Scarecrow - WIP



We're working to finish up the new monsters, starting with the Scarecrow. A quick peek at the new scarecrow model work-in-progress. Really loving the personality this guy has. Can't wait to replace the placeholders with him!

Once he's done, the Lich is next! And then we'll be done with the planned new monsters. So after that, we're going to work on something I've been wanting to get to for a while. Some more hair styles (fun stuff like mohawks and asymmetrical styles) with at least a couple reserved for early access players!

New Combat System Update

Making some good progress and taking the prototype and turning it into something that you all can try out. I have monster movement, strafing, and dodging in. Also added some logging right to the screen so I can see what the monster is doing to help debug and refine it. Added some simple damage tracking too.

Next up is to redo the monster attack, monster block, and monster reactions.

Reactions are things for monsters, like "I just dodged backwards, do I stay where I am, run back into melee, or immediately do a special charge attack".

Some monsters will tend towards one way, such as after dodging backwards, Ratmen might usually hang back, Orcs might charge right back in, and Goblins might do a charge attack hoping to catch you off guard..

Once you learn a monster's tendencies you can adjust your decisions accordingly. So against a Ratman, you might do a dash attack after they dodge because you know they probably won't follow up. Whereas against an Goblin, you might be prepared to block in case it does a charge attack immediately after jumping back.

Hoping to have this on a test map next weekend. That might be a bit aggressive, so we'll see. :)

Beta 1.8 - NPC Selection and Tutorial Update



Today's build includes an update to the NPC UI and some additional direction in the part of the tutorial related to assigning a townsperson to a job.
  • In the Town Management UI, you can now click anywhere in a townsperson's area to select them rather than only on their portrait.
  • Added some additional information about how to assign a townsperson a job after getting some feedback that it wasn't clear.




Edit: Just released Beta 1.8.1 which fixes (for good) the bug that causes the Dwarf to appear when you are playing as an Orc.

Beta 1.7.2 - Quest System Fixes

Another quick build to resolve a few issues related to the quest system.
  • Fixed the bug that caused the cursed farm mist to remain even after finishing the quest. If your game is stuck in this state, loading your save with this build will also clean up the curse mist.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the quest system to add quests to the added quest tracker (this decides what quests you can have) that were already added. This would result in having a TON of the same quest in the system. Removing this should also speed up saves a bit as the large quest list would take longer to save.
  • Removed a couple of things from the save system related to quests that didn't need to be saved since the system rebuilds them from scratch every time you load a game. This should also speed up saving a bit.

Beta 1.7.1 - Petting the Dog


Tonight's update includes the ability to pet Nika the Dog!

I'm making good progress on redoing the buildings to use the new structure building system. It's the kind of thing that requires all of them to be updated before I can release it.

Also started on the combat prototype that I plan to release with a test map for all of you to try. Going to keep it simple at first and then expand on it after I get all of your feedback.

Since a lot of what I am working on is a bit larger than the usual updates I figured I'd release the dog petting now rather than wait. Plus it's cute. :) I'm also likely going to work on a bunch of smaller things while I work on the building and combat systems rather than wait until they are done.
