Dev News #167

Hello, Feudalists!
Although we don’t have an update this week, the dev team did not sit idly. Indeed, we keep working hard to improve and develop the quality of life in the feudal world. We are currently focused on several important fixed and tweaks, that you may expect for being released in the upcoming updates. Our foremost task right now is refining and improving clarity and convenience of user interfaces related to the domestic animals breeding. Besides that the team is working on fixing important issues with guilds’ diplomatic standings being reset. Also, we are currently solving a problem with targeting objects in certain areas of outposts.

This week we also investigated and analyzed the results of the lag compensation tweaks that we have introduced recently in the experimental mode on Arena. We want to thank everyone who took part in the testing of those improvements. We’ve gathered a lot of very valuable feedback, and now we’re working on the new iteration of the lag compensation tweaks. We want to say special thanks to player Tombo who recorded and sent us an invaluable material from the tests he performed. We are planning to launch new testing experiment when the next batch of lag compensation tweaks will be ready. Stay tuned for the news, and thank you for helping us in making Life is Feudal better!

According to your requests, our artists are working on the Healer War Banner skin. With this standard the healers will be more visible on the battlefield, this in turn will help save a lot of lives during the tough guild battles! Let us share the first screens with you (above).

Hear, hear, good people! This week we want to give new opportunity for all the glorious warriors and adventure seekers. We are happy to announce that the Caravan of the Crown will ride through Abella lands once again this weekend! Сrown organizing a fun rural fair in at the camp near the Protectorate. The celebration will begin on Saturday, August 10, 20:30 UTC. Take your friends, come to the fair to drink a glass of beer and take part in the fair activities! Guests are expected at the indicated time according to the following coordinates at the border of servers 58 and 70:

According to rumors, Caravan Master have prepared the following tasks and challenges for the visitors of the Fair:

Guard of the Caravan
Caravan and its Master have a long and not so easy route to cover, as the Crown ordered to deliver a valuable cargo of beer to a rural Fair. Unfortunately, in the dark and dense forests of Abella great number of wild animals have appeared. Worse than that, the Knools are rampaging, and marauding bandits often walk on the dusty path along where the caravan route lies. Therefore, Caravan Master is looking for brave and skilled warriors who will serve as guards, protecting the wagon from the dangers along the way and will help deliver booze to the fair! Worthy rewards guaranteed!

If you are brave enough to take this order, search for the Crown Wagon at the 20:00 UTC August 10 at the place indicated on the map in server 58:

Amusing fair fights
In order to entertain honest people, amusing fights on training weapons were announced at the fair. Rural fellows and noble sirs will have to show their boldness in fierce battles on a wooden log. The reward will find the worthy champion. May the strongest - and most agile - win!

Bushman Design Contest
The Master of the Caravan invites kind people to exercise not only in the art of combat, but also to demonstrate their thrift and creativity. The conditions of the competition are simple: contestants will have 15 minutes and an unlimited amount of materials for weaving bark boxes. The author of the most original art object will receive a valuable prize and the title of the best rural designer of the fair!

Abella Lore Quiz
And so that the sages and alchemists do not get bored at our village fair, we invite them to take part in a quiz on knowledge of the history and culture of Abella. Show off your sharp and brilliant mind and win the fight for a main prize. According to rumors, the prize is very worthwhile. The Caravan Master has a scroll containing the Knools’ secrets, but he is ready to give it only to someone wise and knowledgeable!

And now it’s time for a community spot!
First of all, we remind you that until August 12 you have an opportunity to take part in the competition for the most creative guild recruitment announcement and compete for the main prize - a decorator's kit pack for “Sanctum of the Sleeper”. We have already received several very bright, cool and creative recruitment announcements. Contest is still going on, so we won't uncover them for now, but you still have a chance to join the party and beat them all! We wish good luck to all participants! Hurry to check out the details!

Also, right now we are working on the new Wiki contributors program and invite everyone to take part in it. We will announce the details of the program in the next devblog, but all interested can already contact Catherine #3714 for more details!

And finally, we want to share the wonderful landscapes of Abella:

We wish you a great Feudal weekend!

Dev News #166

Hello, Feudalists!
As always, let’s start with the Development news. This week we have made some more visible changes that are another nod from us as a response to the feedback we gathered during the AMA. The update was heavily focused on your suggestions about crafting and farming. You will find a detailed report about the update in our patch notes.

