The Server Optimization Patch

Optimization

+Implemented Replication Graphs to the game
-This should result in server performance improvements

Graphics

+New: Added a custom TAA feature, based on UE4's Temporal AA.
-A Graphics setting is available to enable or not this feature, and allows the game to look sharper and cleaner during its rendering.
-Changing the Aliasing Quality also changes the result of this feature.
+Added support for resolution 1360 x 768

Mechanics / Balance Changes

+The volume of sounds created by creatures scales less intensely beyond 1.0 growth
+Increased Apatosaurus max HP and healing rate by 50%
+Decreased Apatosaurus stomp and tail whip damage by 33%
-This will also sharply reduce injury inflicted by these attacks
+Reduced the strength of the Stomp Improvement Apatosaurus talent
+Pachy camera max zoom distance is now 50% longer
+Ichthy camera max zoom distance is now 20% longer
+Carcasses that are nearly empty now disappear more quickly to avoid cluttering servers with empty ribs that induce necrophobia

Bug Fixes

+Fixed: Some issues where Acro intimidating roar was not working properly
+Fixed: Carcasses no longer duplicate
+Fixed: Krono no longer falls on the dino select screen
+Fixed: Ptera now properly lands on the dino select screen

Anti-Cheat Hotfix 2.0

We're deploying a small hotfix to fix a couple bugs that slipped by last patch!
+Fixed: Rare client side crash related to fish
+Fixed: Players should no longer drown above water if they log in while underwater
+Fixed: Aquatic eggs should no longer drown
+Optimized server side respawning, was causing a large lag spike

Anti-Cheat Hotfix

+Fixed: A few additional ways players could cheat
+Fixed: Players should no longer get disconnected due to false anti cheat positives
+Fixed certain countries not being able to access external server, causing them to not being allowed to access the servers.
+Fixed bad specular during stormy weather on Ancestral Plains
+Fixed Eggs should work properly now

Anti Cheating
  • All known cheats no longer work on Beasts of Bermuda.
  • Players who were caught cheating via the use of third-party software have been permanently banned from all multiplayer aspects of the game.

    • Family Sharing no longer works as a method to bypass the ban
    • About 50 accounts were permanently banned for cheating on Beasts of Bermuda via the use of third
    • party softwares to gain unfair advantages over others while playing the game.



Server Administration
  • The config variable "bDisplayIntroMessage" now does something

    • Server owners can add a message of the day for their server.
    • See https://wiki.beastsofbermuda.com/Message_of_the_day for details.


  • Added the Announce command, allowing to announce something server wide.

    • This command uses the same formatting rules as "Message of the day".
    • Added a new command rules entry: EAdminCommands::Announce to control this command.
    • This can be updated on demand without rebooting the server


  • Player deaths are now recorded on the server's log, by the text PLAYER DEATH::

    • This includes their creature type, steam ID, growth level, name, and the creature type, steam ID, growth level, and name of the player that killed them


  • Score no longer displays on the player list while playing Life Cycle

    • On Life Cycle, players are now sorted by player name


  • The BanPlayer command now, by default, automatically bans the owner of a family shared game as well as the steam account being punished., given the banned player is currently online when it happens.

    • You can change this behavior by passing "false" at the end of the BanPlayer command, after the reason.


  • Added Family sharing checks for banned players.

    • This is checked on the local user when they want to access the server list as well as on the server's side when they log in.



Mechanics Adjustments
  • When logging back in a server, player will always spawn at ground level or underwater as a swimmer.
  • If non swimmer and not flyer, players will always spawn at most at the surface of water, in case a flooding is going on.

  • Added a "swap" icon on the chat box, to inform that using [Tab] allows cycling between each chat mode without entering any command.
  • Made storm surge max height higher
  • Fog will go back down after rain 4 times faster than before.

    • Also lowered the max fog gain from rain by 30%


  • Renamed "dino customization" "creature customization"
  • The Camera no longer goes under your character when you're trying to look up

    • The camera code has been reworked, and all creature max view distances are now computed in a different manner


  • Carcasses dropped from players now last four times longer



Balance Adjustments velociraptor
  • Increased velociraptor sprint turn rate from 135°/s to 180°/s
  • Increased velociraptor walk turn rate from 200°/s to 235°/s
  • Increased velociraptor air turn turn rate from 180°/s to 290°/s
  • Velo can now sniff while climbing


Pachycephalosaurus
  • Increased Pachycephalosaurus eating hitbox size
  • Lowered pachy footstep by 65%
  • Lowered pachy sleep sound by 70%
  • Pachycephalosaurus can now eat a wider variety of ferns on Ancestral Plains



Optimization
  • Made Player count sorting code significantly faster
  • Optimized how player activity is relied to the server, removing weight from the server.


Map Work
  • Miscellaneous works and fixes on DM_Caldera and Ancestral Plains.


