VNE 2022 Beta now public!

A lot of have fundamental changes have been made to the editor as well as a full rewrite. See the BETA announcement post about changes. This update brings the main build up to date with the beta build as it is pretty stable now. Visit the discussions / discord for feedback!

VNE Beta Available Now!

Hey there! It's been a really long time since the last update. A realllllly long time.

I'm pretty proud of the new 2022 beta update to VNE. The beta is a complete rewrite of the entire engine using a different language entirely focused on performance and customizability.



This new engine is fully backwards compatible with all the VNs created with the older version. You can access the new beta by using the code "betabuild2022" under the BETAS tab for your Visual Novel Engine steam installation. Currently the beta is available on Windows as well as Linux (via Proton). Exporting currently supports Windows if you have the Export DLC.

I plan to backport all existing VNs from the old database into the new one as well as the submissions that I was not able to approve. Consider them approved!

If you encounter any bugs or have any feature requests I will be active in the community Discord as well as Steam Discussions!

I plan a lot of feature expansion for VNE including controller / steam deck support, RPG game elements, and interactive game blocks (with built-in map editors as well), the list goes on so if you have anything for me to prioritize please let me know!

Most importantly, the double text display bug has been completely fixed! ;)

Major Editor 2.0 Update!

Finally, the drag n' drop editor update is now live! Along with this brand new editor, there are also a couple of new features as well as some highly requested fixes that will make playing and creating visual novels with VNE extremely fun!

The long awaited major editor update will be released very soon!

Update 1.2

This update is a minor bugfix as well as a maintenance release for VNE. A couple of highly reported issues have been fixed as well as some minor improvements to get VNE ready for the big drag n' drop update!


- [FIXED] Download & Play not loading/crashing for some users
- [FIXED] The creator help button "?" has now been fixed for all platforms.
- [FIXED] The export button malfunctions when not used with the share button causing corrupt visual novels to be exported.
- [IMPROVED] Cut the main program in half (the filesize is now almost half it's original thick size)
- [IMPROVED] Made all the necessary backend changes to get the drag n' drop update ready when it's ready!
