Dead Cells News

Dead Cells' Streamer VeeDotMe will be live here at 5pmEST!

Heya everyone,

We re going home to get a bit of sleep before we come back tomorrow to fix all the freaking bugs that slipped passed us and our playtest sessions.

That said, we do want to have someone else streaming on the Dead Cells store page, you couldn't be in a better company that with VeeDotMe! Not only he is definitely one of the best Dead Cells player around but he's also a really nice guy!

Hope you enjoy his stream and seeing learning a bit more about the new content.

The Bad Seed DLC is out!

PSA: Don't buy the bundle until you see it on sale with the 10% discount and the 30% off on the base game, there's been a little communication error between us and Valve and that WILL NOT be live for a few more hours. Also it's not a complete the set bundle which was erroneously published in a previous news, this means the bundle discount of 10% is only for new players. Apologies for the miscommunication. :/

Hi everyone,

We are excited to announce that The Bad Seed DLC is now officially available!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
As most of you probably know by now, it gives you two extra biomes with new enemies, weapons (two-handed scythes anyone?), bouncy mechanics and a big ol’ screen-sized boss.

Ok, but what exactly is in there?
Two levels:
The Arboretum
First up is the Arboretum, full of bouncy plants and delightful mushrooms that just can't wait to get close to you. We felt there was potential in quick vertical movement to help keep a nice flow going, and rubbery vegetation seemed like as good a place to start as any.

Surprise attacks just got faster

You can find a little friend lurking within these dilapidated walls. With time you'll find that you'll get to know each other and that the little thing is really willing to put its body on the line for you...

It really really likes you

A dedicated but very jealous bodyguard that won't let anyone get close to you.

The Morass of the Damned
After you bust out of the Arboretum, you'll land right in the Morass, where all manner of pointy, stabby things await. Plus something much, much bigger...

Expect some ambushes and sneaky sniping

If an ominous eyeball pops up in front of you, just smack it with a frying pan, you'll be fiiiiiiine
Weapons:
A good DLC isn't complete without some new ways to mess up your enemies, so we're introducing two-handed weapons for the first time, including a hard hitting scythe:

Subtlety really isn't an option with this one

This should offer you another way to experiment with your playstyle, but as it restricts you to one weapon we may need to tweak the system in the future. For now just have fun with it and let us know what you think.
How much is it?
Pricing is $4.99/4,99€ (or equivalent). If you haven’t actually tried the game yet but want to catch up, then the main game is currently on sale with a 30% discount. A bundle of the main game and DLC is also on offer with a 10% discount at the moment.

As always, we're super excited to read your feedback about the content we're adding to the game. That’s all for now, enjoy the DLC and we’ll be back soon with more free content.

Thanks,
Matt, Evil Empire and Motion Twin

The Bad Seed DLC is landing in 3 days

Guess what's coming soon?

Hey all,

Just putting a quick reminder out that our new DLC is landing very soon - 11th February - we hope that you’ll enjoy it! We gave some details about its content in our last update, so check that one out to get more info, or you can see an overview on the DLC page here.

Can't wait to see you all use that fricking weapon...

It's available to wishlist now and we would greatly appreciate any extra additions, if you haven’t already put it on yours.

In the meantime, we wanted to share with you a collection of comics done by RafChan summing up her experience exploring the Arboretum and trying to make that damn Oud work.

Dead Cells owners get 10% off ScourgeBringer.

Hello everyone,

While we're busy here making sure we're ready for next week's release, our good friends from Flying Oak Games have just published their new game on Steam ScourgeBringer in Early Access.

We met a few times with the good folks behind it and were lucky enough to play it during its development, and it's loads of fun jumping and slashing the poor mobs that get in your way.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Eurogamer described it as 'Dead Cells meets Celeste', which is giving us more honor than we deserve, but it does feature intense fast-paced 2D combat, damn pretty pixel-art and super smooth controls.

That said, I'm going back to work on the Bad Seed, but I leave you in good company:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
It's an orchestral tribute to Dead Cells' music, recorded live and performed by the Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra. It took place at The Abbey on the 12th of September 2019 and is now available on our Youtube channel.

Cheers!
Joan, EE and the MT team.

The Bad Seed DLC launches Feb 11th!

The Bad Seed key art - by Michel Donze

Hey all,

Hopefully everyone who’d been hounding us about the earlier versions of Dead Cells has now been basking in the nostalgia of the Legacy Update. For those of you that have been looking forward to tearing through something shiny and brand new - the Bad Seed DLC now has an official release date of February 11th 2020 at 6AM PT.

If you can’t wait until the release date, you can check out some of the new content in the gameplay trailer and concept art below:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]Please take care of your new babies

As previously mentioned we are introducing two new early-game biomes to freshen up your runs as well as a host of new enemies and weapons, some unseen mechanics and a giant boss, so there’s plenty for you to explore.

In case you really don't want to miss the release, you can hit the wishlist button on this page and you will get a nice Steam email when it's out and ready to be played.
Upcoming AMA:
Got any burning questions? Well, we’re running another AMA on Reddit on 11th February at 15:00 CEST, so pop in and have a chat if you’re around.
Bundles:
There will be a ‘complete the set’ option available if you already own Dead Cells, which will save you 10% on the DLC. If you haven’t bought Dead Cells yet (shame! shame!) or if you know friends/family/coworkers/random people on the street who haven’t played, there will also be a full bundle of the main game + The Bad Seed coming out, which will also save you 10%.
Twitch Extension:
Anyone who has streamed the game with viewers helping you out as the relentless Captain Chicken knows that the chat can get a bit… spammy. We have an extension coming very soon that will cut this out, so watch this space.
There’s much more that we want to add to the extension in the future to make streaming the game a smoother experience for you and your viewers, and if you have any thoughts or requests then give us a shout through these channels:

Thanks!
Matt, Evil Empire and Motion Twin
Community Highlights:
Finally, we haven’t included any fan art for a while so here are two awesome pieces that we’ve spotted recently.