Bug Fixes general
  • Fixed: Camera not working properly the first time you log in on a server.
  • Fixed: Player getting stuck after failing to connect to a server
  • Fixed: The double error that a user will get if they fail to load into a server, the second error causing the game to jam and require alt f4.
  • Fixed: Players who have 3 or more points in Weather Resistance are now immune to lightning strike
  • Fixed: Performing an attack now restarts your logout timer
  • Fixed: Creatures now spawn on the ground, rather than dropping from above the ground and falling on the dinosaur selection screen
  • Fixed: The calculation of shelter state no longer behaves poorly for certain animals or growth sizes
  • Fixed: Default keybinds should now properly be WSAD.
  • Fixed: The camera no longer goes lower when you move through foliage
  • Fixed: Pteranodon should no longer fail to spawn and attach to the camera properly while in the dino selection screen under certain circumstances
  • Fixed: Rocks and other terrain objects now properly apply shelter
  • Fixed: An unfinished area of Ancestral Plains was being accessed by a teleporter by accident
  • Fixed: Rare server side crash when using the stuck command


creatures
  • Fixed: Simulated Pawn (A player seeing an other) falling bug with Velociraptor.
  • Fixed: Occasional state jamming as velociraptor after climbing
  • Fixed: A remote velociraptor that was first met climbing and found on ground after re
  • entering net
  • relevance no longer appears in the climbing stance on other clients and shows as walking properly.
  • Fixed: A remote raptor will not be stuck in the walking stance while walking if found climbing while entering net relevance range.
  • Fixed: You need to be in the air and above ground as velociraptor in order to begin climbing.
  • Fixed: Taking off while holding the use key no longer allows a player to grab other players while in flight
  • Fixed: Pressing the use key while stomping no longer causes a state jam, preventing the player from being able to move
  • Fixed: Pteranodons now spawn properly at all spawn points, rather than entering flight mode and hovering
  • Fixed: Shelter state now behaves properly while in flight or while swimming
  • Fixed: Pressing the use keybind and holding it while playing a vocal or attack animation no longer causes a state jam
  • Fixed: The Stoic talent no longer significantly increases the amount of knockback you receive from Pachy charge, and now properly mitigates it


UI
  • Fixed: Server list properly sorts the server by player count by default, and all servers are properly listed on it.
  • Fixed: The server list no longer occasionally not shows servers when using "Sort by player count", allowing all servers to be seen properly, but sorted from most populated to less populated.
  • Fixed: Servers having the same player count as others not showing up on the player list.
  • Fixed: typo with the "Version Mismatch" error window.
  • Fixed: The "Quit Game" button now works properly.
  • Fixed: Creature Selection camera now works properly
  • Fixed: Various UI issues associated with the main menu. Kick / Ban reason should now properly show.


creature skins
  • Fixed: bad Dino customization UI behavior such as lower buttons now showing properly on screen, or changing colors for a creature not applying on the animal.
  • Fixed: Issues with customization such as skin never applying after having been selected the second time or not loading properly.
  • Fixed: Skin should no longer occasionally disappear after opening the character menu.
  • Fixed: acro eyes coloring solid on a few skins.

Mechanics Changes

+Replaced GlobalCarcassSpawnRateModifier && GlobalCarcassSizeModifier with CarcassSpawnRatio
- This config variable ranges from 0.0 to 2.0, and describes the carcass spawning behavior.
-A value close or equal to 0.0f will make carcasses spawn large, but rarely.
-A vakye close or equal to 2.0f will make carcasses spawn often, but be small in size.
-A value of 1.0f is a balanced spawn rate and size.
-The setting can be any value between 0.0f and 2.0f. Any value smaller or bigger than that will be clamped.
+Removed the Velociraptor run sound
+Beached aquatics now align with terrain while stationary
+Adjused Pteranodon head tracking such that it no longer twists its neck oddly while in flight while breaking, and cannot turn its head while flying very quickly
+You can no longer apply saved talent builds if you already have invested talent points
+Added a new debuff to signify when an aquatic creature is out of air, which replaces them showing up as 'Thirsty'
+Inheriting a -1 in Scavenger no longer causes the player to receive food poisoning from fresh carcasses
+Optimized how movement from climbing is replicated to other clients.
+Crouching no longer reduces gravity's influence by 33%
+Added a prompt to inform players they cannot switch their skin if too large
+Re-implemented the mouse sensitivity settings, handle crouch toggle, and mouse/controller Y inversion.
+Lowered velo footsteps by 50%
+Lowered velo sprint cues by 90%
+Creatures will no longer breath obnoxiously quick when moving fast.
+PC controller settings are now saved in the config, instead of a separate save game.

Graphical Changes

+Adjusted velociraptor's body shader to not be as responsive to light.
Ancestral Plains:
-Modified lighting to not burn the creatures shaders anymore
-Reworked all water types
-Modified fog behavior
-Edited Pteranodon Mountain
-Made the waterfall river a little deeper.
-There should no longer be any transparent rocks or unfinished seams.
-Expanded the cave network in Pteranodon Mountain
-Post Processing Settings on Ancestral Plains.
Caldera:
Finished the crystal cave.
Prettied up the caves
Added a tunnel that connects into the open ocean.
Added a portal on the bridge that leads to a lava arena.

Balance Adjustments

+Reduced Pteranodon's ground turn rate by 33%
+Lurdusaurus' growth rate has been increased by 33%
+All fall damage thresholds have been adjusted.

Bug Fixes

+Fixed: Tracker rex should now be able to switch from feathers to scales
+Added proper network error handling for users to clearly know why they were unable to join a server.
+Fixed: Krono lunge distance no longer depends on the player's fps
+Altered velo jump sound such that it doesn't sound odd at the start
+Fixed: Para can no longer alarm call eggs
+Fixed: Ptera can no longer move its head after death
+Fixed: Keybinds window should no longer ocasionally act weird or the action bindings go visually missing uppon applying the keys.
+Fixed: Mosasaurus can no longer bury itself into the terrain
+Fixed: Creatures who are picked up while laying or sitting can now bite, and creatures who are picked up while laying can now play vocal calls
+Fixed: Velociraptor now lies smoothly against terrain while sleeping
