedt. "Let me add some context. Arrowhead is independently owned by people working at the studio and not swayed by shareholders in the traditional sense. Of course we are in a great partnership with Sony where we agree on targets to hit etc. But there isn't a forcing function or requirement per se.
