Cryptozoologist's Diary. Continuing the study

Fascinated by previous findings, our nameless cryptozoologist continues to study the creatures of Granichny. This time not all mutants are aggressive killing machines -- which serves to show that the island has its own unique ecosystem, and not just an army of bloodthirsty mutants.

Sapsy

Medium sized, four legged creature with drop-shaped body and a row of spines running on its back. Despite its feeble looks, sapsy has an extraordinary amount of strength. One case in particular mentioned how sapsy managed to nearly destroy a steel bar from the cage it was contained in. This beast is predatory and also incredibly aggressive. While the creature prefers meat, it also does seem to be an omnivore.
Its saliva has unique restorative properties and could potentially be used in creating new medicine. Unfortunately, in its natural form saliva interacts differently with epidermis and muscle fibers. While accelerating healing rate for skin wounds, it has an opposite effect on muscles, causing a deep necrosis in the tissue. Though, sapsy seems to use the saliva to heal its own wounds without any side effects.
Sapsy is very hard to fend off from -- it has no fear and seems to only become more and more aggravated. Many encounters with the beast point to the fact that sapsy relies more on its eyesight. It is highly advised not to underestimate this creature when encountered as it may easily result in death.

Churaka

Quadrupedal herbivore that very vaguely resembles a common pig. Cowardly and timid, churaka tries to flee in the faintest sense of danger. Previously inhabiting european forests, about 50 specimen were transported to Granichny for studying in close to natural conditions. Mutations caused by Day X changed the creature’s physiology, but did not have any noticeable effect on its behavior.
Churaka is surprisingly agile and fast, so blindly chasing it proved to be rather difficult. According to different reports, it may also possess exceptional reflexes that allow churaka to dodge even a shot from a firearm. The creature also uses an incredibly loud and high pitched screech to confuse its pursuer. While the screech is not strong enough to rupture one’s the inner ear, it is still dangerous since prolonged exposure can deal irreversible damage to hearing organs. Churaka’s scream can also attract other, more dangerous creatures. Because of this, in most cases it is best to leave the beast to its own devices.

Quacker

Quacker has very deceptive looks: bulky front body with scaly skin, glowing overgrowth on its head and a huge mouth. Yet it is a very peaceful herbivore creature that’s easily scared. Quackers might be the animals whose appearance was affected the most by the transformation after Day X. Prior to the event they’ve had much more appealing looks and were covered in short fur. Quacker’s area of inhabitat has also changed -- from forest groves to bogs. The creature’s diet mostly consist of roots and low-growing plants.
Quackers have a very keen hearing which they use to avoid danger. The creature can notice even a faintest crack of a broken branch or a shallowest breathing. Hunters that attempt to catch it have to be incredibly patient and careful.
Quackers are a popular source of food among people of Granichny. The creature’s meat is stiff and contains a lot of ‘Moss’ when fresh, but after proper heat treatment it becomes more than edible. Quacker’s skin is also used in craftsmanship, bolstering great durability. The New Light Conglomerate even holds plans for possible domestication of these creatures after condition of Granichy becomes more stable.
