Insurgency developer New World Interactive are the latest Embracer Group-owned studio to lay off staff, as part of the Swedish conglomerate's efforts to reduce their debts after a series of reckless studio acquisitions. It's not clear how many people have been affected, but New World Interactive's direct corporate parent Saber Interactive have revealed that one unannounced project has been cancelled.
New World Interactive, one of the most beloved independent FPS developers to come out of the modding scene, has been hit with a major round of layoffs. The studio's parent company, Embracer Group, is responsible, as it continues to struggle with debt.
Embracer, which had acquired NWI in August, 2020, has been on a death march of cost-cutting that began in the summer, and has so far resulted in six months of constant job cuts and studio closures, which Embracer dubbed "restructuring."
New World Interactive is technically a subsidiary of Saber Interactive, which is amongst the Embracer Group's many holdings. Reports about the news initially suggested the studio had been entirely shuttered, but Saber has since clarified that it's only let go of developers.
