Development Roadmap Update

Hello, Army of the Night!

We have updated our Development Roadmap though the first quarter of 2021. The new schedule kicks off (likely) next week with the surprise release of Bloodless as a playable character and improvements to Randomizer.

When you compare the new Roadmap with the previous one, you’ll see that several modes are now planned for the first quarter of 2021. We are still expecting the Crossover Content and Classic Mode to launch in November for all platforms except for Switch, which will drop in December. This change gives us more development time on Chaos and Vs Modes.

As always, the Roadmap is subject to change. We will always let the community know whenever the schedule adjusts.

Due to the change in the Roadmap, we thought it would be a nice bonus for the community to release Bloodless as a playable character! We should point out that Bloodless is an additional playable character. She does not replace the “???? playable character” that you see on the Roadmap.

Along with Bloodless, the next update includes a number of positive improvements for Randomizer. New behind-the-scenes ‘safety chests’ will ensure that items critical to completing a seed will be available. Additionally, the algorithm has been further updated to ensure generated seeds can be completed.

That’s it for now.

Thanks for playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night!

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on mobile is more than a straight port

iOS and Android owner's Metroidvania libraries are about to get a whole lot spookier, thanks to an upcoming port of Koji Igarashi's Castlevania-inspired Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, the action-platformer released in 2019 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch to positive fan and critical reception. Now, Chinese developer NetEase Games (Diablo Immortal, The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War) are bringing Bloodstained to mobile platforms via iOS and Android.

It isn't just a straight port, either, as NetEase is introducing a whole host of tweaks and improvements to make skeleton-smashing on mobile every bit as fun as it should be.

The port is set to feature "operation screens suitable for mobile devices, a redesigned system UI, skill shard icons, and a new achievement system." Skill shards and weapon skills, say NetEase, will be displayed on-screen with new "Gothic-style" icons. NetEase is also making it easier to perform special moves, alongside various other tweaks to make Bloodstained run as smooth as possible. You can check out all the details here.

The best game randomizer mods and modes on PC

Games are great aren't they? They throw you into vast worlds where you can save everyone from monsters and explore strange new lands. But what do you do when you've finished your game? You could just download a mod to add new things or change the game completely, and that's fine. But how about randomizing the stuff that's already in the game, like items, enemies, skills, and where you expect to find them.

Game randomizer mods are more of a recent trend, and one that's far more common with retro console or handheld games (Pokémon is probably the best known candidate for randomizer mods), but there are plenty of game randomizer mods for PC. Randomizer mods do skew somewhat towards RPGs, since changing enemy and item placement is a common theme among them, but very occasionally something a lot more unorthodox will appear from out of nowhere.

If you do wish to explore this weird, wonderful universe of randomizers, I should point out some caveats. A lot of the randomizers out there are mods that are found on Nexus Mods - which is a fairly reputable source for mods for all sorts of games, but there are also more than a few that are just uploaded to GitHub. There is very little regulation on GitHub, so they could contain malicious software. Make sure your virus protection is enabled before downloading ones from there.

Soundtrack Update

It isn't often we get to announce an update for a soundtrack, but here we are!

If you own the Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night soundtrack and have previously downloaded the FLAC version, you will notice a fairly sizable update (879.5 MB).

While you may not be able to hear a difference on your earbuds or phone speaker, these new files eliminate some audio issues. You can see the difference between the old and new versions when you analyze the audio.

We hope you enjoy the soundtrack!
