Dead Cells' designer livid at former studio for ending support for the game in 'worst a**hole move imaginable'




Late last week came the news that, seven years after its early access release, original developers Motion Twin and DLC developers Evil Empire will be ending work on Dead Cells. Evil Empire was set up as a satellite studio to support the game and had been working on it for over five years, creating four DLCs and 18 updates including the recent (and excellent) Castlevania crossover, but now says it's moving on to "secret projects"...

Dead Cells will be finished with the upcoming Update 35

Motion Twin have announced that the upcoming Update 35 for Dead Cells will be the end, so it will be actually finished and complete with no more content updates.

Dead Cells to receive its final update as devs move on to new "secret projects"

Dead Cells developers Motion Twin have announced their roguelike Metroidvania will receive its final update with the launch of the appropriately titled Update 35: 'The End Is Near'. It's been a pretty great run as these things go: over the course of seven years, Dead Cells has received four major DLC expanions, a mobile release and, of course, 35 of those big title updates. However, current custodians Evil Empire are now moving on to greener, "secret projects"-flavoured pastures - the emphasis being on pastures plural there, if their Xweet about it is anything to go by, too.

Dead Cells is calling it quits 7 years after its meteoric early access release




Seven years after its early access release and five years after Evil Empire took the reins from the original devs at Motion Twin, Dead Cells is hanging up its spurs. In a statement earlier today, Evil Empire announced it "will no longer be working on Dead Cells" following a half-decade of work on the game. A corollary statement from Motion Twin declares Dead Cells' upcoming update 35 "the end of our creative journey on the game"...

Dead Cells update 35 marks the end for one of Steam's best roguelikes

One of the best roguelikes ever is about to come to a close, as developer Motion Twin confirms that Dead Cells update 35 will be the last for the Metroidvania-inspired action platformer. Since its early access launch in May 2017, Dead Cells has racked up an astonishing, 'overwhelmingly positive' 97% Steam rating from over 125,000 user reviews, and has only gotten better with dramatic system overhauls and expansions up to and including 2023's glorious crossover Return to Castlevania DLC.
