Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night News

New Playable Character!

We are thrilled to announce that the next playable (and free!) character for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is Aurora, from the blockbuster platformer RPG Child of Light!

Aurora has lost her way and awoken in a strange, dangerous new land. Armed with the Sword of Matildis and accompanied by the loyal Igniculus, she must find a way to escape. Despite the dire situation, Aurora is not alone. Johannes is on hand to help her increase her power by transmuting items she has found in chests or dropped by enemies throughout the game.

In addition to her sword, Aurora begins her adventure with the help of her trusted friend Igniculus and the directional Light Ray skill. Igniculus acts on his own and can temporarily slow down enemies or heal Aurora with a flash of light. The Light Ray uses MP and shines in front Aurora. Enemies caught in the light lock on will suffer damage.

Throughout her journey, Aurora gains power by defeating enemies and absorbing Shards. The Grade of each ability can be improved by collecting more shards of the same type and, with the help of Johannes, you can level up the Rank.

After defeating certain bosses, she will grow stronger and gain additional abilities as she ages. Each stage of her progression will add to her movement abilities and unlock previously inaccessible parts of the castle.

Starting a game as Aurora is simple. From the Main Menu, find an open save slot and start a new game. After choosing the save file name, you’ll be able to choose your starting character: Miriam, Zangetsu or Aurora. (Bloodless is chosen by naming a new save BLOODLESS in all caps).

We hope you enjoy playing as Aurora!  Thank you for playing Bloodstained!

Metroidvania Bloodstained gets free Child of Light DLC

Fans of freebies and Metroidvanias can rejoice as the latest piece of free Bloodstained DLC is due out tomorrow - and it's the long-teased crossover with another platform game. No, it's not anyone from the Castlevania series, it's actually Princess Aurora from Ubisoft's delightful Child of Light.

Way back in October last year, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night developer Artplay teased an upcoming free content update that would include a new character "NOT from the world of Bloodstained". The action-adventure game was supposed to get this "special crossover content" way back in 2020, but it kept on being put back.

Now, finally, the free Bloodstained crossover DLC is getting released tomorrow - March 31 - and it will bring Aurora from 2014's Child of Light to the game. As stated on the website, Aurora is accompanied by her wisp friend Igniculus, who can slow enemies or heal the player. Aurora's main offensive power is Light Ray, an MP-using beam that damages enemies. To play as her, just open up a new game slot and select Aurora as the character you want to play.

Metroidvania Bloodstained is still getting more free DLC

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night put an extra dash of 'vania in the Metroidvania world thanks to the influence of long-time Castlevania lead Koji Igarashi, and the devs have kept things going with a robust array of free content update - though those updates have been subject to several delays. But they're still coming, and now the devs have confirmed a few details about the next new playable character.

"We can confirm that this new character is NOT from the world of Bloodstained," the devs say in the announcement. "We have been working closely with a well-known partner to bring their character (and a friend) into the game. As with previous characters, you will be able to explore the entire map, though certain abilities will need to be acquired before some areas and bosses can be accessed. Along the way you will be able to increase the rank and class of the character's special ability to grow in power."

The Bloodstained roadmap previously put both "special crossover content" and the new playable character in the fourth quarter of 2020. Then in the first quarter of 2021. Now there's no clear release timeframe, as the developers are dealing with "major technical issues".

Production News - October 2021

Hello, Army of the Night!

We mentioned in our last announcement that we are tackling some technical issues that have slowed down our production timetable. We regret the long delay between updates and continue to ask for your patience as we make progress.
Due to these issues, we do not have a release timeframe for you yet, but we would like to share some information on what we have in the works.

Our next update will introduce a new playable character to the game. This is a change from our previously released roadmap.
We can confirm that this new character is NOT from the world of Bloodstained. We have been working closely with a well-known partner to bring their character (and a friend) into the game.

As with previous characters, you will be able to explore the entire map, though certain abilities will need to be acquired before some areas and bosses can be accessed. Along the way you will be able to increase the rank and class of the character’s special ability to grow in power.

We are excited to bring this update to you and will have a full announcement when it is closer to launch.
As previously mentioned, after the playable character is live, we expect the next update to include Chaos Mode with co-op and Vs Mode with multiplayer.

Once again, that you for your understanding and thank you for being fans of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night!

Production News

We've had a longer than expected gap since the release of Classic Mode and the Kingdom: Two Crowns crossover in January, so we wanted to give a brief update on the current state of the game.

Despite the lack of news, development on new content for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been ongoing. However, due to major technical issues that occurred in the beginning of the year, our progress has been greatly delayed. We currently are working on creating new content along with resolving these issues and are finally getting close to announcing the next content.

The next update is coming soon. More details on this update and its features will be revealed in October. Once that update has been released, Chaos Mode with Co-Op and Vs Mode with multiplayer will be next. Both of these modes are already well into development.

We are excited to bring this new content and more to you as soon as they are ready. We will share more information with everyone as we get closer to release.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to add to and improve Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night!
