One of my favorite D&D videogames is still getting beefy updates after 21 years




Ever since talking to prolific Neverwinter Nights module builder Luke Scull, I've been on a Neverwinter Nights kick, working through some of the huge backlog of high-quality user-made campaigns for Bioware's 2002 RPG. While playing Swordflight, a standout hardcore, ambitious mod, I logged in one day to notice new UI elements, graphics options, and quality-of-life changes, stuff that just wasn't there before. Surely Beamdog isn't still updating its 2018 Enhanced Edition re-release, right?..

Many years later Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is still getting better

Originally released in 2002 and then later as Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition from Beamdog, many years on it's still getting major upgrades including a new Toon shader and loading speed improvements.

New Patch Arrives Today: Stable Build 8193.35 is Live!

Hello adventurers!

Today we’re releasing a new update for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition. Patch 8193.35 is the result of a year-long love effort by community developers.

[h3]Patch Highlights[/h3]
  • AOE Indicator | Spells and spell-like abilities now display a targeting indicator displaying their range and, if appropriate, their AOE shape and size
  • 8 Multiclasses | Added support for up to 8 multiclasses, configurable per-module
  • Faster Load Times | Improved area load times by up to 100x (!)
  • News Section | Added an in-game News UI that shows upcoming patches and community news
  • Script-created UI Improvements | “NUI” (script-created UI) will no longer break input to the game (WASD, drag & drop)
  • Play NWN as a Cartoon | Added a new "Toon" post-processing shader as a graphical option
  • Goodies for Builders | Hundreds of new functions and goodies for module builders
  • Hundreds of Bugfixes & Optimizations | More bugs squashed

New Development Build ready for testing

Hello, everyone!

A new patch for NWN:EE is being worked on, and you all are cordially invited to participate in playtesting—or just playing—using the new branch and its added fixes and features.

This effort is being done entirely for personal enjoyment by community members, out of good will and with copious amounts of adhesive.

This is a work-in-progress and not a full final patch release yet. The full patch notes are extensive and available inside of the game on the "News" button, as well as here: https://nwn.beamdog.net/docs/

To opt-in, please subscribe to the development channel on Steam or GOG Galaxy (Beamdog Client will follow). Keep an eye on the main menu News button, where available updates will be shown. The above link will also be kept current.
