Market Tycoon V. 1.4.5

Hello Market Tycoon players,

We first want to apologize for taking too long to bring you this update, we underestimated how much work was needed to get the new item placing system ready for Steam Workshop. But enough excuses here is to a new time with faster more frequent updates.

As you know, we are working to support Steam Workshop on Market Tycoon. As said before we didn't plan for the game to be this big, and there were no plans to add workshop/mod support when we first started developing the game. For the past 5 months, many-core game code was changed to accommodate Steam Workshop. And in this update, you will start to see the results.

So, what is new in this update?
Mainly, it's a new item placing system. On previous versions of Market Tycoon, every item had a preset list of where it can be put, how the items are configured in the shelf and a preset amount in each set. With this update information about the item and where you are trying to place it is fed to the new system and the game will automatically figure out if the item can physically be placed on the shelf and how to configure the item within the shelf. You will also be able to choose how many items to place using the arrow keys to add or subtract items. The system isn't perfect yet, there is still room for improvements and in a feature update you will have the option to chose how to configure the item from a normal style to a pyramid style or some other ways.

We believe this will drastically change how Market Tycoon is played by finding the best way to maximize profits and minimize expenses by choosing how much exactly of an item you want to be placed.

We have also split the items into more categories and they are,

  • Fruits & vegetables
  • Snacks
  • Breakfast & Cereals
  • Bakery
  • Beverage
  • Meat & Meals
  • Grains & Pasta
  • Soups
  • Canned Food
  • Condiments
  • Dairy

  • Household Essentials
  • Pet Supplies (No items available in this category as of this update)
  • Health and Beauty (No items available in this category as of this update)
  • Clothing (No items available in this category as of this update)
  • Electronics (No items available in this category as of this update)
  • Auto (No items available in this category as of this update)

When is Steam Workshop coming?
In the next update. We have already begun working on it a few weeks ago. The tool is almost done it just needs a little more work and UI. Here is a sneak peek at the tool
as you can clearly see the tool is still in work but the main controls are there. The final version of the tool will not like that at all.

What will I be able to do with this tool?
With its first release, you will be able to add items to Market Tycoon and share it with the community. The tool will be very easy to use all you will have to do is upload a 3D model, verify/add textures, verify/modify size and rotation, and fill the information and you are done. You will then be able to share your item on Steam Workshop for other members of the community to download.
We are so excited so what items will be added.

In a feature update, you will be able to not only add items but objects like cashiers, shelves, fridges, freezer, and decorations you will also be able to add wall and floor paint as well.
As for adding market models, there are plans for that too but it might take longer due to the many variables associated with adding a market model. We would rather work on adding more gameplay features at this stage than developing a tool for adding markets. However, we will add more markets for you to play in a feature update. We will run a poll on our Discord channel to see what you guys want to see next.

Please note that markets saved prior to this update might not work as expected or might not load. New games made with this version will work just fine.

If you found any bugs please report them using the in-game bug reporter.

Thank you for your patience for this update. We will try our best to bring you Steam Workshop as soon as possible.

Market Tycoon Dev Update

Hi Market Tycoon Fans,

Here with another update. We have some good news and some bad news.

We will start with the bad news as we like to keep the best for last. The bad news is we will delay the next update, but for a good reason that you'll like.

Here with the good news. As you know we are working on a tool to support Steam workshop which will allow you yo make content like items, objects, paint, etc.

We decided that to make this tool as useful as possible we have to make all items fit anywhere if it can physically fit within a shelf, not only items made with the tools but of course items that are already in-game.

The way you place items on shelves now is using a preset number of items that may or may not fit in some shelves, fridges, or freezers some items have more or less as you can see from the items menu or using the arrow keys and you'll notice there is a maximum of 3 presets but most have only one.
We are working on a new system that will take each item and place it on a shelf one-by-one until it is full or as many as you want. For example, right now, if you want to place a set of apples you are forced to place 20 apples (unless you are restocking, but you will only able to restock on the place of the missing apples from those 20) the new system will allow you to place from 1 piece and up to the maximum number of apple that can physically fit in the given shelf. And that will apply to all items.

We are sorry again for the delay of this update but we hope you like what is coming and understand the reason for the delay, it will only bring you a better more polished product.

We are looking at a time frame from 2-4 weeks but we'll try our best to get it sooner.

Thanks for your continued support of Market Tycoon many exciting stuff is yet to come.

Market Tycoon Dev Update

Hello Market Tycoon Fans,

Many asked when is the next update? Here to let you know our plans.

When we first started developing the game it was supposed to be much smaller than it is right now, as we didn't expect that much people will like it or be interested in the game. So thanks for everyone's continued support for the game.

And as you know the next big thing for Market Tycoon is workshop, and since we didn't plan for the game to be this big there were no plans to add workshop/mod support when we first started. After seeing the number of people that liked the game our goals changed for a bigger game with much more features than planned. As you can notice the last 2 updates last of which was a little over a week ago were all about bug fixes but what we didn't say is these updates also uses a new code that can accommodate workshop support.

Right now we are working on building tools for the community to use to make items, objects, paints, and eventually markets (We also want to add decorations and posters to the game which of course the community would be able to make more of). Initially, the tool will support making items and then the other stuff will be added to the tool as it gets ready. We are trying to make the tool as easy to use as possible and we are figuring out the best way to do so. Plans of how the tool will work are laid out and we'll start working on it in the upcoming days. We expect the tool will be ready for making items sometime next month but we can't guarantee exact timing yet, but be assured it's coming soon enough.

Thank you for your continued support for Market Tycoon.

Market Tycoon V. 1.4.4 (Bug Fixes & Future Update)

Hello everyone!

Thank you for your patience for this update, we understand that this took too long.

Let's get into it, this update is kinda small in terms of gameplay but it improved on core game code setting it up for the support of Steam Workshop.

We focused on fixing bugs for this one but the main thing is that we rewrote the entirety of the code that handled the placement of items which took a lot of time. You might notice that most items can now be placed on shelves that weren't allowed to be placed there while it should have been. Previously items had a predefined list of shelves that can go into but now it calculates if it physically fit and of course whether an item is getting placed in a shelf, fridge, or freezer.

Many small bugs were fixed and improvements have been made. One big improvement is that when you train a cashier employee you had to click on the cashier and open it manually after training is done, that confused a lot of players on thinking that the employee just never comes back. Now, with this update, the employee automatically returns once training is done.

For the next update, we are planning on developing the tool for Steam Workshop that will initially let the community make items and later all sort of stuff like cashiers, shelves, fridges, freezers, decorations, paint, and even the market itself.

Also, we want to optimize the game more especially with the UI so let us know what you want us to focus on more in our Discord server which you can join from here: https://discord.gg/Pzf4A2g

Thank you again for your patience for this update we have a lot of exciting ideas which will make this game much more fun.
