505 Games Anniversary, Bloodstained AMA and More

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

It’s been quite the journey to get here, so we’re taking a moment to stop and reflect. Since 2006, 505 Games has published and distributed well over 200 games, including the likes of Cooking Mama, Terraria, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Control, Assetto Corsa, DEATH STRANDING on PC and many more. We’ve had the privilege to publish titles across all major platforms of the last 15 years, starting with the likes of the PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360 all the way up to today’s major consoles, PC and streaming services.

As a team, we’ve grown significantly over the years, but remain relatively small compared to other publishers out there. And that’s how we like it! 505 Games started off as a team of 3 here in the UK but has since grown to a team of 250 worldwide, across California, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, China and Japan.

We’ve had the honour to work with so many incredible developers and co-publishers over the years and we wouldn’t be here doing what we do without them. So, we’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you, from everyone at 505 Games!

RWBY: Arrowfell is the next 2D Metroidvania from the River City Girls devs

The new game from the creators of Shantae, River City Girls, and Bloodrayne: Betrayal has been revealed as RWBY: Arrowfell - based on the popular animated series by Rooster Teeth, it's another 2D hack-and-slash Metroidvania of the type developer WayForward do very well.

The long-running RWBY animated series follows monster huntresses-in-training Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long - whose first initials give the series its name, as well as their uniform colours - as they train to become protectors of the fantasy world of Remnant.

The online anime is currently in production at Rooster Teeth for Volume 9, but RWBY: Arrowfell will be set during the events of Volume 7 and is described as "an original interactive chapter" from the show's writers. Despite Rooster Teeth launching its own game publishing division back in 2017, the game will be developed and published by WayForward, with River City Girls publisher Arc System Works publishing in Japan - who also handled BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, in which the RWBY characters made a guest appearance.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 2 is in the works

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is getting a sequel, though it will be quite some time before any solid details are released. Developer ArtPlay and game director Shutaro Lida will devise a plot for the sequel, but it is not the team's primary focus for the time being. No, that would be even more content for the original game.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night first appeared on Kickstarter, then after a successful campaign, it eventually found its way onto PC and consoles in June 2019. Its mobile port didn't arrive until December 2020, when it landed on iOS and Android.

In our Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night review, we found it to be "a somewhat lacklustre port of a great Castlevania-like game." Should you be a fan of gothic settings, RPGs, Metroidvanias, and hack-and-slash combat, you might find yourself drawn to this spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is considered by many to be a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The game not only channels the classic Metroidvania formula, as you explore a Gothic castle, hack-and-slashing demons, but it also adds its own unique twists and turns.

Recently, NetEase dropped an update for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night that allows you to play through the game as Zangetsu. This fast-paced mode changes up the core experience and lets you see the game in a new light. You do need to complete the main game first to access the new mode, but it's definitely worth your time.

That's why this week we've partnered up with NetEase to give away five Android copies of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. So if fighting your way through a Gothic castle and getting nostalgic over Castlevania sounds like a good time to you, be sure to enter down below.
