Beta 3.4 - Some Fixes and Logging

Before I get into the bug fixes in this build, I want to talk about some logging that I added to the game to help track down a couple of bugs that I haven't been able to reproduce, but really want to to fix!

The two bugs I am tracking are:
  • Key presses become unresponsive. Meaning trying to open your inventory, or open the Escape menu, doesn't work.
  • Speaking to an NPC causes your character to continue moving past the NPC.

I've had a few people report these but after testing for two days they aren't happening to me.

If either of these do happen, you can press right-alt and L to add some information to the output_log file. You can then close the game and send me that file. Instructions for how to do that are here:

This might help me track down what is going on as I continue to try to get them to happen on my end. These bugs suck so they are my top priority. I'm also working the Halloween event but I'll be looking out for these bugs as I test that too.

The fixes in this build are:
  • The Necromancer will now always take damage when hit with his spell.
  • Fixed a bug that caused petting Nika the Dog to not play the animation,
  • Fixed a couple of bugs related to ambient sounds. The toggle to turn them off now works correctly and they will no longer play when inside a dungeon, cave, or other underground location.

Beta 3.3.1 - Monster and Input Fixes

Build 3.3.1 includes:
  • The dungeon counter for monsters left will no longer fall below zero.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the orc Quest to fail to advance after defeating the Orc Boss.
  • Fixed a missing icon bug for the alert letting you know the town is out of food.
  • Added some checks to fix an issue that caused inputs (such as opening inventory, opening the town manager, etc.) to fail to respond.

For that last bug, I haven't been able to reproduce it, but I have a hunch for what might cause it. And if I am right, this update should fix it. If it does happen to you please let me know and I'll keep looking for it.

Coming Soon - Night of the Scarecrows

Something strange is happening in the world of the HammerHelm Dwarves. Night is eternal, the moon shines an eerie orange, and day refuses to come. Oh, and all of the townspeople have jack-o-lanterns on their heads that won't come off!
  • Travel to a mysterious, spooky island!
  • Battle Scarecrows, Zombies, and Skeletons!
  • Explore a haunted mansion full of traps, puzzles, and enemies!
  • Find the Lich who has stopped time and bring daylight back to your world!
  • Earn the special rewards - the Lich's head and his magic staff to display in your home!






The Night of the Scarecrows Halloween event will start October 29th and last about three weeks! The special rewards will be limited to anyone who starts the quest before the event ends.

I will likely post a work in progress build for those who want to help test once I have part of the quest up and running.

Beta 3.3 - Monster Updates and Fixes

Beta 3.3 includes some fixes to monsters in dungeons and caves as well as some general improvements to monsters, specifically mages.
  • Fixed a bug that caused monsters to become unresponsive when spawned underground, such as in a dungeon or cave.
  • Reduced the monster "floating" that occurred when monsters first spawned.
  • Updated the way mages are handled to improve their attack reliability. Before this, mages would sometimes stop attacking.
  • Some small tweaks to monster AI in combat.

And I'm still working on that announcement I mentioned the other day. I haven't forgotten! Should have it ready today or tomorrow. :)

Beta 3.2.1 - Walls and Character Creation Fix

Tonight's build includes all of the updates that were in Beta 3.2, along with the fix to character creation that caused me to revert 3.2. The update also includes a couple of things related to Walls and Towers.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the mood buff from having walls, towers, and stone entrances to not display.
  • If your town has 10 or more walls, towers, and entrances, your townspeople will no longer get the mood debuff from nearby monsters.

As a reminder, beta 3.2 included:
  • Added a short invulnerability timer that starts after you are hit and take damage. This timer reduces the chance of two or three monsters all hitting you at the same time and all causing damage.
  • Fixed a typo in the broken axe quest.
  • Removed the height increase that was added to a character's position after starting a new game or loading a save.
  • Reduced the frequency of new quests after completing a quest if you still have at least one quest still open. This is to help reduce the feeling of quest spam if you complete a quest right before the timer wants to give you a new one.
