Beta 4.0 - Night of the Scarecrows

HammerHelm's third annual Halloween event is live in Beta 4.0!

Time has stopped and night is eternal. Your townspeople have strange pumpkins on their heads that won't come off. And a Lich has visited the town, threatening to return with his Scarecrow minions once he gains more power from the night!

Travel to the Lich's haunted island. Explore his mansion while avoiding traps, figuring out puzzles, and defeating his Scarecrows. Lure the Lich out and defeat him to restore daylight and order to the lands!



The Night of the Scarecrows event will run until Nov 11. Note that the quest will remain in the game after that, but the special reward - the Lich's staff - will ONLY be available to those who log in during the event. This means you don't have to finish the event to be eligible, just log in to HammerHelm.

The Lich's head trophy and the Scarecrow head trophy will remain as rewards for the quest after the event.

Also, if you log in during the event, all characters, present and future, will get the staff (which is a placeable light-source for your home!) once completing the quest.

If you are using a new character, you'll get the Scarecrow quest after completing the tutorial and the Shaydee Business quest. For existing characters, the Scarecrow quest will be the next quest you get.



Be on the lookout in the next couple of days as I'll be posting a new Roadmap that includes some tweaks to combat, more controller support, the new Early Access hair styles, a world map, new story quests, and more!

Night of the Scarecrows Starts Tomorrow!

The Night of the Scarecrows Halloween event is set to begin on October 29th at 7pm Pacific Time!







Travel to a mysterious island, explore a haunted mansion, and find the source of the eternal night!

Start the event before it is over (Nov 11) to get the limited edition Lich Head Trophy and the Lich's staff as a placeable lightsource in your house!

Beta 3.9 - Dash Attack Updates and Fixes

Beta 3.9 includes changes and fixes for Dash Attack.
  • Fixed a bug that caused monsters to continue sliding backwards after are knocked down by a Dash Attack.
  • Increased the knock back distance and timer for Dash Attack.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Dash Attack to not use the special attack cooldown timer.
  • After performing a Dash Attack, the cooldown timer will full up faster (similar to when using a Kick)
  • Dash Attack now costs 40 stamina rather than 30.

Also, a new story quest reward WIP!



I have a couple more in the works as well. Continuing to make good progress on the Halloween event too. I finished the exterior of the Haunted Mansion and the grounds around it.



I'm debating whether to focus the quest on the interior of the Mansion or add some stuff to the exterior. Likely will depend on time after testing the main quest, which takes place inside. I want to keep the event a lot tighter than the Orc Quest. Also shorter too. That way you aren't away from the town for super long.

My plan is to work on the story quests and get the new hair in the game after I finish the work on the Halloween event. Then it'll be on to controller support for the rest of the UI and likely a few other smaller things as the pop up.

Beta 3.8 - Special Attack Cooldown Tweaks

I'm sick and I can't sleep, so today we have a quick and very early morning build to adjust some aspects of combat. I reduced the cooldown timer for special attacks by about half.

In addition the timer will go even faster after using the kick attack. I want the kick attack to be more useful and with the long timer it was almost always better to just use your power attack.

These cooldown timer tweaks should let you use your special attacks more often and use more of them. I might do a small balance tweak since these changes essentially increase your damage output, but for now I want to see how the system feels with just the cooldown timer tweaks.

Work continues on the Halloween event as well. Haven't done much the past couple of days due to the aforementioned illness, but I did get a good portion of the build out completed for the interior of the mansion earlier in the week. Still on track for the October 29th launch!

Night of the Scarecrows WIP

Got some great assets to help speed up making the haunted mansion interior and wanted to show some progress. Goal is to create a bunch of rooms, some with monsters, others with traps, and some with puzzles.

This is a base room that I'll use to make more specific rooms with different decor. Probably going to brighten it up a bit too, but making good progress.

Also, as you can see, the new Scarecrows are set up and in game!

The event starts October 29th!
