Trailmakers 2.0: Pioneers is Out Now! đź’Ą

Trailmakers: Pioneers is out now for free and for all platforms!

It is the culmination of almost two years of hard work and we are beyond excited for all of you to try it.

[h3]With this update we bring you a new, exciting campaign with many hours of content, a new fresh UI and a whooping 25 new blocks.[/h3]

Everything gameplay related is free but we are selling an Artbook and a Soundtrack if you want to support us.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at all the new stuff that got beamed to your PC today:

New Cinematic Intro

New Tutorial World

New Pioneers World
  • Large new map!
  • Multiple biomes: Meadows, Wastelands, Mudflats, Withered Heights, TreeTops.
  • Terrain features: Water, Caves, Mountains, Mud.
  • New skybox and time of day settings.
  • New grass system - we now have wheat, grass fields, pebbles, flowers etc, and can show grass much further away from the player.
  • Lots of new world objects such as: Skytrees (Biig trees), oak trees, rocks, roots, hanging seaweed (mudflats) lighthouses, Froggit settlements
  • Lots of new resources to mine and collect: Fuel tanks, bismuth rock, iron, glowfruit etc.
  • Long campaign with boss fights, missions, story and lore.
  • Mission types: Passenger, Salvage, Combat, Resource Gathering, Traversal.

3 new Frame blocks

New Fuel System
  • In Pioneers players can run out of fuel and be stranded.
  • This should create a feeling of constant danger.
  • Fuel is replenished at towns and via pick ups.


New Repair System
  • In Pioneers players have three repair tokens.
  • Tokens can be replenished at towns and via pick ups.
  • Players can perform emergency repairs when repairing outside vehicles.
  • Players can die while performing emergency repairs.
  • Damage is transferred when transforming.
  • Players can realign without repairing.


New Material Properties
  • Wheels now slow down in mud, grass and sand (and have low traction).


New Trailmakers Manual
  • Replaces Videos-based Help Menu.
  • Helps players with building vehicle types: Cars, Planes, Boats, Spaceships.
  • Explains many core mechanics.


New Dashboard Menu
  • Replaces map screen.
  • Includes Map in all worlds and in Pioneers:
  • Map
  • Pioneers Progress (Level, Megadrills and Unlocked Blocks)
  • Mission Log (Accepted missions and mission invites)
  • Resource Inventory


New Intercom UI
  • Redesign of existing Intercom UI.
  • Additional UI design for Pioneer.


New HUD
  • New design of the HUD.
  • Build slots are always visible.
  • New elements for Pioneers: Fuel and Repair Tokens.


New Builder UX/UI
  • Build Slots based
  • Vertical Block Inventory
  • New Block Categorization
  • Collapsible sub-categories
  • Redo option
  • “Build Vehicles” - categorization of blocks based on vehicle types

New Main Menu Video
  • Features new builds and up to date footage.
  • Features Pioneers as well as old worlds.


New Keyart
  • New Trailmakers Splashscreen
  • New Trailmakers Pioneers Logo and update to Trailmakers Logo


Changes
  • Most weapons no longer penetrate the water surface (but new underwater weapons are being planned)


Quality of Life
  • Added angle limit visualization to Aiming Servo block.
  • Moved Map Beacon placement button to a different input to avoid accidental placement as a result of mislicks.
  • Pressing R realigns your vehicle without repairing your vehicle - but you can hold to repair as well.
  • New sound HDR system that now dynamically ducks the least important sounds.
  • All basic wind sounds are now using ambisonics giving a more immersive audio experience.


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed punctured wheel sound being stuck after repairing.


Audio Improvements
  • Sounds from structures will get muffled and harder to hear if the structure is underwater but the camera is above. Time to be sneaky with those submarines!

That’s a wrap for the 2.0 Dev Diaries!

We did not do an in-game DLC this time around but we do ask you to consider buying our Digital Artbook and/or Soundtrack to further support the development of Trailmakers. Contrary to popular belief we have not made 100 billion dollars from DLCs and we still solely rely on your continued support of the game. This update has been underway for almost 2 years and finally being able to reveal the name feels incredible. The historians will note that the name Pioneers was the original name of Trailmakers, so we are paying homage to the old days with the biggest update in Trailmakers history - all free!

New Blocks ⚙️ Dev Diary #4

We just revealed all the new blocks coming with 2.0.

Some of them have a use for the game that can seem a bit cryptic at the moment but keep in mind a lot of it was designed for the campaign which we will start showing off from next week.