Stonecutter's and Breeder's Outfits revealed in the devblog last week, are finally here. That means that our skilled miners and cattlemen can finally have their own professional clothes. You will be able to wear Stonecutter’s, Breeder’s, like any other Outfit, after reaching 60 points of T2 skill in their respective branch, and they will now also grant an “Inspired Work” effect. Stonecutter’s outfit increases Mining, Materials Processing, Precious Processing, and Jewelry skills. Breeder’s Outfit increases Hunting, Procuration, Animal Lore and Warhorse Training skills. You can find recipes for new working outfits in the Weaver’s Toolkit ‘weave’ crafting menu, same as for other working clothes.

Besides introducing new working outfits, as we mentioned above, this update was focused on a number of a community suggested crafting and farming tweaks. Let’s start with suggested tweaks about the time required for crafting. With this update, heating up items for smelting and brewing is now 2 times faster! Now, we hope that Breeders will be happy to know that with this update we fixed an annoying problem with pigs’ pregnancy and also that we have significantly reduced the time required for horse training. Wise alchemists can also expect some improvements in their daily routine — now your work will become much easier with the introduction of the auto-repeat option for your alchemical crafts Extracting rare ingredients from the domestic animals will now be easier as well, since this update included fix the bug with their drop. According to your feedback, we have doubled the capacity of containers for food and water in all animal husbandry buildings, except Large Stables. We keep on with the craft updates to reduce the amount of time such mundane tasks take in favor of a proper PvE action. That’s mean -— less routine, more fun!

One of the hottest topics discussed in the community this week are tweaks related to the Palisade Walls. According to the feedback we received on AMA we also nerfed Palisade Walls and few other wooden fortifications. Their resistance decreased from 400 to 150 as the cost-effectiveness of a wooden wall was way too high compared to other, more advanced types of fortifications. Our solution is to leave the price unchanged, but the damage resistance of these fortifications will be much lower, which will make it easier to destroy. The resistances of other defensive walls remain unchanged for now. We are convinced that this decision will lead to more fair and balanced in-game economics and defense mechanics, as such we don't plan to rollback the resistance of Palisade walls for now. But we take into consideration, that such sharp changes may be quite painful for some, so we will tend to introduce future tweaks in smother manner.

Well, what’s next, you wonder? We are going to reconsider Luck mechanics and we’re working on several other important fixes: dividing item stacks, optimization of animal containers (Coop, Barn, Stable). We plan to introduce these tweaks in the upcoming updates.

And now it’s time for a community spot!
Last week Coliseum opened its door for a new tournament. We are happy that guilds have put aside their differences and a lot of brave warriors participated in the contests. We congratulate these glorious and brave winners, and want to say special thanks to Mirti, Greenfire and the tournament team, who made a huge contribution to the organization of the event and continue to delight the feudal lords with new, exciting challenges!

In the fierce battle not only noble knights proved their combat skills. Village folks struck the audience with a stunning peasant shovel battle. We want to share the best moments of this tournament with you.

Thank you for your help in improving Life is Feudal!

Patch Notes (0.25.23.0)

Hello, Feudalists!
This week we happily continue with this streak of updates based on the feedback we gathered on AMA. Сurrent patch is focused mostly on your suggestions about farming and crafting.
First of all, we’ve added awaited Stonecutter’s and Breeder’s Outfits that we revealed in the devblog last week. Several important tweaks & fixes in this update are related to the crafting speed, farming nuances (such as horse training time and pigs pregnancy issues) and the auto-repeat for the alchemy crafting. Also, according to your numerous requests, we have significantly decreased resistance of the Palisade and several other wooden walls.

We have decided to make patch notes more informative, so from this point forward we will provide more detailed explanations of the tweaks, fixes and other changes we've made. Hope you like it!

Patch Notes (ver. 0.25.23.0):

New features and tweaks:
  • Added new working outfits for Hunting and Mining skill trees. Now, the two remaining skill branches have their outfits as well. As you may have noticed, the mechanics of working outfits were changed with the previous update. Our plan for the outfits was to slightly nerf the amount of bonus skill value they give while making them much more accessible.
  • Palisade walls and several other wooden walls have their resistance decreased from 400 to 150. We've received several reports that cost-effectiveness of a wooden wall is way too high compared to other wall types. As a solution, the price will remain unchanged, but the damage resistance of these fortifications will be much lower, which will make them easier to destroy. The resistances of other defensive walls remain unchanged for now
  • Reduced the time required to heat up items for smelting and brewing, which should now take half the time.
  • Reduced the maximum time of horse training from 300 seconds to 180 seconds
  • Alchemical craft can now be set to auto-repeat
  • Doubled the capacity of containers for food and water in all animal husbandry buildings, except Large Stables. We keep on with the craft updates to reduce the amount of time such mundane tasks take in favor of a proper PvE action.
  • Time consumption of abilities "Build primitive construction", "Build construction" and "Build complex construction" have been returned to their previous settings. Our intentions behind the abilities time upgrade were to speed up the PvE activities in general. Paving and building, however, affects PvP as well, which is why we've decided to take a slightly different approach with them.
Bug fixes and optimizations:

