Beta 14.7.2 - Movement and Controls

Tonight's update adds some improvements to movement and controls.
  • You can now attack or dodge roll immediately after blocking an attack. Previously there was a small delay caused by the animation that would make it appear that your next action didn't work.
  • Reworked the jump system to allow better controller customization. Also fixed a bug that caused the character to move really fast when jumping a lot in a row.
  • Remapping the cancel button on controllers will no longer lock you out of using UI.
  • Fixed some blocking areas for the cliffs in the Orc Quest map.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the controller marker to remain when reading the note in the Strange Activity Quest.
  • Opening and closing the settings menu will no longer cause the overworld music to restart.

I'm also making some good progress on a more involved quest dialog system. I should have a mockup for it soon to show all of you along with some information about what it is and how it will be used!

Beta 14.7 - Music and Sound Control Update

Tonight's build is an update to the way sound and music are handled in HammerHelm. This change makes the sliders more accurate and fixes a few bugs related to sound and music.

Note because of this change you will need to set new settings for sound, music, and footstep sounds.

The "mute music" button has been removed from Settings as it is no longer necessary.

This was a really big change to audio in the game and in addition to improving how the sliders work, I also normalized a bunch of the sounds. So if you notice a sound is either too loud or too quiet relative to other sounds, or if a sound doesn't appear to be affected by the slider settings, please let me know.

Beta 14.6.2 - Quick Fixes

A small build to fix some bugs:
  • Fixed a bunch of localization bugs related to some crafting items.
  • Reassigning controller buttons will no longer lock you out of selecting buttons in the UI.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the "esc" key/button to open your inventory if you used the key to close your inventory.
  • Fixed a few localization bugs in the Orc Quest.

Most of this week has been focused on building out the new level for the story that I've talked about a bit before. It's coming along nicely and I hope to maybe show a sneak peak of it soon!

Beta 14.6 - New World Map

Today's update includes the new World Map feature!



The world map now shows the major static locations, such as your town, Shaydee's shop, Willow Grove, and more. Some of these update after you complete a quest, such as Shaydee's Shop initially just says "construction" when you mouse over it, but once you help Shaydee build his shop, the text updates. Similarly, Grrrumble's cave initially isn't on the map, but once you meet him, his location is permanently added.

Any quest locations outside of town and any quests where you need to speak with an NPC get a quest marker. Note not all quests have a quest marker. Most of the quests that require you to do something in town (such as the Broken Sewers quest or quests that ask you to use the Metalworker's furnace) don't have quest markers since they are in your town and the marker wouldn't be super helpful anyway. Also quests like the Cursed Trees don't have a quest marker since you can chop down any tree near the town. But quests with monster spawners, dungeons, caves/mines, and most others have quest markers added.

Your facing also updates to reflect which direction you are looking relative to the map.

This update also includes some fixes:
  • Fixed a bug that caused some extra buildings to appear on the map.
  • Fixed a bunch of localization issues related to the Orc Quest.
  • Fixed some controller input and mapping bugs.
  • Fixed a bug that quest the second part of the "Big Distraction" quest to display text for the third part.

A more useful world map has been a big community request and I am super excited to have it live now. Thank you again everyone for the feedback and support!
