50% Winter Sale & Dec Dev Log

[p]Hey friends![/p][p][/p][p]The steam winter sale is here and I wanted to post a sneak peak of what I've been working on for the last little bit. I'm excited about the new content and improvements going into the game, and I'm planning to have them out in beta in the next week.[/p][p][/p][p]I'll detail everything fully in the official update post, but let's take a peak into what is coming.[/p][p][/p]
Overworld
[p]I've been working hard on improving the overworld map. The UI look and functionality has seen a lot of work. I've done a pass on making more visuals for the tile art, settlement and nation icons, and floating labels.[/p][p][/p][p]Race settlement visuals have been updated to be easier to distinguish in addition to having more character. I particularly like the T'Thdir tree being visible for the Gwdir.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Labels are much cleaner and easy to read. Effort was put into making settlement and kingdom labels more distinguishable:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]I've moved the overworld interactions from the bottom-left tooltip to its own menu (like build/rooms/jobs). The tooltip was getting quite crammed as well as being difficult to navigate. There's still a tooltip to show what is under your cursor, but the actual interaction with the overworld happens on the right. Starting a new kingdom looks like:[/p][p][/p]
Turrets
[p]You can now research and build automated turrets. I plan on adding a bunch of turret types for the different races. This is one is called the Sentrene Bow. It's powered by a void crystal and all races can research it. [/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Settler Life Story
[p]I've been working on adding more depth to the game by adding more uniqueness to settlers. As they age, they are going to develop unique traits that help them stand out from other settlers. These will positively and negatively affect the settler's stats, and, in some cases, add/remove mechanics. For example, losing a hand, keeps them being able to equip an item to that hand slot, but they also become tougher as a result.[/p][p][/p]
General UI and QoL Improvements
[p]Resizable windows![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Better hotkey editing. You can now edit the scroll wheel for individual input commands.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Super cleaned up tooltips and UI throughout. And way more info on various things.[/p][p][/p][p]Improved item management. You can once again just equip items from the inventory lists by dragging them to slots. Did a ton of work trying to make item management in general way more enjoyable and easy. Left-clicking a slot will auto open the inventory and jump to the item in the list (if an item was in the slot). No more item lists inside the equipment screen. Everything just opens the item inventory now.[/p][p][/p][p]New game screen improved![/p][p][/p][p]There's lots more to show off but I want to save some things for the update post. Thanks for reading and following the game![/p][p][/p][p]-Waylon[/p]