  • Pregnant pigs should now give birth before growing old
  • Outpost totems should now be placed correctly for every level of an outpost
  • Fixed (again) the inability to build or upgrade a Trading Post that could occur under certain circumstances
  • Fixed the speed of emotions' animations. They should no longer end prematurely
  • Fixed the lack of alchemical ingredients drop when slaughtering a domestic animal
  • Fixed a bug that allowed production of items with quality higher than 100

Dev News #165

Hello, Feudalists!
This week the work based on the community ideas and suggestions was continued. Our team is preparing a series of important tweaks and fixes that will be included in the next “Post-AMA” update that you can expect to be released next week. It will include fixes for accelerated abilities, durability tweaks of wooden walls, fixes for pigs’ pregnancy and quite fun bug of ability to move the outposts’ totem with the horse carts.

Another important direction of the team’s work this week was finding the solution for the issue with the lag-compensation. It is a rather complex problem, so finding the optimal formula here is a quite challenging task. We are very grateful to all players who sent us detailed reports and videos on the matter as that helped a lot in the investigation. If you also have encountered this issue and managed to record this but didn’t send the video to us yet, we would ask you to share it with any member of LiF Support team.

This week, we have prepared a number of changes that should improve the situation with lag-compensation and we invite all caring players to take part in the experiment!
From July 27 till August 03 fight on the Arena and share your thoughts of the lag-compensation tweaks we have made via this form. Please note that these lag-compensation changes are in the testing mode and available only on the Arena at the moment.

But the feudal lords do more than only wage wars and conflicts with each other. They are also attracted by much more peaceful activities, such as diplomacy and mentoring. We often receive very colorful, creative and interesting recruitment announcements from the guild leaders and their advisers. Today, we would like to share one of the most striking examples of guild recruiting that were received this week.
Just look at this amazing recruitment video that BarBariaN's Guild has made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFRE5U4rtrI

So, if you like fun combat in large scale battles, you can apply directly using the BarBariaN's Guild Discord: https://discord.gg/QTwGqne

Our feudalists have a lot of different talents, and are skilled not only in filmmaking. For example, Malton and guys from the Bad Idea Guild showed totally different approach to the recruiting. They wrote long, interesting novel about Feudal life in their guild. Just take a cup of tea and follow the amazing story of adventures of Malton and his teammates in the Feudal world!
We translated a short quote, so non-russian speaking feudalists сould also enjoy the story

6 PM. Finally. Finally my hard workday was over. I said goodbye to my colleagues, and inhaling fresh evening breeze went to the car on a parking. Half an hour later, I was at home, waiting for loading of Life update on my computer. “Hurry up!” - thought I.
    — Hey, Malton! - I heard, but in the general noise I did not understand who it was. People were running around the territory of a guild claim, dead horses were laying everywhere, wounded sat on the ground. Seeing my confused gaze, Doc nodded to me without interrupting treatment.
    — All on the walls! Archers, fire!!! - guild leader growled roaringly.

Without a second's delay, I rushed to the southeast wall. Lifting the crossbow, I leaned out into the loophole and immediately recoiled. The arrow flew a few millimeters from my head. “Oh well, get it” flashed through my head and I randomly fired a crossbow at a passing rider. I hit him successfully, blood spurted from his head and the rider fell. "One is done!". I didn’t have time to rejoice when an arrow flew right into my chest. Hurriedly hiding, I began to reload the crossbow, simultaneously trying to assess the situation. Suddenly, I noticed some movement behind the house on the west side...

The novel is still ongoing, so you can follow the thread on our forum to stay tuned to the amazing adventures of Malton and his brave guildmates! You can find the full version of novel here [RU]: https://lifeisfeudal.com/forum/topic-t49447/, or just contact author in the Bad Idea guild Discord: https://discord.gg/duKkRM4.

And how do you promote your guild and make recruitment announcements? From July 29 till August 11 “Recruiters wanted” competition will be held — a competition for the guild with the most creative recruitment. Interested? We will uncover all the details at the beginning of the next week!

And finally, in order to improve your mood before the wonderful feudal weekend, we want to share another drive remix of the LIF music, which was created by the already known to you electric bard Yarthos: https://soundcloud.com/yarthos/life-is-feudal-2-remix-trap-by-yarthos

Dev News #164

Hello, Feudalists!
This week is marked by a number of major updates in the feudal world, which we hasten to share with you.

