Cryptozoologist's Diary

The island of Granichny contains a lot of mysteries. And on par with anomalies, the most common ones are its endemic lifeforms. Mutated after the catastrophic event known as Day X, these creatures have ghoulish appearance and behave quite aggressively. But what if someone wanted to study them as a cryptozoologist? Let’s imagine how his notes would look like in today’s post!

Madmen
Once completely normal human beings, they’ve lost all traces of their personality after the Day X. In their usual state Madmen usually aimlessly roam around without any purpose, mumbling random words and phrases devoid of any meaning. Such behavior led to multiple cases where people, out of compassion or other personal reasons, thought it was possible to reach out to madmen and help them regain their sanity. This was, frankly, not possible - and those who tried to help these creatures found themselves in dire situations, which sometimes led to their death. It all ties to a fact, that if madmen see a human unaffected by impact of Day X, they go into an uncontrollable rage, trying to attack the survivor. And while a single madman poses little threat, these subjects can somehow communicate between each other, calling out for their kin in case of a human encounter.
The state that madmen are in is believed to be caused by the green substance called ‘The Moss’. Speculations suggest that the liquid accumulating inside the madman’s lymphatic system causes a mutation and maybe, somehow, makes its victim a part of cognitive network of Madmen.

Dorgs
Incredibly aggressive creatures who are relentless and fearless in pursuit of their victim. Most researchers agree that dorgs a result of stray dogs and wolves mutating after Day X. Similar to packs of other canines, dorgs roam in packs and form some sort of hierarchy with the ‘alpha-beast’ in the lead. Although, encounters with them show that dorgs do not disperse after having their alpha slain, unlike packs of dogs and wolves . Apart from this, dorgs act like the regular wildlife creatures -- they have their own resting spots, hunting grounds and pretty standard behavioral patterns.
Having no fur and skin, their heads consist only of muscle tissue and bones, resembling that of an insect. Just like other mutants, bodies of dorgs are imbued with ‘The Moss’, spread throughout the entirety of their internal organs. According to some researches, dorgs don’t have a brain - instead they possess what seems to be a blister, filled with the same green liquid as the rest of the body.

Grutch
Grutches were species endemic to Granichny island even before the Day X. After the events of Day X, they’ve become more aggressive and started choosing different areas of inhabitat. Grutch was a massive and dangerous beast even before the mutation, but now it poses an even bigger threat. In the event of encountering a grutch, one is highly advised against fighting him and trying to retreat instead.
Grutches somewhat resemble a common brown bear. His mouth has multiple rows of extremely sharp teeth and there are bone growths on his chin and front legs. Some grutches also have bone outgrowths on their heads, resembling antlers. Unfortunately, most of the information is based on external observations. Transporting such a massive beast is rather problematic, and dissecting him out in the field is nearly impossible due to current hostile environment of Granichny.
