Disco Destruction News

MP3 support and Spectator Mode now available!

Hello friends,

In our first update after leaving the Early Access, we're back with two new features:
MP3 Support for Custom Music
First, the long-requested MP3 support. Now, 99% of most users' libraries will work by default with Disco Destruction's importer.

You should definitely try it, if you haven't done already. Adding your own music makes the game feel so much different,

(as you can see, I imported some Japanese city-pop tracks for myself...)
Spectator Mode
As we all know, watching other people play in VR is hit-or-miss . Sometimes it looks good, sometimes (especially in games with a lot of moving around, like ours) it looks a bit dizzying to the outsiders.

That's why we added a Spectator Mode. Now, the game's window on your computer screen, will by default show a third-person camera, that will move through various angles around your club.

And there's always an option to change back to the first person view at any time, or hide all the UI overlays so that you can stream the game.

As always, thank you for your continuous support - and we'll be waiting for your feedback and comment on our Discord channel.

Until the next time,

Disco Destruction is leaving Early Access!

Hello friends,

We’re back with some exciting news and our biggest announcement yet.

We're releasing December 12th!
Two years after our first Early Access release, and after thousands of downloads, a long series of updates and a ton of feedback from our players, we’re very happy to announce the release of Disco Destruction version 1.0!

But before we continue, you can take a look at our new trailer:

About the features:

The game is now a complete and bug-free (🤞) experience: The DJ-ing, the different disc packs, the power-ups, the new “unlockables”, a “free play” mode with the ability to import your own music and much more.

We hope that you’ll find Disco Destruction to be a fun and entertaining experience, that can also be quite challenging, especially when you unlock the last disc packages.

It’s been a long way and we learned a lot. But most of all, we learned the importance of having players that enjoyed the game, as much as we enjoyed making it - and we want to thank all of you that were there since the beginning and gave us your valuable feedback.

We’ll be waiting for your thoughts, as always, in our Discord (discord.gg/VkG9Xz2) and our Steam discussion boards.

Again, thanks to all of you for your continuous support!

The July Update is here with new features (coins!) and many polishes.

Hello friends,

We’re back with another update for you and it comes with an updated gameplay element: The customer throwables. These are the coins and the… other things. Now they aren’t just decoration. They can (and will) affect your progress.

About the throwables:

The coins are now collectable, so you have to touch them to take them as “tips”.

And whenever a customer reaches the “Esctasy” state (which comes after the red one) he’ll throw a fountain of coins around him, for which you have to go into the dancefloor and collect before they disappear.

Now you have more reasons to play good music and move around the dancing area.

On the other hand, if you “play shitty music”, you’ll feel the result much more “immediately”, rather that just seeing the level fill up with cute little poopies.

In other smaller polishes:
 • we updated the level lighting so that it looks good on both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift
 • we improved the screen fading when you put your head inside walls - and we will now teleport you back to the starting position if you get lost inside the darkness :p
 • we updated the design of the main menu
 • and as always, fixed many small bugs that you probably never encountered anyway…

And with all of these, we are ready for the next update, which will introduce some new power-ups and a new type of items called “props”, that you will be able to buy and enable on each different level.

We’re making the last steps before leaving the Early Access and we’re happy to have you with us.

As always, thank you for your support!

Free Play mode is live - and much more!

Dear players and friends,

As we promised, we have another update ready for you. Let’s see what it includes:

Free Play Mode:

The number one most requested feature is here: Free Play mode!

Play music for the customers of Ouzo 54 without any time restrictions and unlimited power-ups.

Along with the “Add you own music” feature that we introduced last time, we think that now Disco Destruction is a experience that you can always come back to, and change its mood with different song styles and tracks.

Polish Round 1 is done:

Also, as you can see, the game is still in Early Access. But, we’ve almost reached the finish line.

After so many months of development, we are in the phase where we polish everything out, to give you a solid, bug-free and good looking experience.

We just finished the first round of polishing, which includes:
 • A much bigger variety of customers: It’s not going to be a “twins party” anymore ːsteammockingː Your disco is going to be visited by many different styles of customers - and as you will see, it makes a big difference in the feeling of the game.
 • Improved interactions: There’s now a specific touch point in front of your VR controllers, so that you have more precise touching and grabbing. The Vinyl case is also much more friendly to you throwing discs back at it.
 • Improved graphical assets: Some parts of the game were reworked - but this is still a work-in-progress, so expect much more in the next update.
 • Improved feedbacks: Some specific parts of the game now have much more specific prompts to guide the player better.
What’s coming after?

We’re already working on the 2nd Polishing Round, which will focus on some UIs and some graphical elements - along with the addition of some small new game mechanics.

So, let’s continue to this finish line - and we hope that you all keep supporting us with your comments and feedback.

"Add your own music" feature is live! (and some updates about us)

Dear players and friends,

You’re used to our quietness by now, aren’t you?

The truth is, it’s not something we want - but it’s the unfortunate result of physical timespace constraints: There’s only so many things two people can do in 24 hours.

But, first, to the subject:

The update

Our much requested feature "Add your own music" is live! Please play with it, test it and tell us if you like it.

Also, the feature is now limited to the Arcade mode, but we're getting a Free Play mode ready for you (soon).

About the team behind the game

As we said in the beginning, Disco Destruction is made by only 2 people.

“Limitations” have also been our fuel until now: Disco Destruction was a work of passion, from two people wanting to create something fun and meaningful and setting the base for very (!) good things in the future.

So, from one part, we’re happy to say that one reason we were “late” in our Disco Destruction updates, is that our team has been working with outside customers in various interesting VR/AR projects.

Projects like this are the basis of having a successful company that can survive and do good things.

But now, we’re back, and we have some time planned ahead, only for our game.

The next months of Disco Destruction

The current state of Disco Destruction is, in our opinion, a good enough base for the core game - but now needs a serious polishing pass. Some features that we were building will have to be constrained, so that we can polish a “very good” game out of the current “good enough”.

Our goal, is to create a polished and very fun, casual DJ game, that will also have to possibility to be a great game on upcoming standalone devices, like the Oculus Quest.

For the players/friends that have stood in our side for all of this time and gave us their feedback and support in our Discord channel (Join our Discord!) and forums, we consider them true friends - and since we know most of them by their (user)name by now, they’ll always come first in everything that we do in the future.

To all of you, thanks for everything!

Now, let’s get back to work. And (hopefully) reach our goals soon. :)