First of all, as we announced it in our recent AMA, the full Free to Play mode was released this week. What does it exactly mean? We’re excited to say that, starting today, every player can get the full access to the game for one character and explore giant, hardcore and realistic world of Abella absolutely for free! That's not all! Every newcomer will receive a special gift, 3 days of Premium account, that will help to boost Feudal experience and make the first steps in Feudal world a little bit easier and enjoyable!

A great opportunity to gather your friends and explore the giant map and start building a kingdom that will be famous for centuries to come! And don't forget to use the Counselors Feature to get a special reward for teaching your friends!

You can share this link with your friends to download the game:

We hope that new F2P mode will bring more new players to the adventures and journeys on Godenland. We also would like to take a moment and say a heartfelt thank you to all our veterans, who were supporting us daily, from the beginning of LIF history — you guys… are breathtaking. And we will do our best to develop LIF further, improve and extend Feudal experience for all our players!

Secondly, this week we released large-scale in-game update heavily influenced by your ideas and suggestions, gathered on the AMA in the beginning of July. It is the first, “post-AMA” update, opening a series of updates, based on your comments and feedback. We are really happy with the results, and want to thank you once again for your support and feedback that is helping us in the process of improving the game! Let’s look into the details about tweaks and features that were included in this first “post-AMA” update. You can find the detailed report in the patchnotes, here we will highlight only the most important things.

One of the main features of the update is a Traveller’s Idol — a special object located in the starting villages, very much similar in terms of functionality to the Ferryman on Newbie Island, that will make it easier for you and your friends to find each other in the starting villages and to travel to the desired guild claim using a Guest code. Please, take in mind that each transfer action has a 48-hour cooldown.

You can find Traveler's idol in every starting village. We are also glad to say that the concept of such Idol was actively suggested by the community during the AMA. We really liked this idea too, and we believe that it will help the newcomers start their adventure on Abella with more comfort.

As you may have noticed, some changes have occurred outside the Protectorate zones. Something strange and mysterious is happening in Abella's dense and dark woods. It seems that some of the natives have left their villages and started scouring around, for a reason known only to these weird savages. Whatever is on their minds, the Crown recommends you to properly arm yourself before leaving your castles and settlements.

In order to protect peaceful peasants from the savages and weaken the enemy forces, the Crown has increased the reward for loot acquired in their villages. Well, even in such dark times, brave warriors skilled in the art of combat will always find an opportunity to get some gold. We want to add that scouting natives were also a community requested feature, and we hope that you will like the gameplay diversity they will bring in the territory exploration process.

Changes that are included in the updates also affected the crafting and skill progression. We have significantly reduced the time it takes to level up the skills after level 90. It should help dedicated crafters to reach desired masterpiece craft recipes and abilities with more comfort. Another important craft change added in this update is related to the Working Outfits. You have frequently asked us to tweak these clothes, and this week we have finally made some updates in this area. We have tweaked skill level required to equip a Herbalist’s, Cook’s and Engineer’s outfits. Also, Outfits now grant a bonus to every skill on the skill branch they’re used by (for example, Blacksmith’s Outfit now will give bonus not just to Forging, but also to Kilning, Armorsmithing, and Weaponsmithing). They will now also grant an “Inspired Work” effect. And more — for the most attentive feudalists we have teased Stonecutter’s and Breeder’s Outfit. We are planning to release them in the upcoming updates.

And now it’s time for a community spot!
We really liked your enthusiasm with which you began helping the Crown to obtain recipes of the mysterious natives. We want to congratulate all brave warriors who fought with those savages and recovered the secrets of Chieftains' Elixirs.

Your hard efforts were not in vain. Indeed, the alchemists of the crown learned a great deal about these potions. But to continue the research they will need more ingredients and recipes of these mysterious elixirs.
That is why Crown announced a second wave of «Secrets of Chieftains’ Elixirs» event this weekend! It is planned that Crown scouts will bring a new report with a map and information about the location of Chieftains’ Elixirs at 18:00 UTC on Saturday, 20/07. Stay tuned to the #mmo_event_feed on our Discord to be the first who will go on this dangerous adventure!

We also want to share the story of a brave warrior Siberian Bear, who for his prowess and fury in the fight against the repulsive natives can be truly called “Nightmare of the Knools” . He participated in almost all campaigns for elixir recipes. And just imagine, he single-handedly defeated a whole village of pagans located in Cet-dan region which is considered, according to bounty hunters, one of the most dangerous places in Abella.

You can learn more about his achievements in this video. We hope it will serve as an inspiration for all those who will take part in the search for Chieftain’s Elixirs this Saturday!
