Movement and Flow!

This is the early development build of the remake of Protoball. Right now things are simple and we're building up on top of the foundations. As such, at the time of this writing, customizable keybinds are not in the game. They will be soon.

WASD to move around, this also controls SPIN direction and DASH direction. You can, and should, dash/slide backwards by holding S. SPACE jumps, you get 3 jumps. While in the air press CTRL to "Fast Fall" and come to the ground faster, if you land on an enemy you'll stun them.

E catches the ball, you have more timing forgiveness in the new version. You can press E right before the ball gets to you and hold it for just a moment.

Left Mouse Button shoots the ball, click and hold to charge a full shot.
While holding the ball RIGHT CLICK to initiate a curve shot. Used WASD (can combine keys) to choose a spin direction, tap ALT to lock your spin direction in. Right click again to turn curve ball off.

Right Mouse Button brings out an energy shield. Click and hold LMB to charge the shield shot. Right click after shooting the shield to self-detonate the shield on demand.

R looks at the ball, but does not follow the ball.

Q quick lob shot, good for self passing or if you're holding a Charge and want to cancel the charge shot.

The trick to Protoball is MOVEMENT! This game is built on athletic movement. Practice getting around the arena quickly. Jump, press CTRL and hold it to go straight into a SLIDE, then JUMP again, add a DASH into the mix. Chain your abilities to get around faster.

Try looking straight up, holding W, and dashing. Maybe jump then dash, you can get vertical very fast.

You can self-pass with shields and knock the ball around the arena, or off course from scoring a goal.

The best way to practice is in 100v1, go to Play > Training > 100 versus 1 and try to see how fast you can score 100 balls. At first just practice your shots and don't worry about timing.

UPDATE TO MOVEMENT

You're faster, more agile, and more powerful! The old Protoball movement is back, dashes go further and cooldowns are faster. Go give it a try!

Fixed a bug where logging in for the first time didn't let you do the tutorial. Updated shield VFX.

Protoball is back!

Today on this Summer Solstice of 2025 (longest day of the year), we've updated the public build of Protoball on Steam!

Early Access v2 comes earlier than expected. We've been seeing some wild organic growth on Steam so we decided to give the people the current version of the remake of Protoball.

Community Game Night will return as well. This is a dedicated night each week where we host dedicated servers and the community plays together in the discord. It makes for some great times and you're all invited.

Players can also host their own Listen Servers (your performance is dependent on your network & PC) and play with their friends. We also have training modes for Free Play and 100v1 (Race against the clock to score 100 balls).

It's an early development build, the team is currently two die-hard developers dedicated to this game. It really is so much fun and if you get the hang of the controls, and the movement, and you get into a match with some friends or other testers we're sure that you'll see what makes it so magical.

A new Roadmap will soon follow.

Press Q for a quick Lob, Y to change FPP/TPP, and Right Click to initiate a curve abll, use WASD to choose curve direction, and Tap ALT to lock in your curve direction. Please do the tutorial, and then the 100v1 training.
