Beta 14.9.1 Test - Prologue Updates

Today's test build includes some big updates to the prologue quest.
  • You can now save while in the prologue. Technically the stronghold is a "dungeon" in that it's underground and HammerHelm doesn't let you save the game while underground. So I updated the save system to permit saves while in the stronghold.
  • You can now load a save from the prologue and continue the quests as normal.
  • Added the doors to the stronghold rooms. These unlock as the quest progresses. They also serve as a big optimization to the stronghold as assets behind the doors are no longer drawn.

This work pretty much concludes the prologue work as well as the updates to the existing Scarecrow and Orc quests. I need to test those two quests some more to make sure they update correctly before moving on to continuing the work on the new quest line.

Gif of optimization with the doors. Note game speed sped up 150% to reduce file size.

If you get a chance to try out the prologue I'd love to get some feedback on the map. Is it too dark? Too light? How does it run compared to other dungeons or the main world map? Etc.

You MUST make a new character to play this content. Do not load an existing save if you grab this build.

If you would like to check out the new content, you can get it by doing the following:
1. In the Steam Client Library where it lists all of your games, right click on HammerHelm
2. Click Preferences
3. In the window that opens, select the "Betas" Tab
4. Enter the password to download this build - StoryTest2021 - and click Check Code
5. You should get a message that the code is correct
6. Click the drop-down box and select BigUpdateTest

Steam should immediately start a new download with the test client. The new game should be called "HammerHelm [bigupdatetest]". Once the download is complete you can launch the game and you should see "Beta 14.9" in the title screen.

To get back to the main build:

1. In the Steam Client Library where it lists all of your games, right click on HammerHelm
2. Click Preferences
3. In the window that opens, select the "Betas" Tab
4. Choose “None” from the drop down
5. Steam should then revert back to the main client
