Beta 9.1.1 - Tree Fixes and More

Beta 9.1.1 fixes the issue where trees on sloping terrain would sometimes appear floating above the ground.

This build also includes some other fixes and changes:
  • Changed the Quest Complete font to match the font in the new UI.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Hunter to fail to return to her hunting spot after completing the Hunted Hunter quest.
  • The delete buttons in the character selection UI are grayed out if there is no character in that slot.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the character to get stuck after jumping a lot.
  • You can now highlight the close button in the character selection UI using the controller and close the UI.
  • Some general cleanup to make sure the highlight letting you know what is selected when using a controller is visible.

Beta 9.1 - Controller UI and More

Today's build includes some updates to controllers and the new UI system as well as some other changes and fixes.

  • Using the controller to select items in your equipped slots and in treasure chest slots will now display a pop-up message about the item.
  • Pop-up messages for items appear at the bottom of the inventory UI rather than floating over the item itself.
  • You can no longer build above the maximum number of a building right after building the last one.
  • Added back the message letting you know to equip your weapon if you attempt to attack without one.
  • The Necromancer no correct remains still in the Necromancer Tower.
  • Added buttons for Discord, Twitter, and the Steam news page to the Title Page UI

Beta 9.0 - New UI!

Beta 9.0 includes the big new UI update!

In addition to a new look, the new UI is also more efficient. On my development machine I saw a 10% increase in framerate when using the new UI vs. the old UI!









Note right now I have the Orc UI turned off (other than the quest boxes) as I want to rework it to fit better with the new UI. There are still a few other things I want to do, such as changing the way the tabs work in the build menu, but I wanted to get this out to all of you and see what you think.

I also again want to give a big shout out to Soedesco for helping me find the new look!

Beta 8.3.2 - Moods and Building Fix

Today's update fixes a couple of bugs:
  • Having very low mood now only blocks the building of houses, rather than all structures.
  • Fixed a bug in the Orc Quest that caused the Build Orc Huts quests to not complete if you built Orc Huts prior to getting the quests of if you built more than one Orc Quest after completing the quest to build a hut.

I also reduced the mood rating threshold for when the homes become unbuildable. After the Meaningful Moods update added the lower mood for things like fresh water and lack of beauty, I neglected to account for that with this threshold.

WIP - New User Interface

In addition to working on new content, fixes, and optimizations, we've also been working on a new UI!

I've been very lucky to work with a designer at Soedesco on cleaning up and improving HammerHelm's UI. It's awesome to have support like that!

The new look is much cleaner than the current look. The icons are nicer and don't need the white outline that the current icons use to stand out. The icons are shots of the actual 3D objects (just like now) but I'm spending more time lighting them and making sure they look sharp. Also getting rid of the transparency should help performance a bit. And the new font is way more readable and less boring than the current default font.

Of note, the compass is being replaced with the new look in the upper right. This will also help performance as the current compass is basically a second camera. You'll also notice the quests look a bit different too, with the main quest open and the other two collapsed. Tabbing between quests will open the active quest.

Not pictured, but I'm also working on some smaller updates to make the UI more controller friendly (especially for pop-up information) and using the tabs in the build menu. So the changes aren't just the aesthetics.

This is all still in progress (the shots above are mock-ups) and I'll be working on this in the background while I continue to fix and optimize stuff.
