Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) News

Alpha Reached.

Special dispatch, April 15, 2020.

Gen'l,

We're glad to report, that Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) development is advancing as planned and we have reached Alpha-stage. This means that the game has now all the main features implemented. The final leg of the march towards Summer 2020 is now underway. Huzzah!

During the coming months we will be adding the final assets in the game and will be busy hunting and squashing bugs, improving the code, optimizing, and adding the playable content. We will also be sharing more information in our development blog, as well as releasing some new images and footage from the game - so stay tuned.

Recently we have released two new videos, which You can find below. They show the last pre-alpha -footage of the game, in form of a trailer, as well as a campaign story video, where you can see the epic re-enactment footage from Richmond, Virginia based LionHeart FilmWorks - be sure to also check out their YouTube channel, which is full of great historical videos from the Civil War to modern times! These campaign videos will be used to tell the story of the Civil War, as it unfolds.

We thank You for the continuous support! Onwards to Summer!

I am, sir, Your very ob't se'v't,

O. KEPPELMÜLLER, Gen'l. Engineer Corps.

PS. A lot of followers have asked about the historical fonts we're using in the game UI. For some, 19th-Century cursive is difficult to read, so we've lately added an option to switch to an easier to read font, if one wishes to. We'll keep on tracking the feedback and taking it into account the best we can!

Release Date set to Summer 2020!

When we started the work on Grand Tactician, in late 2016, we had quite a clear view of what kind of a game we’d like to create. Busy development has been underway ever since. Though not everything has gone according to plan.

Actually, we’ve been fortunate enough to run into great, generous and creative people, with whom we’ve had the pleasure to work with, to further improve our game.

For example, when we started the audiovisual aspects of the game were much more humble. But with brilliant efforts from the artists we work with, and of course our own Peter, who joined the team on the move, we’ve been able to add a lot to the game, from original soundtrack to the beautiful colorized commander images, historic style drawn maps and campaign videos, which we did not dare to dream of when starting the project.

We’ve also received a lot of positive feedback from our followers, including some really interesting ideas for game play. We’ve already been adding some of this into the game.

But unfortunately, as a small team of independent developers with day jobs, all this means some more development time is needed. We want to make things properly, so instead of cutting content and rushing production, we’ve decided to push the originally planned release date of late 2019 a bit further, to summer 2020. This will allow us to deliver good quality and balanced game play without risking another unfinished early access title.

Though, for the eagerly awaiting future Grand Tacticians the situation could be as nerve wrecking as waiting for McClellan to move was for mr. Lincoln, we feel the wait will be worth the unfortunate disappointment, as the other option has 2nd Bull Run written all over it. At this point we’ve locked all the features, so it’s easier to estimate the remaining development time. And we’ve also stored a good bunch of ideas for free post-release implementation!

So one more season in winter quarters, and then prepare to move through the gap!

We will continue spilling the beans as we progress, like before. And we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our followers for the great support given to our humble project of passion!

And as before, we will keep you updated on the development progress via our Developer's Blog. With 2019 drawing to end, we are planning on releasing more information about the campaign game play, as well as first campaign footage from the game.

General, thank You for supporting Grand Tactician!
